Food - breakfasts and evening meals as usual good though there was some inconsistency in flavours, presentation and portion size from one day to the next --- maybe different chefs? --- maybe availability of supplies? All staff were friendly, polite and helpful.

If a meal is meant to be served with a salad dressing and that particular dressing is not available surely the customer could be informed and not served the salad with no dressing at all and then after a request for some sort of accompaniment to send the poor waiting staff with a pot of not very nice vegetable oil. Having to fold up the unneeded extra bed in the family room.

The pub itself was gorgeous, low ceilings and dark wood boards framing the walls and roof. Bar tucked inside, very charming, we sat in the beer garden soaking up the sun, very relaxing. Our bedroom was large with ample space high ceilings with wooden framing, very lovely. The bathroom was big with proper shower. Recommend.

On arrival the manager greeted us and took care of our booking she was very helpful and friendly, however when she left for the day the staff working into the evening were inexperienced and slow on service, two of them a young girl with brown hair and a young guy with purple hair sat near us in the bar dining area on a break, they were talking about the staff discounts they can get on drinks and food, and shifts they expected to work, sitting in an area that should be reserved for customers. It was unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable.

As a young family my wife and I were looking for a place to stay near light water Vally as we were heading up from the south , after looking at the kestrel online we took a gamble and booked. The hotel / locating and staff were second to non and the venue had a super comfortable feel. After 3 hrs in the car the kestrel staff immediately showed us our rooms and make the kids feel at ease. The staff were prompt and professional and the rooms were exceptional. They offered excellent value for money with the added bonus of great food ( and wine ) just down stairs. Many thanks after along day !! 10/10

The Kestrel is a super lovely pub, with a lovely beer garden and outlook onto some fields. The pub is very cosy and the staff (especially Francesca) were super friendly, even though they were a little short staffed and under pressure. The food was delicious and breakfast was huge! The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. All in all a great little trip apart from a few minor niggles.

The staff were a little overworked - on the Tuesday we were there, they turned away a lot of people at lunchtime (we counted about 40 people before 2pm) and wouldn't serve in the beer garden as they only had three staff on - shows how popular the pub is but they would benefit from more staff. The noise in the room from the main road outside and also the creaky floor boards of the corridors. Top tip to try and combat the busy road noise - close the window and use the fan provided - it was much quieter. The noise did not spoil our trip though - would definitely still go back as the place itself and the staff were lovely, but keep this in mind if you like a quiet room.

We were met by Keiran who made us feel very welcome. Our room was ready for check-in @3pm on arrival and was clean and tidy. We ate in the restaurant on 3 separate evenings (including NY Eve), the staff were excellent (many thanks to Gemma & Tom for looking after us) and the food was top notch with good portions and even a few cocktails, which in my opinion were very reasonably priced.

I see some people have mentioned about the creaking floorboards; yes, we did experience this but not a game-changer. I think my snoring was much more off-putting!! Only slightly annoying thing was the limited wifi in the rooms depending on your location; however, no issues in the bar/restaurant, so not a major problem really.

the facilities and decor of the room where great. the pub was very homely and welcoming. the breakfast was delicious. staff very helpful. the location was very handy as it was 5 minutes from Knaresborough

nothing to do with the property but the people who stayed next door to us was extremely loud and banging until 10:30 on the night and we could hear everything. our room was right next door to the door that leads to the pub so you could hear the door going a lot during our stay with people coming and going from the pub downstairs. the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable also

We were warmly welcomed with friendliness into the cosy pub space. Checked in and left our luggage before rushing off to a 1pm wedding. Arrived back via the back door and key fob - cosy comfortable room with clean spacious shower. Breakfast was delicious with refill coffee, tea and juice. We stayed in December and came down for breakfast to be seated at a table by a gorgeous open fire. It really was so wonderful - exceeded our expectations - and we will definitely stay again. Thank you!

Some other reviews mentioned creaky floorboards (because it’s an old building) which is true - we didn’t have any issues with sound/thin walls as we arrived home late in the evening once everyone else was asleep!

We have stayed at The Kestrel, on numerous occasions and keep returning as it’s such a gorgeous accommodation. Rooms spacious and tastefully decorated. The food both for an evening meal or the great selection of breakfast is beautiful. In all the accommodation is amazing value for money and we will be back again at some point.

As the rooms are above a working restaurant/pub, there can be noise that comes from that downstairs area, but as most people have eaten by 9ish it does goes quiet in time for you to relax before sleeping.

Lovely hotel, nice spacious room with great facilities. The staff were really friendly, especially the lady who checked us in and the staff at breakfast, which incidentally was great. I needed an iron and a male member of staff carried the ironing board and iron upstairs to us.

Our evening meal was not great. I had sirloin steak which was really tough. My husband had fish, which was dry and we could’ve bought better from Aldi. The price of my husbands ice cream was knocked off the bill.

The accommodation met all our expectations and is exactly as listed in the advert. I'd add that the Lodge is cosy and very nicely set out. The bar adjoins the dining area and has a good selection of continental beers and ales on tap. The rooms are additionally secured via an electronic fob as well as personal room keys. The Lodge is well positioned for the York road, as well as a short drive into Harrogate itself. I felt very safe and well looked after by the staff who were consistently friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out. Plenty of spaces in the private car park.

Just the toilet set in the ensuite shower room needs fixing. Nothing else to fault.
