Our room wasn't large but quite big enough for our short stay. The bed was very comfortable, the shower worked well, the breakfasts were varied, freshly cooked, and/or lovely healthy fruit salads, and very good value. The staff were friendly too, and catered to my wife's wheat and dairy allergies. Finally, if you get room no. 10 you can sit out on your own verandah enjoying the evening sun !

A word of warning about parking; there is some but if you're a cautious driver or have too big a car you'll find this a challenge. But parking this close to the centre is a bonus anyway. To be fair, the hotel does advertise this but SUVs and similar are a nuisance to other guests as they can spill over into adjacent parking spaces.

This was a very pleasant guest-house, very close to the train station and within walking distance of the centre (10-15 minutes up the hill). Our twin room was small but cosy and was perfectly clean and comfortable. The bathroom was fine but also small (tricky for tall people). Breakfast was superb value - I had a wonderful vegan breakfast (gluten-free options also available). It was useful to find free-parking near the city centre. All staff were helpful and informative.

Room was small but not unusually so for an older building. No parking was available on one day, so I had to park some distance away - staff were helpful in directing me however.

The first impression was the efficiency of the Management. We arrived late having travelled down after work. The hotel parking was full at the rear of the building but before I had chance to be concerned, I was handed a ‘residential parking permit’ and a map detailing where we could park up. As it happened a space was available just across the road. The family room accommodated the 4 of us well and contained all the usual facilities. In the morning the lady took our order promptly with a smile. I’m fussy about eggs, but they arrived as I’d requested. Another lady popped around to check we were happy with our food. The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere and this was reflected in the bubbly mood of the guests near us in the dining room at breakfast.

I can’t really find any major faults. Possibly some hot chocolate sachets with the tea & coffee tray in the room?

The staff went beyond what we would have ever expected to make us happy and comfortable. It was pouring outside and Magdalena learned that taxis were unavailable. She called her husband and he came to take my family and I to our daughter’s university with all of her suitcases. You do not find this sort of hospitality anywhere in today’s world. We are so appreciative of their kindness. The breakfast is filling, fresh and delicious.

We have stayed here two different times and we will continue to choose The Telstar as it is in a great location, with wonderful rooms and staff.

This lovely guest house is located perfect for Exeter St David's train station and the University. It's well cared for, breakfast (cooked to order from a small menu) is friendly and efficient and everything worked. They sell local beers at reception. My room even had a vinyl player and a few records, and a fabulous view over the Devon hills with a place to sit outside with table and chairs.

Don't expect a hotel e.g. reception is not 24 hours, bed is Double not Super King, no mini fridge or ironing board in the room. The (good enough) wifi is a series of similarly named hotspots you have to change between yourself, rather than a mesh 😅

The bed was super comfortable Breakfast was fabulous and great value for money Close to city centre and some great restaurants Room was a good size Excellent selection of teas and coffee, sadly no decaff Staff member at breakfast was friendly and helpful

No glasses for water in the room Cheap blinds let in lots of light from the street light outside, could do with blackout curtains, also not easy to pull blinds, had to climb on the single bed to reach them No decaf tea or coffee Light pull in the bathroom could do with being charged, it's an old style wooden one that is very grubby and probably harbouring all sorts of germs. Lastly and a reason I would not stay again, on the day I leave any establishment I always strip the bedding and I was horrified to find a filthy dirty duvet inside the cover, it was off colour and covered in stains, this has really put me off returning

Beds were very comfortable which is what we needed. And the added bonus of a fan was great. The breakfast selection was fantastic - everything you need and more !!! As parking was not available ( we arrived very early before check in ) we were provided with a free parking permit to park in surrounding area

The bathroom - very dated and a challenge to get into the shower as part of the bath - set into the wall, however the shower was great !!! The room itself needs a spruce up as dated but served our purpose and had a great night sleep

the hotel was really lovely and cute, it was so well kept and decorated in the room we had everything we needed, the free parking was so useful and definitely a massive factor in why we chose to stay at the hotel, checking in was really quick and easy, all the staff were super welcoming and helpful, location was amazing.

the price was a little expensive however compared to the other hotels it was a fairly reasonable price, the room was quite cold at night and we couldn’t work out how to turn the heating up and their were some hairs in the bathtub that weren’t ours but other than that we really enjoyed our stay

staff were very helpful in providing bespoke breakfast. Location equidistant from St David's and Central station. Some people might like more central, but really only 10 minutes from centre and 20 minutes from Quay. Staff were helpful at every juncture. We were lucky enough to have our own little outside space.

My mattress was a bit soft, so after 3 nights I am left with a little back ache.

Well what can I say about this little gem of a place. 10mins walk to the city centre, parking wasn't a problem, as has onsite parking. We had room 10, with a terrace with a great view, room was clean, warm, and sized perfectly for a couple. There was a few stairs to climb to get to it, so not really for wheelchair access. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, we plumped for the full English, and was lovely and filling. No faults at all. Definitely go again..
