It is a beautiful house, full of character, furnished comfortably and decorated sympathetically. We only met Sam and he was extremely efficient, very friendly, a very good host. The location is superb and the gardens are incredibly attractive and well maintained. If you are looking for hygge in England, go to Weeke Barton. Bucolic peaceful warm. The breakfast was spot on. Quality ingredients well prepared.

We are becoming old crocs and the spiral staircase and slight undulations and steps necessary in an old building made it a little tricky for us going upstairs and to the bathroom. We would be more careful choosing the room another time. The restaurant isnt always open and it wasn’t clear on the booking site. We ate at a local pub and it was a disappointment.

The ambiance at Weeke Barton is lovely and very relaxing. The hotel is very stylish with a mix of contemporary and antique furnishings and is very welcoming. Although the hotel doesn't serve evening meal every evening they were most accomodating when we arrived at 5.30pm and arranged some home-made muesli and yoghurt for us, which was very filling. The hosts are friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about the local area. I've stayed several times when visiting my daughter at Exeter University and think this is the most charming place to stay in the area.

I would prefer to have the option of dining in the hotel in the evening which is why I gave a score of 9 rather than 10 but I do realise that with a hotel of this type and size that that is not necessarily practical. However if you're happy to eat out then I would highly recommend staying at Weeke Barton.

Jo and Sam are as friendly as you could wish, with lots of local knowledge and recommendations, while never being overly attentive. Breakfast was great: as large a portion as you wanted, with fresh ingredients all ready and waiting at your table when you come down, filling us nicely until the evening. The building is tastefully decorated - a perfect balance of modern and country character - with lovely vast grounds overlooking picturesque views. Beds were comfy with super soft linen, while the bathrooms had lovely toiletries, big towels and even down to thoughtful touches of cotton wool and cotton swabs provided. The whole experience was just so relaxing, the place so nice, the owners so warm, it must be called the Weeke Barton because you’ll wish you were staying at least another week longer.

There aren’t keys for the rooms as they only lock from the inside, so a safe would give a bit of reassurance over valuables.

The grounds in which the building is located are very well kept with amazing views, on arrival at 9pm we were greeted at the end of the lit path, by Sam the host of the guesthouse, invited in & given a guided tour whilst, unusually relaxing reggae music played throughout the building, a huge open fire where guests had their walking boots drying on the harth. An honesty bar provided a small selection of beers/spirits, which included a wide range of DVD's to loan, "a bit like going to Blockbuster"! As we had booked to come here for our honeymoon, communication between ourselves & Jo regards to the additional 'honeymoon treat' was provided as requested with homemade banana bread & smoothie with blueberries, artificial petals on the bed & note ld asked for 'from your wife" at an additional cost. Dinner during our stay was being served on the Thursday, which we ordered in advance. Dog friendly, we met a few lovely couples at breakfast in the morning. We stayed in the room called Orla, which had a free standing bath mounted on a wooden platform. 3 windows allowed views all round on waking in the morning. Breakfast was ordered by way of text messaging, and served to everyone at their allocated tables between 9-10am with tea/coffee/fresh devonshire apple juice, vegan/vegetarian or carnivore cooked breakfast & house granola with yogurt on offer. Good quality, locally sourced, homemade food was provided & cooked personally by Sam on the one evening, so we ate elsewhere on the other nights at the Bridford lnn, a 7 min drive away & very nice too. Staff were very helpful, suggesting where there was locally to visit. All in all, a very relaxed atmosphere worth the 4 & a half hour journey to revisit sometime in the future. Our outings included a visit to the Eden Project, Drogo Castle & Llama Trekking,

Due to the age of the old building, a couple of 'blips' regards to heating, which when reported to Sam, were imme diately rectified. Our 1st night, we had the windows open & we were woken in the night by owls & geese in the neighbouring farm. The communal toilet was out of use, probably due to covid.

Stunning location, perfect welcome, great atmosphere, seriously comfortable beds, amazing breakfast (which was so good we had planned to leave at the crack of dawn on the sunday but hung around just so we could experience breakfast again) and the cleanest accommodation I think I've ever stayed in, everywhere was pristine. Will definitely book again and highly recommend!

Nothing - it went way beyond our expectations!

A beautiful little boutique hotel in an excellent location between Dartmoor national park and Exeter. We slept very well in a comfortable bed with very soft sheets and had a delicious breakfast each morning. Jo and Sam were friendly and helpful hosts with lots of personal recommendations.

Beautiful place. Very peaceful. Breakfast was great. Honesty bar was a nice touch

A little bit too detached from everywhere and if the restaurant wasn’t open, it’s a half hour drive to the nearest shop with no fridge facilities so food wasn’t likely to last for too long. We were aware of this though so this was bad planning on our part
