Location was stunning with good bus links. The western style rooms were spotlessly clean and huge in Japanese terms with plenty of bottled water and tea, replenished daily. Staff were extremely polite and very helpful, even holding luggage after checkout as we had an evening flight. The local area was very quiet, the Temple was beautiful, I would recommend the hotel to anyone looking to stay in Kyoto.
Not really a dislike but…..Breakfast was a traditional nutritious Japanese meal, which was delicious and plentiful but could do with an explanation as how to eat (and which order) for western travellers.

this is a beautiful location. close to many temples, the main streets, the river, and the Nishiki market....truly a heavenly spot...parks, ponds, mountainside..... the hotel itself offers Japanese-style rooms as well as Western...we opted for the Japanese-type room and it was lovely. The option to attend services in the early morning is wonderful. The staff are wonderful, helpful, and friendly. There is an onsite restaurant, gift store, food trucks, and cafe....truly a one of a one-of-a-kind place...so so happy to have been at a conference that was held there and so was introduced to this magical place
the wifi was struggling a bit because of some construction in some areas of the hotel, but honestly...not a huge deal at all..everything else was so impressive...

Wow, what an amazing experience it was to stay here! The staff were super friendly and helpful and made all the information really clear, with leaflets to explain things like how to make the futon and how to use the baths. We stayed in a traditional Japanese tatami-floor room with futons and we attended the early-morning Buddhist service. We also loved walking around the park next to the temple as the sun went down, and using the hot bath. These were all such special experiences. We also had a Japanese breakfast in the restaurant (rice, miso soup, pickles, etc) which was unusual for us as Europeans but again, a brilliant experience. We had assumed that the breakfast would be vegan because of it being a Buddhist temple, but that was not the case. However, when we explained that we don’t eat animal products, they quickly swapped a few things for plant-based options without any issues.
If you’re looking for a ‘normal’ hotel, this is not for you. Check in times are limited to a relatively narrow window and there is an 11pm curfew. However, we were looking for something different and were happy to plan around the time constraints (we even welcomed the excuse for a rest), so we loved staying there for one night.

Loved this place. Nice people working here are fabulous breakfast. Nice very neat onsen. Do join them for the sunrise buddhist ceremony at the temple. It is an experience. Lovely aesthetic of the place. Super location.
It was hard to find a place to eat locally here. We spent an hour walking around with so many places expensive or full or booked. We ate at a lovely Indian restaurant nearby and it took us an hour to get our order! I wish I had booked a meal here - it would have added to the relaxation of the stay. That was my big mistake. Learn from us.

We spent 3 nights. The check in was very easy. They were quick to point out the curfew of 11;00 PM. This did not affect my wife and I as we tended to be early to bed. We did not try the dinner or breakfast as my wife is a fussy eater and I could give better options among the many restaurants available with in 5 minutes walk. I enjoyed their public bath. Had more of a feels spa than feels onsen. Rooms were the biggest of the trip. 7 days in Tokyo only gave us a very small tiny room. We could not believe how much space and storage was available to use. In my opinion this hotel provides excellent accommodation at a very reasonable price. If i were traveling alone I would choose the meal plan as I love everything they would be serving. Next time. The front desk were exceptionally patient and helpful throughout our short stay. When they saw how much luggage we were trying take to the onsen. He ran two blocks to find a cab that was working. The taxi company was'nt answering their phone becasue of the snow. Incredibly honest. I left money in the yukata that they provide for your onsen experience. When my wife and returned, I found my yukata neatly folded and placed on the bed. The 2000 yen that i left in a pocket. In the morning guests are invited to observe a Buddhist ceremony. We would have loved to attend but were too exhausted to awake that early. Front desk told us to turn off the speakers if we did not wish to attend. Wake up starts at 5:30 and the ceremony starts at 6:15 if this is something. that interests you,. Highly recommend to people who are self directed tourists, couples, value seekers.

The lobby attendants were the absolute best~ So kind, patient, and courteous! Make sure you get up to go to a service, it is unparalleled. The bath was a delight, I used it every day. The facilities for the conference were outstanding and the environment is quiet, relaxing and truly a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Not at all they were so great!

The Hotel is so beautiful, with breathtaking surroundings and many famouse shrines around. It truly offers unforgettable memories, including the charming back streets and everything else. You can opt for meditation at 4:45 AM. The staff are all super helpful, and the place exudes a zen atmosphere. The rooms are very simple and minimalistic in Japanese style.

This property is 10 times better than the pictures represent. Staff is absolutely unbelievable. The grounds are impeccable as well as the rooms. We could’ve stayed here our entire two weeks, but had no idea this would be so perfect. I highly recommend for anyone also, although the rooms are typical tatami style, the hotel is very modern. Reviews nor pictures do this justice.

Very good location, close to many of the major tourist attractions. Very peaceful and quiet environment, in the forest and next to the temple. Have convenience store nearby, around 5 mins walk, facilities very good. Morning session in the temple is a very nice experience. Public bath is not big but clean and comfortable
