We know the village and the location of the pub well so knew what to expect and knew that we’d get good service from the landlady and her staff. The room was ideal, the bed very comfortable and we were impressed that there was a variety of teas available in the room. The breakfasts were extremely good.

We arrived in the rain and there was nowhere to hang our wet jackets up in the room other than the back of the chair or on the curtain rail, a simple double hook on the door would have been a perfect solution. The seating, a sofa and chair were welcome additions to the room however they were rather noisy to sit on.

It was a good pub accommodation. Stayed in the separate building from the pub itself with large rooms and a patio. Dining in the pub, which was across the yard. Food was excellent and everyone was friendly. On site parking was appreciated once spaces became available.

On our arrival, the car park was exceptionally busy and not everyone parked considerately. Had to squeeze into a spot and then move when other spaces were vacated. Without satnav you'd become lost in the one-way system around the village, which isn't that big and reminded me of the 1960's children's TV programme, Trumpton. It has a fire station too. And a charity book hut.

The accommodation block looks new or newly refurbished, with a really nice entrance hall with courtesy guest umbrellas (Which was very handy as I arrived in glorious sun but left in a storm). The room was fresh and modern, with everything you would expect (Tea/coffee) but also had biscuits and bottled water. The large walk-in shower was lovely with the option of the rainforest style head. Food in the evening was very enjoyable and obviously home-made, lemon tart was amazing. Lots of burger choices if that's your thing. Great choice for breakfast with smoked salmon being available rather than just the usual fried fare and they happily swapped out the scrambled egg for perfectly poached ones. Dogs are welcome in the bar, but not sure about in the accommodation (If they did, I'd definitely go back with mine for leisure rather than business).

Literally the only thing I can think of is having coffee bags in the room rather than instant coffee sachets (bit of a coffee addict 😁)

I had a one night stay. The staff were very attentive and helpful from the moment I booked in. I had forgotten a USB charging plug and they (Chloe) supplied one for me. The room was very clean and had sufficient tea / coffee /milk. Breakfast was included and was a full English including toast and hot and cold drinks, all served at a reserved table, as was dinner the previous evening. All of the food was nicely cooked.

As it was very warm during my stay, air-conditioning or even a fan in the room would have been appreciated. I forgot a USB charging plug and while the staff were very helpful in providing one it would be even better if the rooms had USB sockets.

After a day at Compton Verney, my group of friends and I stayed at the Merrie Lion, using four rooms between us. We were given such a warm welcome by Daphne and her lovely staff. Dinner was very good, the catering for a vegetarian was also good. The rooms, set.to one side of the pub in a separate annexe, were spacious, fresh, clean and comfortable, with a nice wet room - and rainwater shower - ensuite. They had a sofa and coffee table and a comfortable chair, which was nice when we got together for our pre-bed natter! The bed was lovely and the tea/coffee facilities were generous. The village is small and quiet so it was a peaceful night. Breakfast was very nice also. We're planning to make this meet-up an annual event and will be booking again! Thank you Daphne and staff for a lovely stay 💛

The Merrie Lion is a lovely traditional village pub, the hub of the community. In fact, the villagers of Fenny Compton came together to save the pub, many of whom are now shareholders in the pub, and keep the place thriving. It was lovely to witness the community spirit there. The B&B rooms are located in a newly built annex across the pub carpark, and, as such, are quiet, modern and very comfortable; the bathroom has a great shower, and my groundfloor room even had a small enclosed "backyard" with patio table and chairs. There is a plentiful choice for breakfast, traditional and continental, which should be ordered by 8pm the night before. Tables can be reserved for lunch and dinner, and I highly recommend you do. I enjoyed one of the best meals I'd had in quite a long time. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and polite. If/when I am back in the area, I would, without a doubt, come here again! (So, Chef, please keep the salmon with leek & chive mash and assorted green veggies on the menu!)

I loved the location, slightly remote, close to many other picturesque villages, as well as the Burton Dassett Hills Country Park where sheep roam free, but without your own transport, you could have problems.

The property was a traditional English pub with a great atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. The accommodation was absolutely just what we needed a home from home. Comfortable, clean and tidy. The land lady and all members of staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was outstanding from the cooked breakfast to the evening meals catering for our party of 10 for the evening. We will definitely be back. Thank you all so much.

Absolutely nothing

A The room was very big and spotless. The bathroom was amazing and the bed very comfortable. We ate at the Merrie Lion and the food was first class, very tasty and cooked to perfection . We booked our choice for breakfast the night before and selected a small and large cooked breakfast. Again both were cooked to perfection and served piping hot All the staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent service and stay We will be back !!

There was absolutely nothing to dislike. Everything was perfect. Thank you very much

It was obviously fairly new, so immaculate. Comfy beds, decent shower and bathroom, even had comfy chairs instead of the bed (although a bit squeaky!!!) Great options for tea/coffee. Useful that it had one key for both outside door and room.

You can hear people in the rooms either to the side or below - either with the tv or their voices, albeit faintly. Plus the doors do tend to slam shut, so was a little annoying. I would say the breakfast form needs improving, as they got both of ours wrong - but a minor issue.

A charming village with this old stone pub in its centre. We were in a campervan but room in the carpark. The welcome from the staff was wonderful - meal and real ales were superb. The seafood tagliatelle was magnificent and portion very generous. Room was in a converted annexe - modern, very clean and spacious with windows that open! Breakfast selected the previous evening was freshly individually cooked by the lovely host. A super out of the way find.
