Friendly staff - check in was easy.

I had originally thought about parking in front of the Hotel as there were a number of bays available, However the sight of so many youngsters sitting on the wall of the pub opposite the hotel that were clearly high on life so I decided to move to the car park at the rear of the building. The pub opposite may have had a students night (Monday night) but it was a little noisy which I could hear from my room on the 4th floor. Despite the pub being located on the opposite side of the road to the hotel I could hear people shouting and screaming at kicking out time which is something you do not generally expect on a Monday night. Also Overnight parking had to be paid for.

An excellent location; a short walk from both the cathedral and the recently redeveloped quay area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and the one evening meal we had in the bar was great value for money.

Our room overlooked a cul de sac which was probably very quiet a few years ago. However, a footpath and cycle route runs from the cul-de-sac to the newly redeveloped quay area. In the evenings this becomes very noisy with inebriated people shouting loudly as they make their way between the city centre and the quay. The windows to the rooms are single-glazed aluminium framed sliding panes and do little to dampen the sound. On one day there was also a collection of the bins at around 04:00.

Very comfortable rooms, whilst this hotel is a little dated it does not take away from the experience, everything worked fine and we had everything we needed. The bathroom was a very good size and had a shower over a bath. Lamps with light switches at the bedside (perfect) and plentiful plug sockets. The staff were very friendly and helpful, parking in their private carpark for £5 was an absolute steal, as parking in Exeter can be pricey. Perfect location, right by the cathedral, and the pub itself is a lovely place with a lot of character. There was tea coffee and biscuits in the room, and a big pile of towels. We only stayed one night but wish I could've stayed longer, such good value.

Only negative thing was there was a little bit of noise from people shouting on the street at night, as the window was thin, but I got back to sleep straight away.

Friendly receptionist.. very welcoming. Lovely staff and a great location. Great value hotel and parking fee. Lovely breakfast. Perfectly satisfactory room which was nice and clean. An historic and quirky building.. very quaint. A couple of small negatives, but overall, I would definitely return, and recommend this as nice, friendly, well located and great value for money.

Only slight negatives, we were a bit disappointed with the evening meal food which had to be sent back to be put right, and speed of service was a bit slow when it didnt seem to be very busy. Also it was exceptionally warm weather, so no aircon made a good night's sleep difficult with just a fan.

This is a very old and interesting building located within Exeter city centre. The location is ideal for exploring the attractions of Exeter. The staff are amazing delivering excellent customer service and going out of their way to make you feel welcome.Such kind and caring people. The team who clean the bedrooms work to a very high standard everything is immaculate my bathroom was spotless.I saw staff members hoovering and cleaning throughout my stay.

Some areas of the building are in desperate need of updating and there is much evidence of “wear and tear” throughout the building. This is by no way the fault of the current manager and her team. The company who own the hotel “Marstons” need to invest money into a refurbishment plan starting with basic touch ups of paintwork and replacing old and dated blinds and curtains. This lovely historic place can then be be of equal standard to other alternative accommodation in the city of which there is plenty.

I was visiting as I had a medical proceedure on the morning after my stay at the Hotel, but it is also an excellent place to stay if you are visiting students at the University. The building is very old and quirky, and the rooms are well used, but spotlessly clean, with very white sheets and towels. The staff are friendly and helpful, while the typical pub food is substantial and reasonably priced. If you are arriving by train use Exeter Central station which is nearby. Exeter St,.David's Station is a good 20 minute walk, much up a steep hill, so not recommended. The City's shopping district is close by, and is excellent

This is a budget hotel, so cannot criticise anything.

Stayed here last year and as good as I remembered. Best value for money on our UK trip although I think Saturday night is more expensive. Very old pub full of character and charm with lots of nooks and crannies. Accommodation at rear is modern with bright spacious rooms with all usual amenities. Able to book room only which I like after having too many full English breakfasts. Car parking is available I think but not sure as we have always come by public transport. Plan to stay next year again.

Only one night again on our way to Bristol airport. Would like at least two or three days. Hopefully next year.

Mainly, it's proximity to the event I was attending, and it provided parking for a small fee up until 14:00hrs the following day. As far as the venue was concerned, it afforded me a comfortable, warm room. Single cast iron bed, ensuite bathroom with overhead shower. None of the fripperie of modern hotels, which I rarely use but soap and shower gel, and a hairdryer. It also provided sufficient tea and coffee for one person, and it was spotlessly clean. My room was in the old part of the building, which could be accessed by stairs and steps via a shorter route or by lift involving traversing hallways and lots of steps. The building is ancient. One has to appreciate that it carries the scars of its age. So if you're looking for pristine decor you will be disappointed. Fellow guests were extremely quiet, and the whole setting was quite peaceful. Dinner could be purchased in the adjoining bar. The service was prompt, and I enjoyed my meal. A range of breakfast options were available for an additional fee provided within the hotel.

The room was homely and comfortable. The bed was comfy and the linens were nice quality. We loved the historic nature of the inn and the beautiful beer garden downstairs. The bathroom had a nice bath. The price was good compared to other options in the area, and we heard it was haunted!! But this just made us more intrigued to stay... : Sadly we didn’t hear or see anything uninstall ;) We would stay again.

The room wasnt dirty at all but also not as clean as other hotels, with grime in the bathroom. However we would still happily stay again.

Gemma, on reception was great - really friendly and all the staff were great too. The location is ideal, just a short walk up the hill to the Cathedral square. The parking was really simple too as it was £5 per 24 hours and covered by CCTV, so once they had your reg. and you had paid, you could come and go, no problem.

Breakfast was OK but I've had better - there was a great selection. All three mornings, there were no Avocados available. I kept asking for the bacon to be crispy, but no, it was just about cooked with not much flavour.
