Hotel is in a great location, a 5/10 minute walk directly south from Queen Street station. Upon arrival I was greeted by the most helpful receptionist that entertained conversation for a while, one of the friendliest people I've met! The room I stayed in was huge, the bed was extremely comfortable and the shower facilities were great. Very quiet room despite facing the street at ground level. As a female travelling for work on my own I can be nervous staying somewhere new, but the security of the gate (you have to buzz in after 9pm) and the reassurance of the receptionist made me feel welcome and safe throughout my stay. Overall a great place to stay, and the cheapest stay i could find in glasgow! can't wait to visit and book again!

The location is excellent, within walking distance of major train stations, restaurants, bars, entertainment, busses etc. As a solo female guest I wanted somewhere I could comfortably walk to of an evening, minimising the need for cab journeys and long walks alone. The Merchant City Inn was perfect for this, less than a minute's walk form Argyle Street (high street) and less than five minutes from Glasgow Central station. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I felt comfortable knowing they were there to help. The decor in the reception and public areas is not amazing, but the room itself was clean, comfortable cosy and warm despite the snow! Good shower, good TV, and most importantly...good WiFi! Thank you for a great stay, especially to the reception staff and night porter. I'll be sure to return.

At first viewing, I thought the room was a little smaller than expected, and the view was not great. However, this in no way impacted my stay. When I returned in the evenings, the room was warm and welcoming. There is a strange request that guests leave their keys (real keys, not cards) at reception before leaving the premises. I overheard some guests who were unhappy about this. But! It meant I was not worried about losing the key. It took all of 10 seconds to pick up or drop off the key. And when I got to my door, I wasn't rooting around in my big bag for it because it was in my hand! Reception is manned 24 hours, so never a problem.

The hotel is basic in that it doesn't have a bar or lounge area etc, just a front desk, but the room was very clean, comfortable and spacious, and it was nice and quiet for the most part too. Lovely deep bath and good powerful shower with plenty hot water for washing my hair, so I was very happy. Felt safe and secure, with a proper key to lock the door rather than a keycard TV worked fine and the bed was very comfy

The rooms are up a narrow, carpeted stone spiral staircase, which I did like as it shows the character of the building, but obviously isn't super accessible for people with mobility issues - I didn't notice a lift, but there's may have been one.

Clean, tidy room, ideal in heart of merchant city at a great price for going out for a music gig at O2. Very friendly hotel staff, easy check in and great early check in times too. Room was modern furnished and neutrally decorated.

We overlooked the main street and when nightclub shut at 0400hrs noise of the revellers woke my wife, I slept like a log. We did have the window open for fresh air during night but this is hardly the fault of the hotel. We saw reviews about the noise from other previous guests but other than that a great place to stay for a night in the town to party!!!

The hotel does not offer meals or other facilities but it is so well positioned that they would be unnecessary. The hotel is close to restaurants, bars and shops and minutes away from transport includng Queen Street Station. Breakfast can be found at numerous cafes and there is parking close by. I received notification in advance of where I could park if I needed to. The room had tea/coffee and a comfortable bed and TV - all that's needed in a large City like Glasgow which has everything else. The staff were friendly and helpful. Despite being in the centre of Glasgow, the room I had was not noisy as the hotel is in a back street.

There is a weird (to me) contraption for keeping the sash windows open so worth checking with reception if you can't work it out. It's obvious when you know how and the staff very patient in explaining it!

The Merchant City Inn is the perfect location for your budget traveller. It is 200 m from St George square where you find restaurants, the hop on hop off city bus, it is 750 m approx from Queen's Station. The reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful. you even get a discount voucher for the hop on hop off bus tour.

Although I am extremely adventurous and independent, I would have like an offer for help to carry my rather heavy suitcase up the stairs. We in South Africa have porters at all our hotels.

Very central location, cool building, and our room was pleasant. Our room was ready for check-in early, and after check-out they let us leave our bags in the reception area to collect later.

Other reviews mentioned the noise from the nearby nightclub, which we did hear, but it honestly wasn’t bad at all and didn’t impede our sleep. Leaving the room key at the reception each time we went out was annoying; on one occasion we waited 10 minutes for a member of staff to appear after returning in the evening. We forgot to lock our door in the night and a cleaner (?) opened the door on us in the morning, but this was our fault more than a complaint about the property!

quaint property brill location everything on its door step. very clean and spacious room and bathroom. tea / coffee supplied and more on request. allowed to leave our bags before and after check in /out. very friendly helpful staff. comfy beds. thin duvet but very warm. value for money. 5 min walk from main shops / George square. 24 hr secure. shower powerful and hot.

bedroom a bit cool on entry. noisy club across the road but still slept well. would benefit from food dispenser or a bar for late nibbles and drinks. as no breakfast/ meals served.

Location of property is excellent right in the city centre. Room was very spacious. Free WiFi access. Mugs for drinks in room which was an excellent bonus as most places have those tiny cups. You could come and go as you please.

We were on top floor and it was spiral staircase. I’m a bit unfit my fault so struggled a bit with stairs. Would suggest if you have difficulties request a lower room. Due to being an old building no double glazing so was noisy at times but your right in city centre so would expect a bit of noise.

The people who worked at the Inn were all very nice and welcoming. The room was small, but cozy - it had a nice wooden floor and furniture and it was very clean. The same goes for the bathroom. There was also a kettle, tea, and coffee in the room, which was quite nice.

Breakfast is not an option. There is no elevator. The room door does not lock automatically when you exit, so you always have to remember to lock it.
