Second time I have stayed here, and it is just as warm, friendly and welcoming as before. There is a great team here. The rooms are warm and clean, and I really did enjoy a good night’s sleep throughout my stay. The team worked very hard to ensure my stay was perfect. Things have been improved, more meal options, and now a superb Sunday roast/lunch is provided. It represents excellent value for money.
It takes time to sort out little niggles like dated wallpaper, older furniture and the surroundings. Things have been done and the team are aware of what still needs to be done.

The Moorland is a great hotel, perfect for Dartmoor walks, individual and very well cared for. Agatha Christie wrote her first novel here in 1916 and you can easily imagine her staying. We returned for our first 2024 visit and I had mushroom curry for dinner. It was so delicious that I went to find out who cooked it. I was surprised to find it was Madan, a wonderful chef recently arrived from Nepal. A Nepalese curry in the middle of Dartmoor ! How superb ! In fact the whole team are Nepalese. The quality of service is excellent, the care and consideration of guests exemplary. We will of course be going back soon. Many thanks to everybody especially Sudeep.
We had a great day on Wednesday but the rain came Thursday !

Lovely location, staff very friendly and good food. I had to arrive later than planned and rang ahead to enquire about food service, they took my order over the phone (so I didn’t miss it) and then bought it up to the room after I checked in, also included a complimentary brownie as I’d had a bit of trauma and it was my bday. Food was fab and very reasonable. Lovely location for the moor, was there to compete the dog in a race near Plymouth and was a very dog friendly hotel as well.
I prefer a slightly firmer mattress but they are soo individual, only reason it didn’t have a full score on the comfort for me.

I only had breakfast. The chef and manage were super friendly and efficient. I ordered breakfast when I checked in. Not many hotels cook an omelette so it's always good when I have one. Friendly service and nice atmosphere.
This isn't a criticism of the hotel just a personal preference. I like some background news or music at breakfast. the dining room was so quiet I think it would be good to have something on. Again, that's more a personal preference.

The hotel staff were very friendly, and gave excellent customer service. The room you could tell had been freshly cleaned the floor in the bathroom was practically sparkling, and the room felt fresh. It was light and airy for a single room. Definitely well looked after.
I'll nit pick a little here, the bed was hard to fall asleep in as it kept bashing against the wall creating a loud bang that echoed. The only other thing I'll say is that the heaters either don't work or are too old fashioned for some of us to figure out. Plus too close to the bed to not be consider a fire hazard.

We chose to stay here as we were visiting family in Plymouth. The hotel is located just outside Plymouth and situated literally on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. On arrival we parked in the large car park at the rear of the hotel and then we entered the hotel and were greeted by warm and friendly staff members and directed to our room. We stayed in "The Wotter Room" (13), a large spacious room well equipped with everything we needed. The room had great views overlooking the moors and Plymouth Sound. Like all places at the moment Covid restrictions are in place but this did not spoil our stay here. The staff have minimal contact with guests but will help you out with requests of things you need during your stay. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice and had excellent meals and were great value for money. Unfortunately the breakfast room was closed and breakfast had to be preordered the night before so it could be collected the following morning, we found this to be quite handy as we could grab and go and then venture out onto the moors. Thank you Moorland Hotel, very friendly welcoming staff, we had a great stay and we are both eager to return when we are able to in the future.

Very friendly staff..made us welcome and our dogs. Good food in the restaurant and huge tv in bar. Just comfortable all around..superb views from our room on 2nd floor. Even had a balcony. Definitely recommend but don't expect a modern hotel.
Very dated hotel. Bucket in reception catching drips. Very remote and difficult to get to. But that could be part of its charm too. Looks a bit like a penitentiary from the outside. But looks are deceiving.

Location, stunning. Attitude towards dogs, stunning. Helpfulness of staff, great. Room facilities, very nice. Cleanliness, very good.
Shower enclosure quite small (I’m rotund++), though plenty of hot water and pressure. Balcony door is very noisy, both in our room and others. Would have expected breakfast to be included at the price. Previous guest’s poo on the toilet brush. Not a fault of the hotel but noisy and inconsiderate guests arriving at 12:30 by taxi. Plenty of signs to be quiet. Set my, and other’s dogs barking. Would like to see a cordoned area for dogs off lead as the road could be dangerous, so they had to stay on lead for ‘exercise’. I know the moor is opposite but for a 10 minute run around it’s still too close to the road. Finally, my dogs are fed a raw diet (and this market is growing) so somewhere to store refrigerated food would be very helpful.

Staff were amazing and very welcoming. We arrived late Friday evening after some minor hiccups. Was greeted by a lovely young lady who checked us in quickly and offered us a table in the restaurant even though we didn’t make a reservation. Everyone greeted us with a smile and enjoyed a friendly conversation. Service all round was quick and efficient and made our stay that bit more enjoyable. Also the food in the Restaurant is amazing 10/10 rating for the kitchen staff.
Room could of done with a freshen up before arrival as it was a little dusty and didn’t smell fresh. The clean could of been abit more thorough as we found crumbs under seating cushions and pipes under toilet was not up to standard with the rest of the bathroom.

A wonderfully comfortable place to stay with warm and welcoming hosts/staff. We had a lovely ensuite room with a balcony and a sea view. Amazing chef provided excellent food, lovely menu with mix of steaks, fish and the most fantastic curries. We loved the Chicken Tikka masala and the Lamb Madras. Our nervous dog also treated with patience and kindness. Thank you. We will definitely return.
