Bedford Hotel

Room was clean and tidy and bed comfortable. Breakfast was good except poached eggs undercooked. Cannot fault the location and managed to find a parking space every day. Very nice staff doing a good job.

I had a room on the third floor. Requested a quiet room due to the function taking place during the stay. However I had 58 stairs to climb, with luggage. A bit tiring with two stents in my heart and a relatively new hip. A lift reaching all floors would have been appreciated. The only lift goes to first floor and is for wheelchairs only and not customers with luggage.

The room was standard quality but the hotel reception rooms were delightful. The included breakfast was delicious and we had the feeling that we could probably have ordered anything we liked! We also enjoyed a special cream tea and that was lovely. Possibly the hotel’s greatest selling point though is the staff. So helpful, particularly on the reception desk. One (slightly older) fair haired receptionist with glasses, sorry should have noted her name!, was particularly outstanding and really couldn’t do more to help guests. Thanks to everyone though for a lovely 2 night stay.

The room was very noisy due to early start traffic outside and the need to open windows on a warm night,but that is not within the hotel's control. The shower was fairly minimal. They added a car park charge only for Booking.com bookings! This was a not clear on booking and seems just a crafty way to get back some of their Booking.com commission. With the exception of the reception staff, the other staff need to learn to smile a bit more.

Reception staff absolutely fantastic - they couldn't do more for you. Location fantastic too and good quality breakfast. Hotel parking facilities also good.

Staff at breakfast were young, untrained and whilst nice people, they were pretty useless which ruined the breakfast experience as food quality was excellent. Didnt think our room was value for money - it was a 4 poster - the room was not very big and had a jacuzzi bath with no shower - would probably go for a cheaper standard room next time as doubt it would be much smaller The light outside the bedroom window came on at something like 5.45am making the room light.

Good location in relation to town centre. Dinner in evening excellent. Breakfast excellent. Lovely staff and good atmosphere.

Our room on third floor was frankly disappointing. No lift so quite a trudge up three flights of stairs with suitcases. Small room and tiny bathroom. Not great for £162 / night! Also nearby nightclub was still going strong at 2am making a racket on the front street.

Aa a hometown boy , I took my wife to my home town for our 20th. The Bedford could not have been better. You would not believe what you get for a 3*. The hotel is 200 years old; as is most of Tavistock, which dates back to 974AD. The room was lovely. And the fact that we had a four poster bed was an accidental perfect. Staff were really friendly and would accommodate anything we asked. Food was excellent and locacally sourced:. I know some of their suppliers from my childhood. Most of their suppliers are only a few minutes walk away. Plus note . Only 31 rooms in the hotel, so really cosy. My wife was really impressed with the bath cum jacuzzi. Not my thing..5 stars for everything. Definitely not a one time stay.. photos show some of Tavistock's hidden history.

Everything was very good or better. Couldn't find anything to fault.

Clean,well organized and efficient team who were also friendly and personable throughout our two day stay. Perfect setting in a welcoming and characterful historic town. We felt well rested and happy to return at some later date.

A couple of small niggles affected our stay: The shower screen (Room 30) needs replacing with something more efficient - fell apart and leaked water all over the floor My partner felt the bed could be more comfortable as he felt it was lumpy and disturbed his sleep.

Breakfast was excellent. All staff were exceptional and went out of their way to rectify issues where possible and give feedback quickly.

The evening restaurant menu doesn’t offer a lot of choice for people who don’t want chilli in their food. I wouldn’t expect a restaurant in a hotel in the centre of Tavistock to include so much chilli particularly as it is not advertised as a specialist restaurant. For a one night stay it’s not a real problem but it could be if you are eating in the restaurant for a few nights in a row.

Breakfast was great, staff friendly, very helpful and a credit to the hotel. Great location, and plenty of parking when we visited.

Room exceedingly hot even in June. Having spoken to a very helpful lady on reception a pedestal fan was taken to our room which helped a bit. If visiting in warm weather I would advise to ask to not be given a third floor room.

Second visit here in a few months. If u want peace and quiet. This the place. Is lovely Only 31 bedrooms. We were lucky to get the same room again with a four poster. Which was lovely for a birthday occasion. Food Iis great and mostly locally sourced. No appogiies for shouting my home town. Facilities unbelievable. Wife very attracted to spa/bath. In a 3 star..10 out of 10. We coming back soon
