Cleanliness, food, room, staff (except one).

On arrival to check in at 3pm, we were met by a very disgruntled, harassed gentleman, who seemed toget more disgruntled on seeing us. We are a couple in our 70s and when my partner asked if some one could take her suitcase. Up stairs to our room I was loaded up with two bags. He threw his pen down on the floor, leaving a very embarrassed young lady to pick it up. Grabbed the suitcase and took it up stairs. We both suffer with dodgy knees, saying nothing he left me to carry my two cases up the stairs actually waiting at the top for me to come up the stairs with out saying a word. OK probably a bad day, but no excuse for bad manners. The rest of the staff and the 2 owners exceptional.

Rooms are clean and beds are comfy. We had dinner there, good range of choices and the steak and my husband slow cook stew were good. Nice that they have kids' meals but the chicken nuggets are just frozen nuggets,

The rooms are a bit small, hardly could open our two large suitcases. Also no fridge in the room. I would prefer pan fried chicken fillets not deep fried frozen nuggets for the kids meal, although most UK restaurants are guilty of this. Also they charge 4 pounds extra and 50 cents extra for the steak and ice cream sauces respectively which i thought were unfair as sauce should have be included in the price. Breakfast next day was also very expensive per head so we didn't eat there.

Really nice hotel in a quiet location, generously sized rooms with a king sized bed. We had dinner in the hotel, which was excellent, and breakfast was good too - I liked the 'Breakfast Rolls' option as a nice change from the more traditional offerings. To call the manager, Struan, a "character" would be the understatement of the year! His expertise on everything being served at the bar was impressive, his ready willingness to share his strongly held opinions on pretty much everything hugely entertaining. Definitely worth finding time for a chat with him about everything and anything.

There's very little I could find fault with, maybe the pillows weren't to my own personal liking, but that's about the extent of it.

Very friendly helpful staff who made us feel very welcome. Good food both in the evening and for breakfast. Varied menu to suit all tastes. It's in a lovely location with plenty to do in the area. Very traditional in a nice way. It was good value and would be happy to stay there again. We stayed 5 nights.

Not very much! Creaky floorboards in the room above combined with guest who seemed to be sleepwalking the entire night but hardly hotel's fault and was just 1 night. Not an issue for us but note that dinner needs to be paid for on the evening and not put on the room.

We have stayed in a lot of Hotels over the years but this is definitely one we will be coming back to. Everything was perfect. Very clean, tidy and very well presented. The food in the restaurant is well above standard and the breakfast was lovely. The bedroom was a decent size with a very comfy double bed and the shower was perfect. The room and the en suite was welcoming and clean. The staff where very welcoming and friendly.

Getting woken up at 7am with the couple next door arguing. Was looking forward to a long lie in the lovely comfortable double bed. Will not put us off going back though.

A really lovely traditional hotel, very warm and cozy. There is a games room where we enjoyed a game of pool. There is a real fire in the bar area and also a cosy lounge with library. Our room, 12, was spotless with fresh decor and a nice view over bridge and river. We booked dinner for first night of our stay. The dining room is well laid out and they have a separate dining room for guests who have their dogs staying with them. The dinner menu has plenty of variety and we thoroughly enjoyed the food served so we booked for our second night too without hesitation. The breakfast was also first class with plenty options. The staff at this hotel are exceptional, they really do go out their way to make their guests feel welcome, Straun, Gareth and team. We stayed here as we had planned some hillwalking from Glenshee Ski Centre and found this an ideal base. Also good for walking the Cateran Trail. Would definitely stay here again.

No negatives for us.

Well we got engaged here so I really can’t say anything bad about it!! It’s always expensive to stay in the Scottish countryside so we got exactly what we expected for the price. The room was an ok size and clean. The hotel has a river walk around the side, which is where we got engaged, and it’s in a lovely, quiet area. All the staff were super lovely, especially the wee girl with brown hair and glasses and the man with glasses (I think he was polish) serving breakfast, and the young guy at the reception who checked us in. Great staff really do make all the difference and you were all so lovely! The breakfast was also super tasty and included in the price.

Hotel is in a beautiful spring. Room 215 was large with a really good ensuite shower and bath. Bed was fabulous- after so many awful ones as we've travelled around Scotland. Restaurant had meals at fair prices, we had the venison casserole-delicious. Very pretty location on a river with an outdoor garden. The lounge and bar has carefully selected furniture, lots of tartans give atmosphere. Everything is comfortable. Helpful ladies on reception. All round it's a marvellous place to stay- wish we'd known earlier and booked more nights.

Breakfast was good. I had omelette both days. Dogs were given sausage on first day, sausage did not arrive on second morning. Was told that chef hadn't made them yet. Staff worked very hard and were always busy. Was given a table in the bar for breakfast and dinner rather than in dog friendly restaurant as one of our dogs is nervous and barks when people or dogs come into her space. This was our dogs first stay in a hotel and overall was a good experience. Enjoyed the short river walk around the hotel with the dogs.

No diet lemonade available in bar.
