Best Western The George Hotel, Swaffham

Easy to get to and ample parking. Bathroom cosy, but functional. Bed was comfortable. Room was quite big with a great desk for working - perfect for laptop etc. Staff were great - especially in the bar/restaurant. Very pleasant evening.

At 06:30 this morning, outside the window (room 51), lots of crashing around and voices of two people jibber-jabbering about 'stuff'. Clearly no idea that what they were doing had disturbed a guest. Yes, hotels have to have deliveries, etc. but staff should know that outside room windows, people are going to hear your conversations…Yes - pretty much all of it. Especially very early in the day. It happens, but was rather annoying (as the rest of the night had been very quiet). Avoid room 51 for early morning alarm calls that were not requested.... And someone started again at 07:00....

Very good for a 3* hotel. Room was spacious and clean, beds comfortable,. We were pleased to have a room at the back, which was quiet ( other sides overlook the car park or road, though neither are busy). Tea & coffee in rooms & nice continental breakfast option with fresh pastries, cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurts etc. ( Also cooked breakfast option, tho'we didn't have that). Ample space for car parking which was free, as was the wi-fi. . Lounge area and bar seemed pleasant, but we didn't spend time there. Staff were exceptionally nice & helpful. My husband had a migraine the morning we were due to leave, so we couldn't vacate the room at 11 am. The hotel was very accommodating and allowed us to stay an extra 2-3 hours until he felt well enough to drive. Swaffham is lovely market town- a pleasure to stroll around.

No smoking in the outdoor bar terrace ( only in a small dark designated smoking shelter round the corner) - but that'll be a plus for non smokers, who are probably in the majority ! Tiny grumble that the fresh chopped fruit bowl at breakfast was empty and not refilled (though I perhaps should have asked).

We had a lovely big, quiet room with a recently refurbished bathroom. Huge, comfortable bed. Plenty of tea and coffee provided. Mostly friendly staff. No problem storing our bicycles. Good location near to centre of town. Breakfast was fine though some fresh fruit would have been welcome. Fans provided in the room - which we needed overnight even though it was April as the room was very warm.

The whole hotel was very hot….this was on a day when it was pretty chilly outside. Our room was too warm and there was no way of controlling it. Stairs up to the bathroom needed care to negotiate in the middle of the night.

Room was lovely and large with a superb bathroom. Breakfast was really good. reception staff very helpful

Bar and dining room staff were morose - no smiles, just 'Good morning' said coldly - 'what do you want for breakfast' radiator in our room could not be operated manually and the room was very warm, However, a member of staff did come up with a pair of pliers (!) and turn it off manually. I am a type 1 diabetic and intolerant (very, very) to alcohol. There were no sugar free soft drinks suitable for diabetics in the bar - and non alcoholic gin does not count.

Great location for this area of Norfolk. The hotel itself has helpful and friendly staff, a big car park, clean rooms and good value for money. The George is clearly a hotel with a bit of history, and my room had a good view of the town and was within earshot of the bells of the parish church - and I quite liked the fact they chimed throughout the night. Maybe other folk wouldn’t!

Nothing to particularly dislike, but maybe the hotel needs a bit of TLC….but would need to be sensitively done to maintain the historic features.

After a five-hour car trip to get there, with a five-hour trip to return home, the stay in the middle at this hotel was perfect. The staff were terrific, very helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and tidy, and breakfast was great. We returned late after a concept at Sandringham and Barry the night porter was very helpful and even opened up the bar so we could have a quick drink before retiring. If over this way again then this would be my goto hotel.

We booked a family room, but this turned out to be two rooms and separate bathroom on a private (locked) corridor, which was ideal for us (our children are 14 and 10.) The rooms, which were in the old part of the hotel, were a good size too. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had a couple of pints in the hotel bar, which were in great condition :-)

The beds were a little hard, and because we had to leave the windows open at night (we stayed during a heatwave) it was a bit noisy, as the hotel is situated right at a road junction. We didn't pay for breakfast as it would have been £52 for the four of us, which is a bit much if you only want cereal and toast.

Swaffham is a very lively town, conveniently situated for Kings Lynn, Thetford and tourist attractions in West Norfolk generally. The George Hotel is a traditional hotel in an old, characterful building with competent and helpful staff. We had a double room on the first floor, looking out over the road. The room was very spacious, with a bath and shower to choose from. The shower was easy to use and there was plenty of hot water. The bed was very comfortable. Dinner was very good value - the portions were more than generous, and the continental breakfast set us up for a long day of sightseeing.

Station Road is very busy, and if you open the windows to get some air you will also get the noise of the traffic and the sound of the nearby church bells sounding every quarter of an hour! The hotel is on a busy junction, so it is really only practicable to access it by turning left from Station Road and exiting left from the car park as well. The George Hotel is an old and characterful building and it seems that every time you go through a door, the floor level changes! So, you need to watch your step constantly. As there is no lift, anyone with mobility problems would need a room on the ground floor. There were not many vegan or vegetarian options on the dinner menu - there were some, but it would be nice to see the range extended.

I arrived to a friendly welcome (Anne, I think), and really informative. She helped me store my bicycle in a safe room for the night and on check out I was helped to collect it. My room was really spacious, clean with all the facilities I needed. The breakfast selection was great and I would happily stay here again in future.

My room had slightly outdated decor, but this didn't effect the comfort or my experience at the hotel.

Staff were great, attentive and pleasant. Food was excellent and plentiful and the car park was pretty big and easily accessible. Big room and huge bed too.Room 106

The only thing that I can think of, is that the bed was a little bit lumpy and maybe could be replaced, seemed a little passed its due date and maybe the bathroom could do with bringing into the 2000's ,dated ,but the shower was amazing, powerful and hot.
