The Golden Lion at Settle

Very good location in centre of town. Wonderful staff and overall atmosphere. Tastefully modernised public areas in keeping with its history. Excellent breakfasts. Very clean, with comfortable beds, very good showers.

All problems were minor, but there were several. No private parking. Double bedroom incl hanging space too small for 2, but ok for 1; no seat with any back support, no light over mirror/table area, no hooks for damp/wet clothes. No residents’ lounge or any quiet area. Limited veg food choice. No secure Wi-Fi. Bar closed early and no room service drinks offered.

We booked this stay very last minute as was visiting the pub itself for an after walk drink. Room was as expected, bathroom was very small so not much room to move about in their but absolutely fine for our short stay. bed was super comfy, little heater was provided and blankets, which was useful as we were visiting in winter. staff were really lovely, very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was included and this was delicious, choice of locally sourced cooked breakfast and a range of continental options. they also offer to prepare a packed breakfast if you are getting up early for a hike! Would recommend for a couple of nights stay if you need a comfy bed, good breakfast and are in the area.

The whole stay was fantastic and as we were travelling with my dog- he was treated like royalty :) Everyone was incredibly welcoming, location amazing, room great and fabulous breakfast! We will be staying again!

Everything was great but to improve would recommend for the room price having smart TV options or adding netflix/Disney plus. Personally I wouldn't benefit from it but my mum has mobility issues so this would be great for her to relax.

The staff were all attentive and friendly. The pub is gorgeous, just what you want from a country pub with delicious food. Room was comfortable and full of little extra such as bottled water and homemade biscuits. Bedding was really comfortable.

Although I booked the cheapest option, the blurb still suggested I would get a view. The view was had no scenery instead it looked into two other rooms across a roof top, so I didn't feel I could have privacy unless I pulled down the blind. . I wasn't expecting the best view but I wouldn't have mentioned view in the blurb at all for this room.

Very comfortable bed and spacious, cosy room. The setting was very quaint and peaceful, the room very quiet. The bar area is popular with visitors but it's very cosy and welcoming. The staff were all lovely, very friendly and helpful, and the pub/restaurant had a good selection of drinks and food. Although there's no parking at the property, the public car park is 1 minute walk away and it's £3.90 for 24 hours which is quite reasonable.

No issues with the hotel itself but the service in the restaurant was a little slow at times, but the food was delicious.

Loved everything about the Golden Lion. I got a really friendly welcome, which continued throughout my stay as all the team were lovely. I was on a solo bike tour and felt reassured about the security of my bike as the bike storage facilities were excellent. My room was stylish, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food at dinner and breakfast was exceptional, with great choice and quality ingredients. Great place to stay, highly recommended.

Lovely room, comfy beds and excellent evening meal. Lovely outdoor area and dinning room. Staff friendly and efficient. Great location for Pen-y-ghent. Lovely Village. Ample parking in the village. Fantastic hot powerful shower.

Booked double bed, but had 2 singles pushed together which wasn't ideal. Couple of hairs in the otherwise clean bathroom and shower cubicle and toilet seat had seen better days. Cold tap didn't work at all. Vegetarian sausage on the breakfast wasn't very nice I think a meat substitute would be better than vegetables. Black pudding was forgotten on partners breakfast. No car park.

The property was visually attractive and well maintained. The restaurant and bar area were comfortable and stylish. Our room was very elegant and had a few interesting items of furniture, and an especially attractive dressing table with beautifully carved features. Our breakfasts were extremely good. As vegetarians we were exceptionally well treated with interesting items such as eggs Florentine, and the porridge with cinnamon brown sugar was delicious. Evening meals were of a high standard, and my wife who is a coeliac had no trouble finding suitable yet delicious choices. All in all our stay at The Golden Lion was a great success, and I can certainly recommend it to one and all.

The chef is a genius The staff were very hospitable and courteous as well as being real people. And there was no loud music during the meal, which we both rate very highly.

Pillows were rather high. The pillow should be at such a height that your spine is straight. I had to use a seat cushion. I recommend MITRE pillows, that we discovered in the Scotsman Hotel Edinburgh. They're an hotel linen supply company and their pillows are the most comfortable I've ever used. I replaced all my pillows with Mitre pillows. Mitre are based in Wales, and have been going for 100 years.

well located in the middle of Settle. very friendly staff comfy , spotless room with good tea / coffee , toiletries. Nice evening meal and breakfast

Such a great place to stay so do not be put off by this . Parking is a 3 min walk away and not great if you have a lot of luggage to unload . However you can pull up directly outside the front door to unload , but it did cause disruption on the main road through Settle !!
