The Inn at Thorn Hill

I was very upset by the way the spa was handled. I emailed Adrienne back in March to get a couples massage for my husband and I for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The day of I get an email saying they didn’t have any technicians for our couples massage and offered to go to the sister location 3 minutes up the street, I called and tried to make an appointment for both of us. They only could get one technician, and then offered for us to go back to back appointments. I ended up not getting a massage the point of it was for both of us to get it together, if they offer services they need people to work. I don’t want anyone else to feel the way I did. I didn’t let it ruin my time but I was very disappointed that this happened.

It is a gorgeous old Inn with a large wraparound porch in the Jackson area of the White Mountains. Our room was spacious, with a wonderful view and spa bathtub. We had tea (Bourbon Vanilla Camomile, delicious!) with honey and homemade cookies as part of the nightly room turndown service. The staff were super friendly and gave good advice for seeing the area as well as a terrific laundromat nearby. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the full service restaurant as well as a lighter fare dinner meal in the tavern adjacent to the restaurant. We also had drinks in the tavern. The Mount Washington Cog Railway base station is only a 44 minute (34 mile) drive from the Inn. The Jackson covered bridge (Honeymoon Bridge) is one of the entrances into Jackson from Pinkham Notch Rd (NH 16) - so very cool! Also, Jackson Falls on the Wildcat River is a 3 minute drive from the Inn.

The dinner meal portions were large, particularly the entrees. We could easily have shared a single entree if we had been made aware of the portion sizes, or just limited our meal selections to the generous soup and salad (which were delicious). Although we were given a takeout box of the uneaten entrees, it was not practical for us.

High quality breakfast in a nice dining room overlooking nature. Several, cook to order, egg choices, including eggs Benedict, or pancakes, oatmeal. Delicious fresh fruit (melon, strawberries, blueberries, banana.) Full service restaurant with friendly, polite, cheery servers. All included in our stay. Really wonderful! The dinner menu is fabulous. Obviously a talented chef. 5 stars! Our room was clean and spacious with a huge Jacuzzi. The manager went out of her way to deliver a dessert to our room when my daughter called to request it for my husband's birthday. It was gourmet and delicious! And she even typed up a birthday note from her to him. Above and beyond kindness! My husband was so surprised. We loved our mini-break birthday stay!

The only thing that wasn't clear in the advertising was if they had cross country ski rentals or snow shoes on site. They don't- but you can walk or drive down the street to a cross country ski center to rent there. If you bring your own, there is a trail that starts right on site. I wish they had snow shoes available to rent from the inn. That would be a nice addition to this already amazing Inn!

Included breakfast is a big winner. Everything we had was tasty and the service during breakfast with Dave and crew...exceptional! On a clear day you can see Mt. Washington while eating breakfast on the porch. We had a mediterranean platter and every bite was mouth watering! The inn is in a superb location close to many hiking trails, shopping, tourist attractions. The people at the Inn make the experience...we were here last year and almost everyone is still there...that says a lot these days! Highly recommend!

Wonderful, cozy, clean, charming, well-located inn. Everyone working there was so friendly and accommodating from the front desk to the guy who served us breakfast. Bartender James is great and really knows his way around mixed drinks and the liquor is top shelf. Would definitely recommend overall and hope to go back!

Hotel was really awesome. Unfortunately, dinner was overpriced/food was just okay (I had the vegetarian noodle entree and it was not so good). Next time will likely go over to North Conway for dinner. Breakfast was very good though!

Let's start with the good things: a hotel designed in a completely different way from the other road hotels we've been to in New England. Located in a magical forest, with a warning of bears roaming around :) You feel like you're stepping into a dream and actually into a home that hosts you and not really, into a hotel. Parking is close and convenient. The receptionist who received with us, and poured us nafha wine, was intelligent and welcoming and we had a great conversation with her. She also handed out at 21 o'clock to each room a lovely tray of tea and homemade cookies. A wonderful surprise! Breakfast, unlike other hotels, was out of menu in a lovely restaurant, something that was special and different. The whole atmosphere in the hotel is magical, you feel in a fairy tale. The room is relatively small, but the shower is huge and has a spotlessly clean jacuzzi, with wonderful, high quality shower products. There is also special and romantic lighting. Everything is very special. Both the hotel surroundings and the forest it is located in the morning, were amazing.

Unfortunately, the bed was very narrow and the mattress was so uncomfortable that we had to wake up multiple times at night from discomfort. This is the main thing that bothered us and damaged the so special experience of this hotel. A wider bed and a new, comfortable mattress would have allowed us to give the hotel an excellent rating. Hope the owners read this and make the necessary correction. In addition, it should be noted that this hotel cost almost twice as much as the other hotels we stayed in, and this is not the case

Location is great. Food overall was great with a few mistakes. Service was outstanding and the follow-up on items needing to be fixed was wonderful. The wine list was surprisingly good for a small hotel, great variety with good European wine inclusions. Great Breakfast! The staff truly care about the service delivery. We felt appreciated and welcome. Great tea service at night.

A few mistakes were done on our food orders, but the follow-up to correct was wonderful. No lunch was served. Elevator was a little scary.

From the minute we entered the Inn it was fabulous, beginning with Nancy at the front desk who was delightful, all of our wait staff Rebecca, Nicole, hostesses, and Chef Dave exceptional, and not to forget the cleaning folks, all fabulous! Each going out of their way to accommodate my husband's special dietary requirements. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, and it couldn't have been more memorable by spending it at the Inn.

No complaints

Absolutely everything!! The location was perfect. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. They all seemed to enjoy working there. Our room was wonderful and clean. Every possible need was anticipated and met. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and service was fast. I have a gluten allergy and they were very a accommodating. The little details made the experience exceed our expectations. There was a hand written note on our arrival with homemade truffles. Tea/coffee and cookies were available all day in the Tavern and there was late night tea and cookie service brought to your room. We look forward to returning and are considering at least a yearly visit if not multiple visits in the different seasons.

There was nothing about this property to dislike.

The suites here were unexpectedly large; you could spend all your time in your room. But then you would miss out on the opportunity to relax around the property, which is carefully designed for just that. Dining, lounge, and porch area with early morning and sunset views were our favorites.

Spa is staffed by independent contractors, and when we tried to make appointments none of them accepted the times that showed as available. We thought we were booked via the online system, but received last minute cancellation notices. This changed our plans unexpectedly since the spa also only accepted advance reservations.
