Muthu Westcliff Hotel (Near London Southend Airport)

Helpful staff. Nice outlook. Well positioned.

The lift was small, hot and erratic. Occasionally it would show 3 when we were on the 4th floor. Had to press the buttons several times to get it going. The bathroom needs an exhaust fan as a long hot shower turns it into a sauna. The website says the hotel has parking but there is none. There is street parking which has to be paid for by downloading an app and giving your details to a third party, including your credit card. There is pay and display nearby and free, 1 or 2 hour, parking 8 to 10 mins walk away. Southend wasn’t as much of a parking nightmare that the internet had led me to believe but it is something you have to consider if driving there.

Location was great and peaceful.

Restaurant on Sunday evening was a bit of a disappointment. We were told the last serving was 6:45, so we booking in at 6:30. There was clearly only one member of staff in the restaurant and she seemed to spend the whole time apologising to the half dozen tables about the fact that this or that was not on the menu as the chef had gone home. We ourselves were only offered ice cream for dessert as there was nothing else on offer. I felt sorry for the one staff member, but the reality is, either there is sufficient staff to run it properly, or they should not open.

Spent very little time in the hotel. No breakfast so can’t comment. Bed was comfortable. Good view over the water from room. Hotel was very quiet.

I understand the restaurant was closed for dinner as they had no chef.

Very professional staff. Very friendly.. easy check in and very helpful with parking . great location. Beautiful view of the sea from our room. Buffet breakfast exceptional. Great size room we stayed in one of the junior suites .spa bath was small but divine. Couldn't fault the hotel and it's amenities. Ten minutes from Southend pier. Was given a map, very useful.

There were two negatives Stained mattress and carpet. Carpet looked like blood. Mattress very stained. Such a shame as was so comfy. Shower, couldn't get to right temperature as it was scorching hot and if u turned the knob too far it came off. Room 112. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel was well situated, beautiful area,peaceful and quiet, would stay again.beautiful building,and the receptionist, both ladies,were lovely,and obliging, so overall enjoyed our stay ,despite the few problems we had,

Phone didn't work in room 301,also heating didn't work,we had a radiator heater didn't work,told reception and while we my friend and I,they put in another radiator and that worked fine,also the cold tap didn't in the handbasin,didn't work,as it was Easter weekend, no one available to repair it,so dissapointed about that,but we had a lovely stay,thank you. it was strange that the room was not made up once and we put the sign for (make up room) we stayed for 6 nights maybe there was a timing problem because we did leave the room at 11 / 12 o’clock but apart from that it was great they did upgrade us to a executive room without asking so that was nice but because its at the back of the property you have to open all the taps to get hot water the rest of it was great and we would stay again if we had business nearby.

Location was excellent for the cliffs pavilion. Upgrade was a lovely bonus - double aspect room with jacuzzi bath. Friendly staff particularly on reception when we booked in and had trouble with the parking app! Weather was dreadful but the room warm and very comfortable.

The shower was cold but reported to reception on checkout so hopefully sorted for the next guest. Also didn’t realise from website that it was a buffet breakfast rather than off menu. It was reasonable but as we went to breakfast after 9 some items may have been sitting a bit longer than if ordered fresh from menu.

We loved the atmosphere of the hotel the staff were very friendly and eager to help in any way within couple of minutes of cliffs pavillion where we saw a show On Friday Saturday we had a slow walk down to Southend where we shopped most of the day in the high street before catching a cab home it was quick and easy to call a cab Lots of very friendly locals can't wait to return our breakfast was pre booked and all of it was lovely plenty of choice the rooms were very clean and we had a wonderful seaview no traffic noise windows that open up for fresh air shampoo and body wash supplied also tea and coffee facilities in room clean white towels and a heated towel rail in bathroom all-in all an exceptional hotel I would love to visit again All in all a wonderfully stay 5*

I felt the dinner menu was quite expensive for what it was but they do a pre theatre menu 1,2,pr 3 courses but we had to wait a while for food too .also quite a few marble steps in front of entrance which was quite hard to climb especially when it rained

Excellent location lovely view from the hotel . Receptionist very helpful. Nice big bedroom/ bathroom. Good selection of food available for Breakfast and it was ok . Tuxedo bar was nice after an evening out. Very quaint lift !

Parking not that the hotel can be much about that as you have to pay the local council . Ended up paying two lots of parking charges for an over night stay - due the way the parking times are set up .
