The food was excellent, we had breakfast and an evening meal. All staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. The location was lovely with ample parking.

Our room was clean and cosy. However we found the description on Booking.com website misleading as our room was described as a superking room while another room was described as a king room. We opted for the superking, thinking it would be bigger. In fact our room had a king bed and was the smallest room. Our friends' room was bigger, with a superking bed in it.

From the very first contact at the Mary Tavy Inn we were treated like part of the family. All the staff were very accommodating. Every single member took time to talk to us and take interest in us. There was no feeling of being rushed, and I believe if we had to complain of anything it would not have been too much trouble to put right. On our arrival Becky was very welcoming and explained all we needed to know. George behind the bar identified us straight away when we walked into the busy bar area and went out of his way to show us to the restaurant area. At breakfast both Kim and Becky were attentive, taking time to enquire if everything was in order and ensuring we had all we need. I've saved comments about Denise, the waitress, until last. A lovely , friendly lady with a great sense of humour, which is always very welcome. The service was top notch! We never met the chef, but all credit to them for wonderfully prepared and tasty meals.

The only complaint is that we did not have the opportunity to stay longer. There was nothing to complain about.

The owners were extremely welcoming. nothing was too much and you could see they have put a lot of hard work into the pub and the accommodation. The accommodation is away from the Pub making it even more ideal as using the side entrance meant more discretion than having to walk through a busy pub. Breakfast was exceptional and ranged from full English [delicious sausages and bacon] cereals, yogurts etc. The pub itself was surprisingly large inside and the restaurant was away from the main bar which made it ideal for peace and quiet while you ate. I'd say the inside of the pub was based on the old traditional look with a hint of modernisation, including a historical military theme that really made looking around quite interesting. The location is on the main road from the moors to Tavistock. I highly recommend Tavistock as a stop-off for shopping and food too. Very quaint, clean, and has lots of variations of small niche shops. The wife loved them!! Being so close to the moors also gives you so many options. A walkers paradise!! One other thing about the pub is the beautiful views it has. The beer garden has some well-placed seating and the field you overlook had some miniature cows that really looked amazing/cute and seemed to just enhance what was already a lovely place to be. Parking is plentiful and my advice is to book in first at the bar then go back for your luggage as you can then go directly from the car park, through the side entrance, and to your accommodation. The evening food was absolutely delicious and the lasagne was one of the best I have ever tasted! All freshly made at the Inn so none of this microwave-type food as other pubs do tend to give you. I 'highly' recommend the Mary Tavy Inn. We will for sure be booking to stay there again in the future, as I would think most people would be.

This isn't a didn't like but more just to say that the room we had was not huge, so space was perhaps a 'little' cramped. But don't let this put you off any as what you might sacrifice in room size you get back in abundance with everything else at the Mary Tavy Inn.

Location: On the main road from Tavistock going north, just outside the village of Mary Tavy itself. There's plenty of car parking in the car park next to the pub. It's 15-30 minutes to most parking places on the moor to go for walks. Rooms: The guest rooms are a separate block of buildings behind the pub, so you are separated from any noise of the bar and restaurant areas. The rooms are well-insulated and quiet, with a good shower and bathroom. Our bed was very comfortable the first night, but felt a bit less comfortable the second. This may have had something to do with the sore muscles and bruises from a long hike on the moors during the day! The interior decoration standards are high and there is a comprehensively-supplied hot drinks setup in the room. Wifi: Reasonably fast, works in the bar/restaurant area and the guest rooms too. Mobile coverage is present in the area but a bit sparse, so use the Wifi to access the Internet. Drink: Local ales (Jail Ale and Legend, both at 4.something %ABV with the Legend being more strongly hopped for a bitter) from the Dartmoor Brewery were tasty and well-kept. Local cider is from Wistman's and was very good - medium-dry, slightly sparkling, with a pronounced apple flavour. Food: The Full English breakfast was rather dry, but mostly OK. The breakfast scrambled eggs with salmon were much better, and I would recommend them. Dinner is available as either a 3-course a la carte menu or single-course pub classics. Items from both menus were well-prepared from high quality ingredients. You could definitely eat well here for several days if you didn't want to look anywhere else. Staff: the proprietors and all the staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and competent.

Food was particularly good and we were well looked after. Rooms were comfortable and properly equipped. Wifi was good in the pub (although a little weak in the bedrooms).

Starting breakfast a little earlier would have been useful at this time of year. For those who are walking, an early sunset means that missing an hour of walking time in the morning is sad.

Choice of breakfast was very good, particularly as i am vegetarian. Evening meals excellent. Staff were most helpful arranging an extra bed when they hadn't got the message that we wanted twin beds not a double. Several real ales available. Garden was exceptional with sun loungers, picnic tables and a telescope to see the dark skies over Dartmoor!

Nothing could have been better.

Lovely location with views over the countryside. Cosy pub restaurant. Good choice of beers. Plenty of choices for breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Not far from Tavistock and local walks.

It would have been good to be able to have fresh fruit as a breakfast choice. The restaurant isn’t open on Sunday evening so we had to go to the next village for a meal.

Breakfast was nicely cooked and well presented. The location was good as a base for travelling to other locations.

The restaurant was not open on Sunday evenings or Monday lunch or evenings which is not good for residents. Also during these times there are no areas to relax in. There are no nearby facilities.

A superbly located hotel, with lovely outlooks onto the moors. Our room looked out on a field of cows, far nicer than a road. The breakfast was well presented and very enjoyable, we didn't feel hurried at all. We couldn't find fault any way. Many of the guests were returnees as we hope to be. this is thanks to all the hard work of the owners.

We couldn't find anything we disliked.

Staff were amazing and friendly, breakfast was delicious The animals were an added bonus ( apart from the cockrell)

Pub was incredibly busy on Fri and Sat night which meant a gauntlet run to get to restaurant area, some mold in bathroom but it's an old village pub, biscuits on tea tray were out of date 🤦‍♀️
