We absolutely love the location of Sierra Resort it's quietly nestled in the forest away from the crowds. The option of booking the private onsens to share as a couple is special and keeps us coming back. The staff go above and beyond in helping with dinner bookings, ski shuttle information and room cleanliness. The in-house breakfast and dining I'd excellent.

This year the ski shuttle seemed to be limited, and highly recommend hiring a car if you like the freedom of getting around early.

We stayed here 10 years ago and came back cause Sierra is a well run resort with nice rooms, helpful staff and we love the indoor and outdoor onsen experience.

Although location in the forrest is pretty (with views of the mountains), the shuttle to ski fields and into Hakuba wasn’t as frequent and flexible as the first time we stayed. The ski shuttle bus to and from Hakuba47 and Happo-one was very crowded and slow. Sierra restaurant was amazing but for dining at local Hakuba restaurants it’s important to make reservations in advance given shuttle service only covers the train station and bus terminal areas which tend to get busy.

Onsen/ hot spring is one of the best in Hakuba. Breakfast is standard buffet style like most Japanese ski resorts decent selection but same every day. Hotel has complementary wine and snacks between 4pm and 9pm in the lounge and complementary green curry and miso soup at the hotel entrance at other times. Nice after returning from the mountain.

In previous seasons the hotel ran shuttle busses to Echoland, Happone, etc. So you could get around without using Taxis, etc. This is essential as the hotel is a little remote in terms of proximity to restaurants, bars, chair lifts. So the shuttle service was great. For some reason 23/24 season its no longer offered,

Rooms: We had the Executive Suite which had a living room and bedroom and a tub on the balcony too facing the courtyard. It was spacious for a family of 4. I think the living room had two sofa couches, but because we have little kids we didn't use it. It was on the East wing which seems like the larger rooms on that side. Everything was clean and in good condition. There was an air room filter and heat control. Also heated floors in the bathroom sink area which we used to dry our snow clothes and gloves. Our toilet had a lid which opened automatically and flushed automatically. The best toilet! At least in my wing of the building it was quiet. I hardly heard any noise outside, through the walls or outside my door. I think I didn't visit during a busy time, but non-the-less the rooms seem pretty sound proof. They refresh your room everyday and replace the water bottles, towels, toiletries and yukata. I saw staff cleaning the outside of room windows so it seems they work hard to keep the rooms clean. The hotel's general appearance is older and some things like the hallway carpet needs updating. Also the private onsens don't have a bathing area and that needed repair. The public onsen is nicer than the private ones. Service: All the staff is nice and helpful if you ask questions. The staff at the breakfast buffet are a bit sleepy and the younger generation, but hey. . .I'd be like that too if I had to wake up early and work late. I think the staff were the same ones during dinner. So they must have some kind of split shift. The country has a more laid back feel, so unlike in Tokyo where they have a lot of staff meandering around, the staff here are more in the background. Of course if you need something, they are always around to ask questions and there are always people at the front desk to welcome incoming people. Location: Its not easy to get to and from the ski hills if you're using all the different shuttle busses.

Shuttles that run more often because unless you have a car you can't get around very easily.

I am not generally one to review locations I stay in, but Hotel Sierra was unreal! The staff, the breakfast, the facilities were all amazing. I would like to thank Suzuki (front desk) and Big Bear (bus driver) for all of the help from the day we arrived to the day we checked out. The Ski shop rental worker was also great, he was happy to swap my snowboard to skis, then back to a snow board all within 3 days (due to an injury) The staff members here are the definition of great customer service 🙏🏼 A few things that these staff members helped out with that would normally not be of interest to other hotels/staff: - I had left my laptop on a bus on the way to Hakuba. The staff contacted and located my laptop, then picked it up for me. I had it back in less than 24 hours!!! - Travels can be hard around Hakuba without a car. The staff drove me, then collected me from a doctors clinic after getting X-rays on a injured shoulder. - Adjusting drop off pick up times around Hakuba to suit our needs. almost like a personal valet 😂 - Dropping me off to a second resort, then within 4 hours re-booking me back in Hotel Sierra due to a horrible experience at a Glamping Resort. Thank you to the staff at Hotel Sierra for the amazing experience.

what’s not to like! gorgeous property, roomy lodging. the onsen’s are amazing. the free snacks after skiing, the free wine in the evening, the dinner at the restaurant was heavenly. we were so spoiled! it was amazing being able to rent skis from the property. and the shuttle service was amazing. we hardly had to think of a thing! wish we could go back right now. also, we don’t have kids but we were so impressed with how they accommodate for families - kids utensils at breakfast, video games in the hang out area, even a kids toilet seat in the bathrooms!

I will say the shuttle schedule they tell you about for drop off and pick up wasn’t really the schedule they followed. you pretty much had to arrange each time you needed the shuttle. but really not a problem, they are super quick to respond to phone calls if you need a pickup.

The staff, especially Mayu is exceptional. She knows her stuff and is very helpful. There are services and food offered free. The coffee milk after onsen is very welcomed. You can take free shuttle to town for food if you do not want to eat in hotel. There is ski rental onsite. You need not go elsewhere to rent ski. The hotel is a bus stop for the hakuba valley shuttle. Very convenient to go to the aki slopes even if you do not drive.

Nothing.

Beautiful location and resort. Breakfast was good with lots of variety to choose from. The onsens were amazing.

Food options. Main restaurant seems to be fully booked each time we asked for a reservation. Nobody told us about the new Chinese restaurant. Wasn't always easy to get a taxi to take us downtown and even then, restaurants are fully booked.

the location, the facilities, the excellent staff especially Mr James from Canada!

it would be helpful if the front desk staff could speak English a bit better but it’s not a problem at all. also, if the breakfast could change a little. the menu was same and it got so boring after eating the same food all the time.

Excellent for skiers. Great level of hospitality. Perfectly renovated rooms

A bit lack of the communication with the stuff (English still needs to be improved). Location is good but city taxi is very expensive and, unfortunately, the charter bus is not available any more
