Great hotel, awesome central location, friendly staff, great team on reception (face to face).
Phones - Difficult to get through on the phone, tried calling a few times before arrival but no answer, and also internally, no answer when dialed zero on an occasion. Breakfast - terrible experience at breakfast 2 mornings in a row. They lost my order! Others arrived after me & got their food within 10 minutes. Both mornings I had to ask for my food 2-3 times and it took 25+ minutes both mornings. On the 2nd morning the waitress decided to argue with me about when I asked her to follow up a 2nd time after 20 minutes. Terrible attitude. Shame as the hotel staff generally were really nice otherwise, just the breakfast team lets the side down.

Lovely atmosphere . Great free soft drinks cabinet and proper milk to make tea. Lovely breakfast- really nice and great staff. Allowed an early check in. Easy parking which was secure. Bed was a good size( De-Luxe room). Room was very clean nicely presented. Complimentary wine- as was my wedding stay- was a nice touch. Nice high ceilings to room.
Some works underway at the property. Had to ask for room slippers. The receptionist was a bit frosty at first. You could hear upstairs snoring and walking about. ( It’s an old building). Fan to bathroom did not work and one light bulb in the room was out. ( This should be checked before the room is handed over surely?). Traffic noise mildly annoying at night.

The best hotel stay I’ve ever had. We had the most wonderful stay and would highly recommend! The hotel is dreamy, with the most gorgeous Christmas decorations as you enter. The reception staff were lovely and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We got to check in early as our room was ready. The room was stunning. Extremely comfy bed and amazing pillows, so a wonderful night’s sleep. Complimentary drinks in the mini bar. Tea and coffee selection was brilliant, coffee machine as well as cafetière. Bathroom had everything you needed and was spotlessly clean. The bar downstairs was fantastic, barman was knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was great. The breakfast was delicious, a wonderful selection. Fresh coffee, Continental, and variety of hot breakfast options too. The breakfast room was beautiful, with gentle classical music so it was a restful start to the day. The location is fantastic, just a couple of minutes walk to the shops and the centre of town. The car park is a good size, and we had no trouble finding a space. The parking rate was very reasonable too. The hotel has so much history, and it marries this well with contemporary facilities and luxurious furnishings. In all, this is a stunning hotel, with huge amounts of history, where every little detail has been thought of, and the service was impeccable. The staff were so friendly, extremely helpful, and we felt very looked after. We’ve stayed at a few places in Cheltenham before, but this was by far the best. We will very much be staying here again, and can’t wait to go back!

Great location, spacious room, elegant
Main thing: aircon was ineffective (which could be a problem in summer). Cleaners missed some biscuit crumbs on bathroom floor (i.e., didn't clean thoroughly/properly); standalone fan didn't work - but they did replace it quickly. Parking was limited with people hovering to nab spaces when anyone left. Receptionist was rather brusque when we arrived - there was a function going on (presumably using up a lot of the parking spaces) and my wife asked when it would be ending, to get idea when we could move our car into a space; receptionist replied "this afternoon"; my wife asked "when this afternoon?"; receptionist repeated "this afternoon" and that was it.

Location is the best you can get right in the center and everything is quickly reachable, very nice area. The hotel itself is historic and beautiful. Beds are very compfy, the bathrooms are clean and equipped with everything you need. Toiletries are good quality and they have everything you need. Breakfast is delicious and elaborate. Coffee in the room is very nice.
Rooms are way too hot, I thought we booked a bigger room, got a small one with not a nice view at the back, parking and breakfast are separate. Parking is £15/day and Breakfast is £20/person. I thought both were included. Bar closes early, before 11, room service has no spirits and the mini bar only stocks water and milk.

A very well positioned hotel for exploring Cheltenham. Comfortable, clean and a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant meals were fabulous and the staff were brilliant. Two ladies in particular went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. I’m afraid I didn’t get their names.
I find it difficult to find fault. If pushed, I guess it would have been nice to have a bit of a view as our windows were opaque as there was just another wall opposite but someone has to have that room! It didn’t really impact our stay as we didn’t really spend much time in the room.

Staff were friendly and helpful and even when things didn't go exactly to plan they made a difference. Car park was easy to access and contained an electric car charging point, and even though one side failed to work the other was fine. Dining room is really good and the food too. Location can't be faulted. Will probably book again. Can't say fairer than that.
Radiator in the room had a faulty valve so didn't work but there was an electric heater we could plug in so that got us over the problem. Room was so large you needed good eye sight to see the TV. The bathroom on the other hand was surprisingly small but very well appointed, might just be inadequate to some.

The restaurant and food were excellent. The evening meal we had was delicious and the breakfasts were very good too. I must mention the restaurant staff, all were so professional and smart. Unfortunately one man’s name I did not get but he went above and beyond at breakfast. So impressed. Also Jack on reception treated us on our arrival like we were old friends and showed a lot of interest about our visit. Hotel location also fantastic.
Room was far too small and quite dark. Our view was overlooking scaffolding and other windows (appreciate that can’t be helped). I felt very chlostrophbic. One light (of two) in bathroom did not work and shower did not drain properly, therefore water was flooding all over the floor. As the hotel is very old this could not be helped but the squeaky floorboards in the room above were very annoying, particularly as the occupants upstairs seemed to be walking around all night! Two nights of no sleep. Having to pay £15.00 per night to park our car seemed a bit excessive, but there was lots of parking and it was fairly secure which was good.

Very comfortable and well-appointed large room, with the room staff doing a good job. The en-suite (especially the shower facilities) were excellent and well serviced. The view over the park was very appealing. I especially liked having the capitals (the tops) of the hotel's Corinthian columns outside my windows. These were also floodlit (from below) at night and looked superb. There was no light intrusion with the curtains closed. Good parking facilities.
Another chair or two would have been useful, together with a few more bathroom hooks/rails for towels etc. The air-con was a little noisy but not too intrusive. None of these comments, though, were enough to alter my ratings.

Room - well equipped but over a busy outside bar area so there was noise overspill Breakfast - nice to have food freshly cooked rather than hot buffet Location - great for getting round Cheltenham Car parking - sad that this is charged extra for guests - but no issue with finding a space as parking in Cheltenham appears to be an issue Staff - on arrival were absolutely excellent and went above and beyond to talk through possible route for walking round town. Staff met in corridors e.g. cleaning team were exceptionally polite and friendly
Even though there is secondary double glazing noise from outside does filter through. Insulation between floors is also an issue as every movement of folks in room above can be heard - especially when they get up in the night.
