Waterton Park Hotel

Prior to arrival, we had asked whether we could have a room in Walton Hall (on the island) which they were able to accommodate. It is a beautiful building with a lovely bridge to access. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was lovely, very good size, view overlooking the lake. Breakfast was good. Cannot fault the hotel.

For us, location wasn't great if you want to be able to get out and di things -there were leisure facilities and spa (we didn't use as staying for 1 night). They have a restaurant on site but we wanted to venture out. Most other restaurants were around 40 minutes walk, which we didn't mind (could have driven but we live to be on foot where possible 😄) Not so much a negative but something to be aware of.

The location was amazing and the swimming pool was lovely. The food was great and beautifully presented. My room was fine although it was at the top of the hotel and up 3 flights of stairs. The Reception staff and staff in Charlie's Bar were very friendly and helpful.

The attitude of the staff in the breakfast room did not match the other staff. They appeared resentful and not very responsive. I had to ask for a couple of things to be replaced in my room. I also asked for another hair dryer as the one in the room did not work. This never appeared. While my room was fine and good value for money, the room given to my friend was not and she had several problems with it. Also they were a long way from each other, although I had asked for them to be close by.

Loved the setting and the uniqueness of the lake and the fountain. The room was huge and really clean, food was great and staff were amazing. Especially as it was my husbands birthday - the hotel noted and made a fuss. Especially Sophie at dinner. It was a lovely touch.

This isn’t a criticism of the hotel but there was a huge group in the pool on the day we wanted to swim. We couldn’t get in the pool or jacuzzi at all - there were no spare seats and the group had put towels on. So basically we had a sauna and had to leave. Perhaps a booking system limiting numbers and time would help alleviate this problem. It was a shame that this minor point was a disappointment as this was one reason we picked this hotel.

Location was excellent for our brilliant tour around that part of Yorkshire. Hotel was excellent as was the food at both breakfast and dinner. Very pleased with our choice of hotel and no hesitation in recommending it to others !!

There were a number of issues with our room - eg faulty shower head, slow drainage with the basin, TV remote etc. None were "deal breakers" - more annoying than anything else, but they were all resolved very quickly which was impressive.

The evening meal was superb, and the service was brilliant. Our room was pleasant and comfortable. The spa and pool were lovely too. The location was great, and the views around it were beautiful. The staff took a lot of trouble to see that we were well looked after.

Slightly disappointed at breakfast. I noticed that the fresh fruit salad was really fresh, and the menu choice was fine too. The only unpleasant bit was the bacon. It was hard, cold and had white emulsion on it. There were no hand towels in our room, but I think that was just an oversight. When we wanted to charge our evening meal to our room, the waitress said it was no longer allowed. However, we had no debit card with us and it was quite a way to our room. She then spoke to the manager who allowed the charge as a one off. But it seemed strange to me that we were not entitled to charge our meals and drinks to our room automatically.

Everything was beautiful and aesthetic. All staff super lovely though they are all young so i cant imagine they will get the pay they deserve for their hard work. I hope this isn't the case and that they are being payed at least a living wage.

That we werent aware of the pool facilities and it was not shown on my booking so did not prepair constumes so sadly feel our money was slightly wasted as we couldn't enjoy that part of it. Food wasnt as available as i would have liked, you had to pay for small cakes that were served nesr the bar(felt that should have been complimentary). The breakfast was a complete let down. The only thing enjoyed on my plate was my sausages and egg. The bacon tasted very hard and had a funny taste much like the fried bread wich was just completly oil soaked evey bite it was dripping down my face. Not pleasant. And no lovley tinned tomatoes just fresh fried wich i was gutted about. Overall breakfast was disappointing

The hotel is in a great location. Our stay got off to a shaky start as we were told the wrong room number. On our second visit to Reception this error was discovered. The room we had booked was Deluxe and was certainly far superior to the first room. A member of staff helped us move our belongings to the correct room. The room in question was Room 1 and overlooks the lake (lovely as it was a sunny day) and is very spacious with a large bathroom with bath and walk in shower. The on-site swimming pool is very good but if possible visit in the adult only periods otherwise you’ll find a lot of children which make swimming difficult. Charlie’s Bar is good and the food well presented and of good quality.

Obviously the mix up with the original room allocation although it was readily corrected.

really comfortable, room had everything we could need ,really large comfy bed and plenty of space . really pretty surroundings . very efficient staff the whole place ran like clockwork anything you asked for ,from leisure facilities,to bar ,restaurant ,room check in ran with such smoothness it was like 5 star top hotel service .

was surprised about the restaurant,the food was delicious ,great portions and a lot of pride taken in presentation and again 5 star service sitting overlooking a beautiful lake but table ,chairs and lighting like a breakfast room in a 3 star hotel very strange that the hotel owners haven’t made a restaurant to match the rest of the place .

Location, Location, Location! Beautiful surroundings, calm and relaxing.

The room we had was tired to say the least. This is an old building so I expected some age related decor problems that come with maintaining a building of character but the room was tired, minimal attention to maintenance around window frames, bath seals, toilets etc. TV was fitted at a jaunty angle, wires not tidied away. Some staff were lovely but the lady in the breakfast room on our second morning wasn’t very welcoming, we felt like our requests for vegan options were a chore for her.

This idyllic location is perfect for a weekend away, the room was very clean with a view of the island, it was very warm so get the windows open and fan on asap. The facilities are fantastic so after a beautiful walk around the grounds go to the spa and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the pool, jacuzzi and sauna also available! The bar/restaurant area is quite small however there's plenty of outside areas to relax in if the weather is inclement. Food in the Restaurant and Breakfast Rooms was outstanding. What really impressed me was the staff, most of the staff are young, however all where very smart, well mannered and professional Definitely recommend a visit and just to confirm Yes it's hard to believe but it really is just outside Wakefield! Thank you!
