Red Lion Hotel by Greene King Inns

The staff were exceptionally helpful - a special mention for Daniel, who was keen to meet all our needs. The hotel is in a good location for daily travel to Cropredy festival. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was easy and close to the entrance. Breakfast was extremely good, with a continental buffet plus a wide choice of cooked breakfast for both veggies and meaties. The two lunches we had were very good.

It was a heavy slog carrying cases to our rooms (12 & 14). Up and down several staircases and corridors. There probably isn't room to instal a lift, but perhaps the fire door closer to the rooms could be adapted? The shower was weak and took ages to warm up. The free WiFi (The Cloud) was too unreliable to be of any use in the room. £180 per night is a lot of money for an average sized room.

The staff were excellent, extremely helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well equipped. Unfortunately the towel heater wasn't working and the bathroom fan was very noisy! The dinner menu is quite basic but food was excellent quality and very well cooked. Breakfast menu was very good and was equally well cooked, especially the 'eggs royal'!

The group management really need to invest in some redecoration for both the public areas and the bedrooms. Because of this, the public areas gave one the impression of a shabby hotel even before seeing the bedroom!

Stayed for an overnight whilst travelling. The manager was very welcoming and accommodated our needs, making a table for a snack available for us. Breakfast was traditional but beautifully cooked. The waitress was excellent. The manager remembered us from the busy evening before which impressed me.

An information sheet in the bedroom about the night door and breakfast times. It was hard to remember the information given on arrival at the end of a long journey. I am allergic to plug in air fresheners. I did mention it and was advised I could have put it on the booking, not something I'd thought about.

Beautiful breakfast room/restaurant. Staff attentive to dietary needs. Staff remembered me and why I was there. Single room had all the facilities I needed and EVERYTHING WORKED. I dont think I have stayed in a hotel room including 4 and 5 star rooms in London when i havent had to go and ask for something such as a bathmat or ask where the heating was or have to use a kettle inside a wardrobe or have no kettle in the room - not with this hotel. I do have a video because the quirky room had an upstairs bathroom but I cant access it at the moment but maybe I can add a second instalment. Anyone with mobility issues would I imagine ask when they book a room - this hotel would not be for them.

The stairs were extremely steep. All part of the fun.

The hotel was lovely in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was superb. Fabulous evening meal, pub classics with a gourmet twist, great vegetarian and vegan options and a selection of specials too. The breakfast offered everything and again with vegetarian and vegan options, delicious, also at a decent time so you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to enjoy. All round a superb experience and would definitely recommend.

The staff and manager were really helpfull, and cheerfull considering it was in the middle of the heatwave,they worked hard to make sure my stay was as good as they could make it for me,good beers,excellent food well priced,big free parking,breakfast was excellent,whatever I wanted off the breakfast menu,bedroom was good, clean ,good quality bed,tea and coffee in room,good shower,,I,ll definitely be staying here again, location only a few miles off the M49,ideal stopoff to break the north/south journey,or to stay a few nights to sample the local delites,very good,well done the. The staff at the hotel were very helpful when we needed to check in as early as possible before attending a local wedding, offering alternative suggestions in case our room wasn't ready. Great location for Dovecote Events. We really liked our room with a mezzanine bath / shower room.

We were woken quite early on the Sunday by what sounded like a car engine running in the carpark outside. Turned out to be the extractor fan for the kitchen which wasn't great.

A warm welcome on arrival and excellent attention throughout our stay. Parking on site, tasty and well presented menu at any time of day. Hosts and staff all turned themselves to various tasks to ensure all bases were covered and they did it with good grace, cheerfully and efficiently.

Found the mattress in room 12, a little too firm - other than that, could fault nothing.

A fantastic 4 days, the exceptional staff made our stay very special. With particular thanks to Katie who is a true 11 out of 10. The setting was perfect, matched with the accommodation and and relaxing ambience made this great for us

Fine for us

Pretty village location close to Banbury and Duncan Bannatyne Spa. Comfortable beds with good quality bedding. Busy restaurant and bar with terrace overlooking a green. lovely to take breakfast outside on a sunny day. Had a problem with shower that was resolved by hotel manager quickly and efficiently.

Guests with reduced mobility may struggle with winding, narrow stairs and narrow corridors.
