The Gatwick White House Hotel

We had to book a room in a hurry due to an overnight delay on our flight from Gatwick Airport, and the staff here were very helpful and welcoming even at 23:00 when we arrived. The room was very clean, the bathroom specially (out room had a private bathroom, but I think some other rooms don't, and then have to make use of the communal bathroom, which I didn't see). The staff was great, and the breakfast was good and cheap! The only problem was with the bed, which was not comfortable at all due to the mattress being very old, and I had some trouble falling sleep. Apart from that, I would recommend this.

Clean comfy little room for one. Walkable from the Horley train station if you don't have heavy bags. Easy walk to the High Street with pubs n shops, Waitrose & Aldi. Good Continental breakfast. Good reliable shuttle to the airport...not free...but cheaper than a taxi and more convenient...one of the main reasons I booked in at GWH.

Under construction for needed refurbishment...will be lovely when done...a bit offputting when you walk into the reception/dining area where they are currently working, but my room had already been refurbished so in the end all was well. No mini fridge in room.

Very good continental breakfast. Staff helpful, pleasant and friendly. Good location for Horley High Street and Gatwick. Good courier service. Building being refurbished ie reception and access to breakfast room. A work in progress. Obviously trying to improve things for their customers. Liked the outdoor area at the front. Glad given a ground floor room.

We found the 4'6" bed too small. We are tall people. The lounge area was not very inviting. The breakfast room was a bit stark. Could do with some soft music to make more appealing. Or a TV. And some pictures on the wall. The floor looked as if it needed cleaning/freshening. Although better set out than last time the breakfast bar was like a puzzle trying to find things

The bed was about the most comfortable of any that I have slept in in any hotel. Wow. The manager was very kind to change my room when I requested a bath tub rather than a shower. The shuttle service to and from Gatwick airport worked perfectly for me. I was not aware that the temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is so close to this airport and hotel. I included a photo of that temple from my visit. An easy taxi ride got me there and back.

There is remodeling going on this month. I don't mind very much. The rubbish was taken away quickly, and there wasn't too much noise. I could see that many things had been moved aside to make room for the work, but it was easy to walk through the common areas and get to the rooms. I can't wait to see how things look after the renovations.

The price was excellent and good value (although I may have been lucky as on a subsequent visit to Gatwick the price was much higher). It is possible to walk from the airport (I was lucky to find the section of the Sussex Border Path that will get you from North Terminal to the Travelodge and from there you are on pavements). There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Horley which is not too far away.

The room was tired although the ensuite was not too bad. The overall feel of the hotel is of somewhere that is run down with the dining room looking uninviting and the carpets thin and worn. I would recommend it to a friend who I knew well and to whom I could explain the shortcomings but would not recommend it to people who are sensitive. My room wasn't really ready for me with towels and toilet paper being delivered after I arrived.

We found it easy access from the airport to the hotel, we were welcome pretty well, the room was clean and cozy but what made our stay so much more special was Vishal's reception, he's unbelievably kind and good-hearted. My tip is, have your meals at the canteen, there makes it possible to interact with other guests and make friends from all over the world. I can barely put into words how grateful we are for this magical experience ! Big shout to my new mate Vishal, you're the man 🙏

Not being able to stay longer

The room was what I expected for a fairly budget price. It was clean and had everything needed, except a USB port to charge my phone. The bathroom was functional but the shower head clamp was broken and I couldn't use the shower as it was meant to be used.

I was very frustrated by the fact that the hotel offered an airport shuttle, but they were unable to provide me with transport from the airport. I had to organise my own taxi to the hotel. The manager did organise me a taxi from the hotel back to the airport the next morning, but the price was much more in each case than I had been told.

I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions, it is consistently very good and is so handily placed for the airport, Horley train station and Horley town centre, where there are several nice pubs and restaurants, not to mention Ye Old Six Belles, which is at the very end of Old Church Lane, where the hotel is situated. I even use this hotel when I am flying from other London airports as the train links to them are very good. I also stay in this hotel when I visit Brighton as Horley is on the Brighton mainline. This time I actually walked from Gatwick South Terminal to the hotel, it is about 3km and is an interesting walk around the terminal and then through a park.

Nothing not to like

The rooms was were freshly renovated, and had a large window. The room, bed and bathroom were clean and well organized. The bed was very comfortable. There is a new Indian restaurant which has limited hours and selection, but the food was delicious - the naans were soft and the curry tasted right.

It is about two hours with train from Heathrow airport by train, so I to move to another hotel closer to the London Heathrow Airport as I had an early connecting flight.

The location is ideal for Gatwick airport. Just a slight problem finding the hotel, as the road layout is odd. Plenty of parking available and left our car here for five days with no problems. Taxi to airport worked well, we were outside the shuttle hours but used this on the way back to collect our car and it worked perfectly. Room ok for an overnight. No meals taken but the bar was available, with limited offerings. Overall, fine for this type of overnight and the backup organisation worked very well.

No problems, apart from a request for a room key which had been returned before we left. This was accepted as true and a suggested charge of £17.50 was dismissed.
