1. Breakfast far exceeded the normal B&B reakfast experience! This was both regarding quality, range of choice, and speed and attentiveness of service. 2. The bed was very comfortable. 3. The location is splendid. 4. The reception was friendly and helpful. 5. Onsite parking was appreciated.
1. The darkish wall colours and the very large numbers of hanging paintings, tapestries etc., along with fairly low wattage lighting, gave the hall and bedroom quite a sombre ambience. 2. The fridge was good, but there was no freezer either in our room fridge or in the upstairs lounge fridge, and we had an esky with some fresh produce but were not able to freeze the ice bricks overnight.

I have a liking for older architecture, furniture, etc. so this stay was a treat! So beautifully brought back to a magical era, the owners know what they’re doing and are respectful of their lovely house. Short walk down town to great pub food. The breakfast menu is impressive and the food delicious.
Not really a criticism…. I booked a room with a river view, which our room did not have…. but I did not make a fuss as our room was lovely and was on the ground floor which meant no struggling up stairs with luggage, so not really a minus.

The breakfast was amazing. One of the owners takes great pleasure in prepairing food, and the breakfast did not dissapoint, and both owners were very attentive, and enjoyed conversation during same. I would recomend this guest house on the breakfast alone.
Nothing not to like. The accomodation and facilities were clearly communicated on ony search engine, and you new what you were booking. The fact is, that our expectations were exceeded due to the attention to detail during the renovation of this period home by the lovely owners.

Walking into this wonderful Victorian-era property filled with breathtaking Antiques, tapestries & paintings gives an amazing experience of bygone days, taking a step back in time. Paul was very welcoming and graceful the moment we entered the foyer and guided us to our beautiful room filled with stunning timber furnishings, fireplace and elegant decor. We enjoyed the afternoon in the garden & fresh air. The front porch and garden is a perfect spot to sit, read and ponder and enjoy the afternoon sun. We had a very relaxing and peaceful nights sleep and the breakfast was “cooked to perfection” quoted by my husband, who loves a good meal in the morning. It was a very comfortable stay. Thank you.

If you like period style accommodation, this is for you. It's a grand & historic home which has been renovated by previous owners, and now the new owners are adding their personal touch to it. Our room was huge with a big, comfy bed & an ensuite. We only stayed one night, so we weren't able to take advantage of relaxing in the comfortable lounge room or taking in the garden at the front of the house. Breakfast was included. The menu was plentiful with a choice of continental style or cooked items.
The only drawback for some people could be having to carry luggage up & down the staircase, but assistance was offered by the host.

Brendan and Paul were so lovely; they made our stay even better. From a wonderful cooked breakfast, made to order, to the free port and sherry in the guest lounge, to the large supremely comfortable king bed and the great balcony overlooking Devonport, to the friendliness of our hosts (Brendan going above and beyond by giving us a lift to our dinner reservation at Mrs Jones), it was a perfect stay!
Nothing, everything was great!!

Attention to detail, staying at the Grand on Macfie was an excellent tonic to recover from 12 hours on the ferry. We arrived and we were immediately captured by the grandeur of this gorgeous property. I spent time viewing all the decor, every item was a delight. The bed is so comfy and space to move around and the bathroom was very clean and well equipped with towels and toiletries. We heard no noise from other guests or from the street. Breakfast was a feast, your choice of extras with your eggs. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in the decor and service
Nothing, we are still talking fondly of our one night here at the Grand on Macfie

Beautiful place to stay. Didn’t feel like a hotel it felt like staying in a stately home in England amongst all of the antique furnishings and the four poster bed. The cooked breakfast is inclusive and was delicious. Our host was very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay. We also loved the balcony, the view from our room was also fantastic. We easily walked to find a meal in the evening and the convenience of getting to the Spirit of Tasmania was great. It was the best way to end our adventure by staying in such a lovely place.
The bathroom was a little small but considering the heritage of the building this is to be expected. The large room size more than made up for the cosy bathroom.

Looking for somewhere to stay in Devonport? Don't go past The Grande on Macfie. Beautiful big Victorian house, furnished impeccably with period furniture. Gorgeous, warm, quiet bedrooms - this is not a 'cookie-cutter' fit-out of rooms- each is different and just as beautiful as the others. Just minutes from the ferry terminal, it's easy to get to. Breakfast is included and is fabulous!Multiple choices on the menu, great coffee. Paul and Brendan, the hosts, are lovely - they are very accommodating, extremely helpful and lovely, kind souls. I don't think they know how much assistance they provided to us,- they met us at the ferry terminal, booked a beautiful local restaurant for dinner, drove us there and then to the airport the next day and responded to all my pre-arrival emails quickly, making organising the trip so much easier. Best value for money for accommodation I have had in a very long time.

The personal touch and great to hear some history of the building and surrounding area. Our hosts were fantastic, and we will definitely recommend the Grand on Macfie to our friends. The hosts went out of their way to provide breakfast prior to boarding the Ferry even with 4 groups to cater for. The accommodation was meticulously furnished in the period style and well priced. A memorable stay.
Can't think of any negatives.
