Boutique Hotel Charmante was a perfect choice for my impulsive travel to Bergen, Norway. Normally, I would plan for months to make a trip to Norway from my home in Chicago. Especially so, since my mother's family all came from Norway. Mine was a seven-night stay at the hotel, which became a home base to explore, on foot, Bergen's many charms. The location is a quiet street close to the harbor, museums, shops, bakeries, restaurants, and famous tourist sites. The hotel is French themed from menu to décor to selected music available to its beautifully appointed rooms for dining and guest accommodations. Each course of menu selection is a delightfully new experience in taste, texture, and presentation. Naturally, the wines, desserts, and cheese tray choices are knowledgeably offered to enhance a full dining experience. The king Crab starter was a favorite, a must try, if you are able. Each person on staff that I encountered, from the Hotel Manager to the men and women providing hotel and dining service, showed careful interest in my preferences as well as my personal interests in visiting Bergen. I am truly grateful to them for an exceptionally wonderful week.
Everything was exceptionally good.

Amazing location, beautiful hotel. The room was absolutely fabulous. Everything was A+ Would highly recommend
There was low level music playing all night in the room. There was an internal music system and control box which i prehaps should have explored more but I couldn't seem to turn it off. It didn't detract from how amazing the actual hotel was

This was our first time staying at the Charmante in Bergen, and we weren’t sure what to expect. From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcomed by the staff—everyone was exceptionally helpful and friendly at all times. Our room was spacious, cosy, and very comfortable. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a charming French-inspired ambiance. There is also a large separate bar area with a coffee machine, perfect for relaxing and unwinding—an amazing feature. Breakfast was another highlight. We ordered à la carte, and everything was freshly prepared to perfection. The pastries and bread, which are shipped in from Normandy, were a delightful touch. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Bergen, offering easy access to the city's charming streets, shops, and attractions. It is also very close to the harbour and the historic part of the city. We will definitely return the next time we’re in Bergen!

The interior design is unique and well thought out, making the experience very different. Breakfast was not buffet style but was of high quality and unlimited. Staff were friendly. Location is superb. Very clean - shower was impeccably clean.
The wifi often had issues and sometimes during my stay it was down or if it was operational then I couldn't always connect to it. There is no gym and they do not offer gym passes to a local gym either - many boutique hotels I have stayed at offer this if they don't have a gym. Curtains in the room could do a better job of blocking out the light at night.

Great staff. They are personable, knowledgeable and eager to be helpful. The rooms and the decor of the entire hotel and their associated restaurants are uniquely decorated. Looking at the photos on the internet I wondered if maybe it was over the top but they make it work. The bed was super comfortable, bathroom shower is small but has great water pressure, lighting fixtures are modern, the wifi never failed. The breakfasts are heavy continental, not big American breakfasts, and that’s fine with me. We will be back!
The high tech lighting system includes a low nighttime setting that turned off all the bathroom lights on me about one minute after I jumped into the shower. That was awkward! Fortunately I bring a nightlight when traveling (thanks to an aging bladder…) and that saved me.

The hotel is very different from the run-of-the-mill chain-type hotels. Charming and quaint. It has a very cosy & warm decor making one feel cheerful. Location is great and allows access to many important venues and sites you'd be visiting in Bergen.
The breakfast options were very few and did not cater very well to vegetarians. The price was too high for the service and choices given - perhaps because Norway is expensive. Service standards were very mediocre, esp. at the restaurant and front office. Housekeeping staff were excellent!

The staff service was excellent...Friendly and accommodating when we were served breakfast items.. special mention of cafe staff Tomasz who served our breakfast items so diligently. Also front desk staff Joyce who helped print out a map and gave us directions to walk to the light rail stop that goes straight to the airport. The deco of the rooms and all areas of the Hotel, including the inhouse piped music transports one to believe you are in France, and not Norway..Is ok for me because I paid one price, but gets two different environments in one visit ;-) Room is big and with seating sofas/table.
Room is accessible by going down three steps of stairs once you enter thro room door. Not friendly for physically challenged guests. Bedside lamps cannot be dimmed...Once the lights at the bedside are switched off, the whole room is dark..really inconvenient to walk to bathroom midway thro the night without turning on lights that disturbed spouse's sleep.

Wonderful Hotel, perfect location in a lively street but the luxurious bedroom was very quiet. Few minutes from the harbour and town centre ,5 min from tram 1 station which comes from the airport and 10 minutes to the train station The breakfast was delicious. Love the decoration of the hotel and room with a French vibe. The hotel has a restaurant on site with also tables in the street and an extra bar across the street to have drinks. The bed was really comfy and the room full of cute objects and had a bar. I would love to say there again!
Just a few suggestion: It could be good to add a phone, safe, bin in the room and some more toiletries like tissues for example. Because of the restaurant that is also the entrance of the hotel, lots of people from the restaurant coming and going at the first floor also so a safe is a must. and also it was hard sometimes to find someone available to ask questions about activities or booking so we used mainly the visitor centre or researched on our phone. Also the breakfast is only 7.30 to 9.30 so too late for early morning trip top the fjord and impossible to sleep late also. 7 to 10.30 would be so much better.(however it seems we could have asked for packed breakfast but we didn't know).

Everything about this hotel is exceptional. The attention to detail in terms of the decor and every aspect of customer service is like nothing I have experienced anywhere in the world. The moment you walk into the hotel, you feel at home and the staff make you feel instantly welcomed. The food served in the hotel restaurant is outstanding - its almost difficult to leave the hotel to explore the city, however it is so easy to do this as the hotel is perfectly located for exploring the waterfront and the city centre.

Absolutely delightful gem of a hotel, made by converting some original old terraced houses. The decor is resplendent, very over the top, so not how I’d decorate my own home, but it was a visual feast. The bedroom was superb: two small sofas, a very comfortable bed, sophisticated muted lighting and music on stream, the most wonderfully stocked in-room fridge I’ve ever seen (including whole bottles of wine, including Tattinger). Great service at breakfast and in the Parisian French bistro in the evening.
Nothing. Although the bedrooms do not have TVs or full length mirrors, which some people might miss.
