Holiday Inn Alexandria at Carlyle, an IHG Hotel

The hotel is located in a 10 floor-building with quite large rooms. I had a room on the 10th floor with two queen size beds. My bed was comfortable, but slightly short (I am more than 1.90 m tall). But I find that normal ... it happens all the times. The room was clean, the hosekeeping service was efficient and worked fine. One day I left my room very late in the morning (almost afternoon) and the room was cleaned up anyway, even outside typical housekeeping hours. In the room there was a microwave, a boiler for water, and a coffee machine with capsules, re-supplied every day. There was a restaurant open for all meals but I did not try it (no specific reason for that). The hotel had a swimming pool (closed in winter time) and a minimal fitness center (enough for basic cardio workout). The hotel is conveniently located at walk distance from the BLUE line (Eisenhower Avenue station), and the METROBUS bus stops of REX and NH2. You have also a highway right there (but I cannot say too much of that since I moved with public transportation only). You have a supermarket (Wegmans) a couple of blocks far from the hotel, too. Starbucks and a grill restaurant are in front of it. At night hours, the area is not populated but it is safe to move around. If you want to reach Alexandria old town, the hotel is somehow far from it. You can take more than 30-40 minutes by walk or you can take the bus. If you want to reach Washington downtown, Dulles airport or Ronald Regan Airport the Blue line is there and it can bring to you either the Silver line (for Dulles) or directly to Washington. I found the staff is very friendly.

There are only a couple of minimal things. The covered swimming pool was closed (winter time). But the hotel clearly stated that on its website and also via message after my reservation. So, it was not a surprise and I am not complaining about that. Sometimes during the night I could hear some noise coming from the venting and heating system. Nothing really disturbing, though. In general I could not find anything really disappointing. I was satisfied of my choice.

The staff is excellent. From top to bottom. Check in is very smooth housekeeping is very attentive (we moved a chair to get a better view of the t.v, it was just as clean behind the chair as it was in the rest of the room.! We needed a shower chair and within 5 minutes of me calling the front desk, they were at our room door with it. They have a restaurant/bar and the staff is excellent there as well. The breakfast is really good and they give you plenty, the selection has something for everyone. I believe a good ran business is a direct reflection of the management. Najoua Sdiri is manager at this location. You can tell she cares about her guest, her job and her people by the way this Holiday Inn is ran.

The hotel was clean throughout. Hotel pools can sometimes be left uncared for, but this one was clean, warm, large, and had ample pool towels (it also had a lifeguard on duty). The breakfast was delicious. The breakfast is part of a bistro restaurant in the hotel so make sure your reservation lists breakfast included if you want it free (you will be given a voucher for up to $15 if your reservation includes breakfast). The front desk staff were kind and helpful.

Be mindful that if you are not an IHG member, they will charge you a $15 parking fee per vehicle per day. I personally think this is unnecessary. They are not in a downtown area and have plenty of on-site parking. We were able to get it waived with the IHG membership, but still...

The hotel is better than I expected. Clean, nice pool with a lifeguard on duty, fitness center. The bar/lounge, business center and restaurant are all nice spaces to hang. The room was just right, with a coffee maker, ice bucket, cups for hot and cold and a selection of keurig. The lobby has a selection of snacks you can purchase. It would be nice if they had a few electronic items like chargers or ear buds on hand for purchase, but CVS is just across the street. I did not see any bugs in my room- this is important! The metro is just across the street.

The fridge was unplugged. I plugged it in and realized it rumbled and vibrated so loud it was intolerable. I did not report it to the lobby, because I didn't REALLY need the fridge. I am sure they would have helped me out. The hotel is surrounded by the highways and there is also air traffic noise. This cannot be avoided. The hotel doesn't have a great pedestrian connection to cross the street, be careful.

affordable, clean, close to airport, grocery store and CVS and Starbucks across the street

if you’re a first time visitor to Washington DC, maybe more advantageous to stay somewhere where you’re within walking distance of sights and nightlife. lots of things close early in Alexandria. we were there for a wedding so it fit our needs. but we did a lot of ubering to get around which is fine and still convenient, but definitely factor in cost of Ubers to get around. it is close to the metro, but that station was shut down during our stay.

Our room was never visited by housekeeping during or three-night stay. We kept it clean and made due with our very comfortable king-size bed being unmade after the first night, but we did miss getting our supply of coffee, toilet paper replenished.

I have been there for over a month trying to find an appointment the staff was so nice and friendly and greeted me every morning with a smile as well as in the evening when I return from work. House keeping was so understanding that I requested no room cleaning, when I did request it they were so will to stop what they were doing to provide me with the service.

just the lighting in the parking look is to dark and there were times when I return late and alone and had to park far from the entrance.

The inside of the hotel was clean and well lit. The staff were accommodating and friendly.

The back entrance was locked at 10 p.m. (which is understandable for safety reasons) but I did not feel quiet comfortable coming in after hours and having to walk around the building in the dark. I think guest that have keys should have access to come in or put the security guard at the back door instead of the front door.
