This is a great pub/hotel on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales located in a lovely small town just a few miles from the places I wanted to visit. The staff were really great, friendly and chatty and helpful. The food was excellent, both the breakfasts and the evening dinners, very large portions of everything and really good value for money. The beer was also relatively cheap (a lot less than around where I live). Big car park at the back of the pub. My room was basic but functional but I was told all the rooms are going to be refurbished later this year.

Lots of traffic going by but with the windows closed one hardly noticed. Wi-fi and phone signal were a bit hit and miss but I can live without them for a few days.

Set in the heart of High Bentham the Black Bull is well located for those either arriving by train or by car. Bentham is a working village and the pub sits nearby the livestock market that I think operates weekly. Don't be put off - it's fine. This is primarily walking country on the edge of Bowland Forest. The Black Bull is a good size unpretentious pub with only 3 rooms. They're currently being upgraded. We had a family room not yet upgraded - plenty of space - bed comfortable - clean bed linen and nice towels and shampoo etc very good size bathroom - proper storage for cases and a small entrance hall. Two things in these short stay accommodations seem to me to be vital - one is a decent breakfast and the other is easy access to your room all day. This had both- a cooked breakfast that really was generous and provided delicacies like fried mushrooms and black pudding as standard. It'd keep you walking all day. Over and above was the very warm welcome of all those working there...they were helpful and kind throughout.

The only thing I'd say was missing was a grab rail in the shower.

Excellent value for money. The room and facilities had recently been updated and both were very clean. Accommodation was a little 'bijou' but adequate and comfortable. Marvellous breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff. Would certainly stay again.

Shower mat would have obviated slip hazard and shelf in shower for shampoo etc. would have been useful. But how picky can you get?!

Bar staff were very friendly on arrival. Carol the landlady was super friendly and clearly set the bar for how staff welcome customers. Room was clean with ample space for me and my dog. Poochy was made to feel very welcome and at home. Breakfast was traditional and lovely.

Only really I felt that 10am is a little early for check out but also appreciate that they need to have the rooms turned over before service starts again for the day as they are a open house/pub rather than solely hotel facilities

Very warm welcome from the host, Roy. The room was comfortable and clean and equipped with everything one could need for a short stay. Good, wholesome pub grub available at the bar. Breakfast was ready and waiting and again just the ticket. Convenient and secure parking on site Looking forward to staying again when I next come to Bentham. Many Thanks

Roy and ALL the Staff, were wonderful. They couldn't do enough for my Father & I. Nothing was too much trouble. Great little place, well run by a very friendly team.

If I had to have a gripe about anything it would have to be the loose toilet seat. Other than that, the facilities and Staff were excellent.

Just stayed for 2 nights in the family room that is more like a suite. The bathroom is enormous and lovely. From the moment we arrived the hosts could not have been more friendly and helpful, nothing was too much of an issue. We had an evening meal (7 of us) and the food was excellent and plentiful (beers pretty good too) . To cap it all off the breakfast is absolutely wonderful and again excellent portions. Would highly recommend staying here and we will Dey be going back

Loved it all

The staff were excellent, my wife is vegetarian and coeliac however Andy and his staff were excellent and fully aware of the implications (which is rare ) and adapted or created food to suit her. Large parking area to rear of hotel, rooms were clean, bed comfortable and serving good evening 'pub grub' with traditional Thwaites ales. The full breakfast is also large and very good too. Landlord even enabled me to watch the British Lions rugby match while others watched the Euro semi final. Hotel also a local pub and is well located for walking or catching the train into the beautiful Yorkshire country side. Busy village location.

Not much to dislike at all, furniture and carpets could do with some updating as they look a bit tired (but we have only just come out of covid) and alfresco outdoor space is limited, Acid test, 'would we go again?' yes we would.

Stayed for one night, 11th of June for a stop over prior to my road trip around God's Country on the bike 🏍. From the first moment at arrival, made to feel welcome. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The room was room 1, it does exactly what you would hope. The room was so cheap so anyone that complains would be from another planet. The room is clean tidy, towels and toiletries provided, spot on and perfect for my needs. Had a meal downstairs, really good and massive portions. Again lovely pub, great staff. This place is worth every penny and more. Highly recommended Thanks all, Gary Fowler MAAT

The accommodation was clean and tidy and great value for money. The pub itself served a good selection of food and a decent pint. It is in a great location 15-mins drive to the start of the Three Yorkshire Peaks and White Scar cave. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful where they provided me with a packed lunch for the following days activities. Highly recommend.
