The hotel is in a stunning old building, with beautiful old antiques throughout. Breakfast was excellent- great selection and brilliant service. Dining room (more like a banquet hall) is beautiful! Great friendly service throughout. Very helpful, caring staff. Location is amazing, car park is impressive for the centre of a town and lots of room to park. We also loved the pool and ability to reserve a slot. The room is quiet and we slept very well indeed. Bathroom very well equipped and lovely shower.

Room could have been a little bit cleaner in some places. Booking.com didn’t tell us that the parking fee was extra (£10 per night).

From our window was stunning view of Lyme Regis roofscape and the bay beyond- it was made better by the small balcony and outside furniture. Shame the weather didn't allow for much sitting outside!! Breakfast was part buffet and waitress service with good selection of items as well as cooked to order. On site parking in centre of Lyme was a bonus (£10 daily) it's an impossible place to park and difficult to navigate the old twisty streets by car.

A couple of grab rails in the bath/shower would have felt safer. As this is an historic building carrying luggage up and down stairs was hard going- there didn't appear to have even a service lift.

Amazing location, staff couldn't do more to help, and the pool which you could book (free) and have for yourself for that time was an added bonus that we didn't realise we wanted until we were there. The food was lovely, there was a decent sized carpark, and it was nice and clean throughout. The food was good on both occasions we ate in there for dinner and breakfast had a very good selection to suit all. All the staff, from those meeting and greeting to those servicing the rooms, were all really lovely. Apart from a couple of tiny issues (detailed), I would recommend this place for all of the reasons above.

The mattress wasn't for us, comfortwise, and the original windows didn't keep out the noise of a night which was surprisingly fluid for such a small little town street. However, we know that the mattress is a preference thing and might be fine for others, and that it would be a shame to change the beautiful sash windows.

We were upgraded unexpectedly so had a large room and a patio area which was lovely, breakfast was big and beautiful!, pool was fabulous bonus to the stay and booking it just for us was wonderful. Bathroom provisions were great.

Jacuzzi chemicals were quite strong and took our breath away, no windows or ventilation from what we could see in the pool area, given a pool towel but had to leave it at the pool, would've been easier to use it to get back to room save taking extra, a water machine in the pool area would have been nice and vital I think, asked for more tea etc and got loads but just 4 milk pots each time which went nowhere with us.

Superb location, and our room with the large bay window with comfy chairs to sit and watch the world go by and the sea as a background was rather special. Could not believe the 'tardis' like qualities of the hotel. Beautiful breakfast room, the pool to ourselves, lovely evening dining, and being able to just leave the car safely the entire 3 days in the private car park.

Honestly nothing could have made our trip more enjoyable. We arrived early but were able to go into the private car park and wander the town until our room was ready. This, in Lyme, is a luxury in itself as parking as a rule is very difficult to find, especially during a weekend in August.

Breakfast was all fine and the location was great, very close to the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

At Breakfast on both mornings, we were not asked if we wanted any toast at all and a second pot of tea/ coffee, it was almost like it was not part of the Breakfast. Although the Hotel was comfortable and we enjoyed our stay, there are areas of corridors and stair carpets badly stained which could do with generally updating on the third floor and also the entrance areas to our room and the bathroom needed redecorating where luggage and fingerprints had marked the walls.

It was a beautiful old coaching inn with creaky floorboards and quirky corners and lots of character. The staff were very welcoming. The waiting staff at breakfast and in the restaurant were excellent. The food was plentiful. The meals in the restaurant on our first evening were excellent, the salmon and the lamb. I used the pool and had it to myself...what a treat! We booked a superior room which was very comfortable with a lovely view over the rooftops to the sea.

The receptionist as we left was not as cheerful as everyone else. Perhaps a stressful morning. Also the meals on the second evening did not live up to the first evening. Mediocre rather than excellent. (The coq au vin).

This was a birthday break for Mum (81) and me (60) with my two sisters. We had two twin rooms on the first floor, which were very comfortable. It was a very hot week, so we were glad of the fans in the rooms. Breakfast was superb, especially the vegetarian option, with plenty to choose from, and excellent sourdough toast. We booked dinner in the restaurant for our first night, and it was so delicious that we ate in the hotel the following two nights - the menu was so good. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to make us welcome, and help with any requests.

Couldn't see any difference between the superior and the standard twin rooms we had. The small area where smoking is permitted is round the back in the car park, and not comfortable or pretty - it felt like smoking behind the bins at school! A few flowers in pots would have been nice :)

Hotel is right in the heart of Lyme Regis. On arrival we received a very warm welcome at reception from Sharon and the general manager Pedro who, as it was an anniversary weekend away, upgraded our room to a superior room with a small patio and sea view. All staff were very attentive from the bar and serving staff, especially Lourdes, to cleaning staff and nothing was too much trouble. During our stay we enjoyed breakfast (everything from Full English to Avocado toast, homemade granola and Shakshuka) lunch and dinner with daily specials, all were exceptionally good. Hotel parking (small charge) and the pool with jacuzzi and sauna were an absolute bonus. There is a booking system for use of the pool which means you have it completely to yourselves. Pool area was very clean and water lovely and warm. We will definitely be returning.

The Royal Lion is an old building (C17) and has been heavily modified over time making its layout slightly quirky, but this adds to its charm. The staff throughout were friendly, helpful and something that is not seen often in hospitality, cheerful. The bedroom was a reasonable size with a comfortable bed and a reasonable sized bathroom with plenty of hot water. The room we had had a terrace with a table and chairs which was a sun trap. A reasonable sized car park was available on site. We ate in the hotel and the food generally was tasty, well cooked, and reasonable value. Portions were large, with the exception of the Dorset lamb, which although tasty, was somewhat small, in fact, had the chops been any thinner, they would have been translucent!

Although advertised, the £10 per night parking charge is a bit steep given what you're paying for the rooms. The room itself was stuffy at night, as the opening window was very small, and the terrace doors could not be left open as the terrace was shared and the wall to the adjoining car park (not the hotels) was easily scalable. The bathroom was clean, but there were patches of mould on the bath edge and base which would benefit from a deeper clean.
