The woman at the front desk when we checked in was beyond lovely. Unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was very welcoming and charming. She made us feel very safe and comfortable. The outside of the building and entrance to the hotel was beautiful and looked very enticing. It was also nice and quiet.

The bed wasn't very comfortable. The inside of the room didn't look quite as fancy as the lobby but it is quite an old building. One of our window panels was smashed and repaired with tape and let in a slight draft. Despite these issues, I would stay again if staying in the area.

The Victorian building is huge and beautiful. Out of season it was rather quiet which was really nice. The price for a double room was very reasonable. Breakfast was excellent and the staff helpful. The village of Birnam is lovely and excellent town of Dunkeld is only 10mins walk away. The walking in the countryside is excellent and varied.

The hotel is rather large and perhaps needs a bit more TLC. It must be fine in the summer but in January the communal rooms were a bit chilly, Our room was warm though, so I didn't mind too much!

Birnam Hotel is a faded grandeur hotel that has been made into a good clean reasonably priced hotel. Staff were fiendly and the facilities are fine -- excellent shower, comfortable, if slightly soft, beds, very clean throughout and pet-friendly, albeit with a small surcharge. Birnam is well located for trips in central Scotland and the hotel is opposite the rather lovely Beatrix Potter garden. I can't answer for the main meals but breakfast was good. From previous experience the attached Birnam Inn does good food.

As with most converted older hotels there was a shortage of power points in the room and the furniture is quite dark and heavy. There is no extractor fan or ventilation in the en-suite bathroom. One minor point is that the room we were in was a twin room but there was only one chair. Quibbles are minor, though, overall this was a positive experience for us.

All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the hotel itself was full of period character, on the whole in a good state of repair, and the room was comfortable and of a reasonable size. Breakfast was of excellent quality, and overall couldn't fault anything, would definitely stay here again, represents excellent value, especially when compared with similar hotels in the area. If you are going to stay here, just be aware of the fact that it was built in 1850 and as such the building can't be modernised in a lot of ways, including on the interior due to conservation orders, myself and my wife preferred the fact that it was more of an authentic older building, and it was certainly an experience riding on the lift which is probably over 100 years old :)

Had no issues with anything at all, like every hotel it has a few minor niggles, though nothing that negatively impacted on our stay, and it seems that the hotel owners are working to gradually improve and modernise the hotel where they can.

The beauty of Dunkeld near us and the Hermitage. No worries checking in and leaving. Room was clean and warm . Parking was no problems. The Hotel has character and pleasant old wooden interior. You can walk into town in 15 mins.

The evening meal in the Hotel restaurant was a sad affair. I could have made a better prawn cocktail for £ 1: 20 ! The smallest of prawns and a bit bread. The scampi main meal was no great value for money also Had heard the breakfast was good buy again nothing special. For the price shall avoid eating at the Birnam again but would stay again.

Good price. Interesting, evidently has a long history. Organised, efficient and accommodating. Generous Breakfast served quickly. Lovely warm room.

Didn’t get what we ordered for breakfast. Pretty sure the world could watch us showering through the net curtain in the bathroom at night?! What is it about shower heads not fitting properly, how can this be still be happening in the 2020’s?

We had a big bedroom with lots of space. Breakfast was excellent. Thank you to the gentleman who allowed early access to our room. Also thanks to the lady who stored our cases as we were getting a late bus home. Special mention for Dean who was very helpful with local knowledge and showed my husband around the hotel.

we would have liked a more powerful shower but that is just a minor detail

We had the family room which was very spacious and perfect for us and our two children. The hotel was very clean and the food was lovely, having read some of the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but it exceeded my expectations on all accounts, James the manager was very helpful, as was Dean in the restaurant. These guys are working long hours to serve the customers and while the hotel is a bit dated, it is clean and of a decent standard with everything you need for an overnight or two. These guys put their heart and souls into it and I get the feeling they are probably unappreciated but we were always met with a nice smile and a warm hello. We would stay here again for sure! Juts a short walk into Dunkeld and straight opposite the Beatrix Potter Gardens and exhibition, such a beautiful village!

There wasn't anything we didn't like, it would have been nice to the hotel with a bit more buzz and vibrancy, it was very quiet despite being full, but I think this has a lot to do with our current pandemic and staffing situation.

If you are looking for an exceptional place to stay - with history, charme and character - look no furher. This is it. A victorian house with all the feel and flair of that time. Spacious, high ceilings, large ball room, very inviting breakfast room, just everything for somebody looking for that kind of ambiente. We only stayed one night, but had we had more time we would have stayed longer. Room 315, 3rd floor middle front room, spacious, very comfy bed, shower over bath tub with shower screen. I searched for the unfriendly employees mentioned in other comments, but couldn't find one. Elly at the reception is ever such a lovely person, and so are all the other employees we met. The lift is from 1925 with a double manual door - as they were at that time. At the time it was luxury, and nowadays it reminds us how blessed we are. It also reminded me of my time in Vienna, Austria, where many older houses still have those lifts. Plenty of free parking space. Front door open till 11pm. Receptionist available all night. Late arrival no problem. Just a hint to finding the cheapest offer: On booking.com the price for one night was £68, but when I entered the name of the hotel in google the booking.com ad showed a price of £63. I clicked on that and landed on booking.com with the price being £63. This exercise might work for other booking.com offers as well.

The shower room was excellent. Looked new and perhaps was. The attached Birnam Inn is excellent and clearly has had money spent on it. The evening meal served in the Inn was excellent and value for money. Breakfast served in the hotel was good. Everywhere the staff were very friendly. Plenty car parking.

The public areas of the hotel are tired and need a lot of money spent on them to upgrade them, but they are kept clean and tidy.
