My favourite stay in Japan! The owners are lovely, accommodating and really make you feel at home! Thank you :) Highlights; - Owners are the best! They helped us organise food, transport, ski passes, and a missing wallet aha! - Location is super convenient right next to happo bus terminal - easy to get to and from the different resorts, close to food and rentals - Traditional style Ryokan accommodation was such a delight and the onsen was perfect after a day on snow I will absolutely be returning here :) Thanks so much for having us!!!

Staying at Ski-kan has been the best experience for me of all my various stays in Japan because of the landlady, Ms Takako! She was super helpful, went out of her way multiple times to help me get around - made me feel like i was staying with a relative instead of renting a place. Oh, and she kept surprising me with snacks which were so beautiful and delicious that I thought they were bought off some artisanal stores, until she told me that they're made by her! I will certainly book any lodging that is run by her without hesitation. She made my visit to Hakuba very memorable! Thank you, Ms Takako!

Location; free shuttle to skifield 20 metres from front door. But it’s also only a 10minute nearly flat walk to the Nakayima lift. The accomodation itself is great, more traditional Japanese which we like. Very comfortable, doesn’t do breaky but has dinning room available for doing your own. At end of day the host provides a warm snack for everybody. And there is a good onsen in the property. Also booked restaurants for us and then drove us to the ones a little further away and picked us up too. And on our last day skiing I damaged my ankle and couldn’t really walk, we left the next day and they drove us to the bus terminal ( only 100m away) because they didn’t want me walking.

- Takako SAN!!!!!! The owner/proprietor of Ski kan is the reason why the phrases "salt of the earth", Takako san is genuine, kind and cares about her guests. When I injured my knee, she did her best to make sure I was alright and offered me extra treats as I could be up the mountain haha, much much appreciated from your Australian son :) - Location is perfect. In central Hakuba village, right next to Woody snow hire (japanese owned and where you can get a 20% discount if you tell them you're staying at ski kan, the bus stop 'Mount' is right outside where shuttle buses will regularly ferry you from the Happo Bus terminal all the way to Sakka and Nakiyama and the Gondola among others. - This also means it's a short walk to restaurants or you can simple order off a menu that the front desk has available - The front lobby area has all the information you need as a visitor, from bus/train timetables and a live screen showing the various snow conditions around the mountains. - The accomodation is a pure old school style Japanese ryokan and it is truly authentic, if you're used to some rubbish Private Equity owned joint that is trying to swallow up the rest of Hakuba, then this is the true experience you need. - Takako san prepares afternoon snacks for guests when they return from a day on the snow - The onsen is large and spacious - The rooms were clean and easily warmed up by heater. - The common areas were large and used often to either relax while waiting for the bus outside of the cold or dining either at lunch or dinner. - When you first arrive your luggage wheels will be cleaned. - This is one of the best places to stay in Hakuba (and i've stayed in several different places including the soul less private equity joints that want to turn Hakuba into a soul less US style resort)

Nothing... except the other guests.... saw one bloke walk barefoot out of the shared toilets and into his room... mate... if you're reading this, you need Jesus in your life. So please learn the difference between the indoor, outdoor and bathroom slippers.

It’s near the Happo bus terminal and just 12 minutes walk to the Happo gondola. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. They advised great restaurants with reasonable prices. What impressed me most was that their indoor hot springs. They are well maintained with good ventilation and quality spring water. It saved me time and money to try nearby onsen. Also, there is a Lawson convenience store in walking distance.

I was bothered by a mosquito during the night but it might be due to the hot weather at this time of summer.

Affordable, simple, family accommodation in traditional rooms with tatami flooring and sliding screens, communal dining facilities, basement for ski storage, affordable coin operated washer and dryer. Just a 2 minute walk from Hakuba bus terminal and 1 min to the Happo One ski shuttle bus! Amazing 20% (I think) discount on the ski hire at Woody Rentals (who were fantastic) right across the road when mentioning Ski Kan. And discount on lift passes if obtaining cards from Ski Kan and charging them up online for your daily lift tickets, so convenient! Lovely, spacious, warm rooms with one having a fridge, low table and sofa. The hot onsen was perfect after a day of skiing, such a normal luxury we love about skiing in Japan unlike the rest of the ski world! But what we most liked about Ski Kan was the friendly, caring, welcoming hospitality of Takako and her son Kuni who went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. They made sure you had dinner sorted and Kuni would kindly drive us to Hakuba station and take us to a local Japanese restaurant that was not crowded, was super affordable and delicious without the pretentions of a tourist trap. As a family of 5 we ate to our hearts’ content and drank including sake and beer for AUD85! Kuni then arranged the restaurant to call him to collect us. Amazing service! He’d then drop us at the local Lawson convenient store to pick up some supplies/snacks and we’d walk the short distance home. Takako was amazing when I asked if we could get dressed in the traditional Japanese kimonos and mens formal wear which I didn’t realise was so complicated and time consuming for Takako who was just so amazing accommodating us. It was such a special opportunity that we will cherish but I felt terrible as it took about an hour to dress us all and so much effort for her with the careful dress arranging. We were so grateful for this special occasion.

The shared public onsen and shared toilets were clean but obviously not private ensuites which is always the preference but believe there might be options for that in other rooms. Sleeping on the floor futon/shikibuton was ok, but not super comfortable and hard on the knees with everything being so low like the bedroom table and even sofa. The front bedroom is on street level and bright with street lights and cars at night and the chatter of passers by and a bit colder being at the street front but the middle room was lovely. The one washer and dryer gets very busy in the evenings and with operating time restrictions can be tricky but managed to dry the rest in the ample hanging space in our bedroom.

Takakako is a very caring and attentive host - she keeps Ski-Kan spotlessly clean and is always willing to help with anything you need. I am gluten-free and she worked hard to find the right local restaurants for us - and the ones she booked for us were fabulous! As a bonus, her son Kuni is often available to drop you off to the restaurant. Takakako saved us by asking a carefully worded questions about our travel - helping us to find out that we had made a mistake about the pick-up location - whew!

best location in Hukuba Village if you like to go through most ski resorts in Hukuba. (i.e. in the middle of all resorts) Ski-kan is situated very close to the Bus Terminal of Happo One, say 1 min. walking distance, Definitely the best choice for you can travel around all resorts via Bus, And the best restaurants and onsen are mostly in Happo One Area. The hotel is run by an elegant lady, very considerate, attention to details and care about her customers, Be noted to seek her advice in choosing restaurants in every night of your stay, she is the best to help you to choose the best restaurants in this region. Worthy for money, I will come back to Ski-kan in the near future.

Owner was very endearing. Had snacks ready after a day on the slopes. Futon was a bit too stiff, but I was able to get another layer to reach my comfort level. Having a kotatsu in house was a nice touch. Having access to an onsen on property also made recovery after day on slopes worth it. Drying room for ski equipment was welcomed. Speaking of slopes, Happo One is a 10 ish minute walk. Very doable even with all equipment on. Woody the nearby ski rental shop also nice.

Stairs to said drying area a bit steep. Just be careful when traversing. Otherwise not too much else. Futon can be a bit stiff.

Hosts are just utterly incredible and welcoming. They were eager to look out for us and make sure we knew where to go/what to do and even offered lifts for guests. The rooms and lounge are very comfortable and the communal bathroom and onsen are very clean.

I'm not super used to sleeping on a Japanese futon so keep that in mind if you're used to a thicker mattress, but the rooms are very comfortable.
