Cantley House Hotel - Wokingham

This hotels provides everything I need to be able to work away from home with my pet in comfort and without hassle. Flora is extremely welcoming and friendly and will sort anything out she can, as will the rest of the team. All staff are very welcoming and accommodating The Garden view rooms are comfortable, a very good size and nicely kept Bar area is welcoming and relaxed with a more formal area further back

TV signal in rooms can be intermittent House keeping need to pay a little poor attention, especially in the bathroom

Our 4th stay here and the 3rd time in room 10! The room has been redecorated which is good, however the only mirror now is by the bathroom door, to dry my hair I had to plug the drier in the other side of the bathroom door and the cord just about reached so I could see what I was doing, however if someone wanted to come out of the bathroom, they may have found it difficult with the cable across the door! It’s a lovely old hotel with lots of character and we enjoy our once a year stay.

Extractor fan was full of dust in the bathroom. Meal in the restaurant was lovely but very expensive, wine was expensive at £28 and it was a screw top! Made to feel awkward when checking out as we could have declined the 12.5% service charge but felt mean if we had said no. Service was good but 12.5%!!!

We had a great upgrade to a superior room. Thank you. Views were great and room clean and bed comfortable

The shower didn't have a non-slip mat and it was slippery. My English cooked breakfast was great, but the buffet was not - it was non-existent. Just cereals and one below par Danish pastry. No croissants either which were all on the menu. My wife was not impressed and £12.50 for a bowl of cereal and a Danish pastry she couldn't eat was definitely not value for money - disappointing.

The single beds were only two foot six inches wide which was small for an adult to be comfortable. Mine also had a missing wheel at the bottom corner which had been "fixed" by shoving a piece of wood under that wasn't quite deep enough causing a tilt. The bathroom shower was in the bath with no grab rails and a very high side which meant my mother couldn't shower. Also they were unable to provide a bath mat for the bottom of the bath upon request.

Spacious room, with comfortable bed. While we didn't make use of it on a cold January day, if we came in the summer the balcony with table and pleasant view would have been a bonus. Staff were helpful and dealt promptly with minor issues that arose.

There were no towels initially provided, although this was quickly corrected when we spoke to reception. Likewise with standard tea bags (although several non-standard varieties were there!), but again not a major issue. Some biscuits in the room would have been a welcome addition.

Lovely large room with direct access to gardens and our own outside table and chairs was fantastic. Setting was lovely. Evening meal included in our stay was delicious and we had a full choice of the normal menu too. Breakfast was also excellent with good quality sausages. All the staff we met were extremely helpful and on checkout when there was a small query on our bill it was sorted and one said nothing is ever a problem and you did feel that. Would definately stay again.

Bed was two singles put together..my side was very comfortable but my partners mattress was slightly higher than mine and he said the bed was very uncomfortable.

The room was a very well proportioned, the bathroom a little narrow and the shower cubicle a little bit small. The Bed was very good, very clean and well prepared. The breakfast was very well prepared with a good choice for all the family, we travelled with 2 children, 6 yrs and 1 yr old.

The Hotel does need a little more attention to details, the windows need to be checked as the wood is beginning to show signs of decay. A few cobwebs were evident, but this did not really detract from our stay. There was a slight mix up with our breakfast time, but this was quickly rectified.

The room was wonderful and being on the ground floor with access to the garden was a real bonus. My husband sat outside reading in the sun before breakfast. He's still a practicing architect and enjoyed the decor and lighting facilities in the room especially the ceiling lights which are not seen very often these days. The two very comfortable armchairs were a real pleasure and the bed was large and also comfortable. Breakfast was great and unlike some hotels they managed to keep a large quantity of fried eggs piping hot. The sausages were well cooked and sometimes we have to avoid them because they are definitely a health hazard through being under cooked. We also enjoyed the evening meal on Saturday which again was fabulous. All staff were extremely kind, helpful and very polite. I know being fairly ancient in our 80's attracts attention but at Cantley House they were especially attentive to everyone. Full marks!

Honestly nothing could have been better! We were not even disturbed by a wedding party as we were warned music would be playing until midnight. It was lovely to see the happy couple and their guests.

For those of you looking for a hotel integrated with nature in this area, this is it. Lovely country walks around the grounds and a park for the kids not far away. Also EV charging available in the car park next door. Away from main roads and the town but within commuting distance to Reading.

No real vegan options in terms of food. At least nothing labelled on their menu as vegan. In 2023 this feels very out of touch.

The room was on the ground floor with a door out into the garden and a small terrace with table and chair. The room was spotlessly clean with tea and coffee making facilities and a good size television. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the free breakfast was very good.

Once you have booked in the small print it warns that there are regular wedding celebrations ( I think this is their major area of business) and there may be noise until midnight. I had no bother but beware! My only other gripe concerned very firm mattress on bed with very little give.
