The staff were very welcoming and helpful upon arrival, even taking our bags up to our room as we were a couple of hours early for check-in. The room was fine, not too small, not too big, & it was clean & tidy. Definite positives were the room temperature, which was just warm enough, and not overbearingly hot, as a lot of places tend to become like blast furnaces as soon as you mention 'Winter', and the bed, which was genuinely comfy. It's unusual to get hotel beds that don't give me back pain, but this one was spot on! The breakfast was decent, just about the right portions to start you off for the day. It's close enough to the city centre that it's only a short walk, but just far enough outside the old city walls to be quiet at night, despite being situated on one of the main roads.
To be fair, we didn't any real issues with any part of our stay!

Stayed here for a long weekend with my mum. We arrived at 1:30PM despite our check-in time not being until 3PM. The lovely lady behind the bar told us that our room was already ready so we were able to take our cases up to our room. The Tavern is absolutely beautiful and the room we stayed in was lovely, very clean and cozy. We had breakfast there in the morning which was absolutley lovely, great price and served so quickly! There is live music on most evenings at the Tavern and I would definitely recommend this place if you like rock/ alternative music especially. Me and my mum are huge classic rock lovers so we were so happy and excited to be treated to some live rock music downstairs at the Tavern on Friday night. You can hear the music playing upstairs in the rooms but in my opinion that makes the stay even more fun, me and my mum were rocking out to it upstairs whilst having a cup of tea!!
I wish I could have stayed longer!!

I work with IT and IT security. The wifi was not the best. I would advise to put a password on it, as the bandwidth clearly became overloaded (to many people connecting). During peak "pub" hours it was impossible to connect even though the signal was there. I read comments saying they had similar issues. I didn't have any functioning mobile during my travels in the UK at all and so I rely on wifi for ALL my communication. It was very frustrating and had I read the comment saying the wifi was bad... I would have chosen another place. Please, look into setting a password and I'm sure your hotel customers will have a better time.

Breakfast excellent, very comfortable bed and a great shower. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Tuesday band was good. Locatiuon very central to York Minster and quite a short walk to shops etc. To walk to the station, come out, turm right and take first left down to the river. Then turn right and go over Scarborough bridge and you come to the station. About a ten minute walk
Tea/coffee etc was not replenished but I feel sure we could have asked if necessary , and towels were not changed, but we did hang them back up so mayve that was why.

Great vibe in the rooms with all amenities.. clean spacious room with bathroom. Lots of plugs, full length mirror, wardrobe space, fan if needed and opening windows.
No shower ! This really lets it down and could be easily fixed by put one over the bath. If I was staying more than 1 night this would of been an issue. Music was suppose to stop at 11pm downstairs, but it continued until 1:00am. There was a lock-in due to being bank holiday and we didn’t get in until 12, but the music definitely didn’t need to be that loud.

I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the room at the Bootham Tavern. With it being a pub we were unsure what to expect, but we just needed a bed for the night and the Staff and breakfast could not be faulted. The location was excellent to access the central part of York and there is a longstay car park close by (Mary Gate) which costs £15 for 24 hours which I thought was reasonable. Would definitely stay again

The staff were fantastic so helpful and friendly, the room was great lovely decorated and comfortable beds. The pub was in a great location so near to the York City walls, York Minster and the centre of York. The pub has great entertainment in the evenings to finish the night off. Would definitely stay there again.
This is not a negative comment one bit, the only thing i could say is that the shower in our room was on a raised plinth (possibly newly done) and was difficult to get in as it was a bath/shower combined. Could of used either a step or the plinth coming out more.

Great location right next to the wall 2 mins walk to the Main Street. Staff were so friendly and the breakfast was lovely freshly cooked service with a smile. The pub itself is big and beautifully decorated. They had a singer on Saturday night so it was good after a long day of walking just to sit and have a drink then straight up stairs to bed. Would definitely stay again. Lovely room clean comfy bed smallish room but we were only there to sleep. Would recommend for a stay there when staying in York.
Could do with a net in the room as we had to keep closing the curtains to get changed in the room but nothing else at all.

We stayed for a couple of nights here recently and used this pub with rooms as our base for exploring this lovely city. We arrived by car and parked behind the pub in a municipal car park - £ 3 for an overnight stay from 18:00 until 08:00 the next morning. We then moved the car to another municipal car park for the next 27 hours or so for £15. We signed in and picked up our keys at the bar. I had the York Castle room on the 1st floor. The double bed was comfortable and I got 2 good nights sleep with no outside noise. There was a flat screen TV and a kettle for making tea/coffee/cocoa. The WiFi worked OK and there were enough plugs for all the electronics the modern traveler needs nowadays. Breakfast was down in the bar each morning. Your have a choice of juices and cereals and then a full English breakfast including the essential black pudding. And all the tea and coffee you can drink. We obviously had to try out the drinking at the bar in the evenings. There is a good range of beers. And we appreciated the central location of this tavern - just outside the old city walls and within a stones throw of the York Minster and all the other lovely things that this city has to offer. Finally, service was always done with a smile. Much appreciated! And thoroughly recommended.
The stairs are quite steep and narrow and my room comprised a longish, corridor leading to the room with a decent double bed, small desk and chair. The mini shower room and separate washroom/toilet were off the little corridor. There wasn't much room to swing the proverbial cat...

The location just outside the City walls is exceptional. Less than a five minute walk to The Minster. The breakfast available was very good and all staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The Castle room wasn’t massive but comfortable. No draws for clothes but a rack for hangers. If we were being picky there wasn’t enough shampoos and no soap. I realise we probably could have asked for more but it’s a simple thing to keep topped up. My wife said that the room needed an additional mirror. Unless you want to pay the premium rate for staying within the city walls The Bootham Tavern is a very good choice. Would stay again.
Lack of shampoos and soap. Needed another mirror. Nowhere to store clothes apart from hangers.
