The Guest House Japan in Hakuba is an amazing place to stay! The owners, Koji and Chikako, are incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is great - it's close to the ski slopes, restaurants, and shops. The breakfast was delicious, and the in-house baths were a great way to relax after a long day of skiing. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hakuba.

The room was basic. Although the common area and the dinning room are spacious and functional, but it would have been nice to a small desk and chair in the room.

I have never stayed anywhere as brilliant as The Guest House Japan Hakuba. We were in the family loft style room as a group of friends and there is so much room compared to other places we stayed in Japan. Koji, one of the owners, picked us up from the bus station when we arrived and dropped us back at the end of our stay so we didn't have to carry luggage anywhere. The guest house also drives you to and from the ski resorts daily! It's incredibly clean and cozy, with a large common area to catch up with other travellers. We made so many friends here. The bathrooms are large, with hot baths available all day until 10pm (better than an onsen). The breakfast each morning was delicious with many hot and cold options, I especially loved the tea selection. Hot drinks were available anytime. The staff were spectacular, could not find a better place if you tried. Close to Happo One town and the owners will offer to book you dinner at the best places each night.

Our stay (my kids and I) at the Guest House Hakuba was wonderful. Chikako, Koji and the team are some of the nicest people I have ever met, and we truly felt part of the family. We were very sad to leave. The Guest House is a family style lodge nestled near the bottom of the Happo slope. Breakfast is served each morning and guests are able to choose which mountain they would like to ski and then either Koji or Jake provides a lift. I have done ski-in/ski-out at Hakuba in the past, but the Guest House is better because you can choose which hill you'd like to ski each day and you don't have to fight everyone else for the shuttle busses. When you're done skiing, you text Koji, and he comes and picks you up. We never waited longer than 10 minutes. The Guest House has minimal dinner options in the building, so we asked Chikako and Koji to make restaurant reservations each night. We ate the best food Hakuba has to offer (local places we never would have known about / been able to get a reservation at), and Koji drove us there and picked us up each time. During the trip, my son had ski accident and twisted his knee. This is obviously quite stressful in a foreign country. Koji and Chikako were immediately there to help. They took us to the medical centre, helped us navigate the system, and then when my son was stuck inside for the remainder of the trip, they drove him to meet us for lunch each day. I honestly don't know what we would have done without their help! We also enjoyed interacting with the other guests and families, including an epic Monopoly session in the dining room one night. Thank you Chikako and Koji for a wonderful stay and making us part of your family! We will definitely be back!

Other than being clean and welcoming like many Japanese hotels, Koji and Chisako, the founders of the guest house, provided the most heart-warming service we’ve encountered during our travel experience of dozens of countries. It’s an Asian tribute to the old-school European concierge service with a local touch. They waited and picked us up at late night during the snow when it’s actually walking distance, helped together calling restaurant one-by-one to find an eatery still open, drive us to the ski slope every day, help call to book restaurants (we ate out every night which added much burden) and even drove us to the restaurants and picked up at late night, which was not included in the supposedly hotel service. When you list everything it doesn’t seem like a big deal but as a traveler in the Hakuba village it’s the most attentive and helpful service you can imagine. It felt like a host family. We’d definitely return when we come back to ski again.

It’s the best we can think of. We were worried about the shared bathroom before, but the facility is so clean and never busy, and the downstairs bath basically serves as an onsen, which is heavenly for people coming back from skiing.

The property is really clean and very comfortable. It’s so close to restaurants, convenient store and the Hakuba bus station. The most I like is the owner of the property treated us like the family or I think more than family. They picked up and dropped us from and to the bis station, showed the restaurant, and dropped and pickup us to ski resort. The owner, Chikako san helped us to find Ski school for our children who experienced snow for the first time. The other co owner, Koji san even helped us to talk to Ski school that didn’t speak good English. We will definitely come back again.

An incredible experience! Koji and Chicago go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The complimentary shuttle service to ski resorts and around town is a game-changer. They'll even take you for food or an Onsen, ensuring personalized care from 7 am to 9:30 pm, making night skiing a breeze. Exceptional hosts, highly recommended! Unbelievable value! Paying for a shared room but experiencing five-star hotel service. It is a hidden gem where comfort meets affordability. Highly impressed!

Everything was perfect!

This is the most warm and homely place. Even my own house feels cold and uninviting now that I have stayed in the Guest House. The Guest House is without a doubt the best place I’ve stayed in my life and I wish Koji and Chikako were my real parents. Jake and Anna were amazing friends and made sure we were well looked after despite our best efforts to blunder our way through the week. Couldn’t recommend staying here more!!

Nothing, it was heaven on a hatstand.

Koji and Chikako are heaven sent to make the world a happier place - nothing was too much trouble, picking up from every ski field, helping with questions, best onsen, great restaurant recommendations. Very friendly guesthouse made for inclusion of all guests if you wanted. You could walk to the ski lifts (a bit far in ski boots) but the guesthouse has a dedicated van driver who takes/pick up anywhere. Ski hire drop off and pick up at the end was a good bonus. Good breakfast Rooms cozy and warm, shared bathroom areas never busy, plenty of room. Big hot bath next to ski locker very nice. Good internet service in rooms and lounge area. What more can i say, the best of the best

Amazing accomodation in the heart of Hakuba! Chikako and Koji and all the other staff were incredibly kind, warm and provided the ultimate hospitality, making us feel so relaxed. Walking distance from restaurants and shops. Drop off/pick up from the slopes, station and restaurants was an absolute game changer! No mucking around with the shuttles. Plus the hot bath after a long day on the slopes was also super nice.

Nothing - everything was perfect!

The guest house is spacious and very well maintained. The futon in the dormitory was comfortable and warm. The hosts Koji and Chikako as well as all the staffs were super welcoming and kind. I have accidentally injured myself on my first day and they perform above and beyond to make my stay still enjoyable. The location is also good, walkable distance to Happo One as well as town and restaurants.
