The White Hart was a good location for us, visiting family in Chepstow and exploring the Forest of Dean/Wye Valley. Our room was a good size and the bathroom unexpectedly large. It was extremely hot during our visit but the window to the room was open when we arrived and thoughtfully a tower fan had been provided (and was much needed and used!). The only downsides to the room were no hanging spaces at all (no wardrobe/clothes rail only hooks on the back of the door but no coat hangers), a kettle too big to easily be filled from the bathroom tap, no hooks or towel rails in the bathroom and no extractor fan or ability to open the bathroom window. So nothing major at all and we managed comfortably for the 4 nights we were there. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the food and bar excellent value for money. The outside of the property really doesn't reflect the lovely inside.
Really it was only the lack of hanging facilities for clothes that let the room down and that's hardly a major point. Plenty of drawer space.

Firstly, staff very friendly and helpful as were the other customers in the bar. I had a steak for my evening meal which was superb and it was all I could do to finish it, given the quantity of food on my plate. The following morning I had a full English which again was superb and huge. Full marks for food. The room was a good size, with a nice en-suite which was very clean. Also, lots of nice little touches like the serviettes in the dining room being sealed with a little sticker saying made with love. Very nice.
The stairs leading up to the bedrooms are pretty steep and the lights don’t always work on the lower flight I found. There was plenty of cupboards in my room but no where that i could see to hang clothes I.e no wardrobe or hanging area.

The room and the bathroom were a nice size. The bed was comfortable. The meals in the bar were made from good quality ingredients and when having steak it was cooked exactly as requested. The breakfast selection was good and we always found something to set us up for the day. The bar and food prices were very reasonable and as already said the food portions were more than enough. The staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. The location meant that going out and about was easy. This made our holiday that bit more special as we could visit so many places.
Nothing was a problem.

The staff are friendly and the pub is totally dog friendly, the location is great and the food was lovely. I love that they accept dogs in the rooms and the bar and restaurant. The walks in the forest of Dean are close and fantastic. The rooms are great (although a bit too hot for me) they have everything you need and are done out very well. I would highly recommend this pub for a stay and food.
There was a 30th birthday party during our stay and it was under our bedroom and quite loud and didn't finish till 11pm, it took a long time to be served (although they were busy) so even though they said to stay at our table and they would be over it was quicker to go to the bar ourselves.

Travelling for work, so looking for a good priced room with good food. Room was lovely and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food at the pub is amazing. Enormous portions, well cooked and at exceptionally good prices.
Just on a personal note, skylight could not be opened and I like a little fresh air. From the outside, the pub looks grubby but then we all know we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. These are personal points, however, one point for the pub to note leaving a broken fan in the room is not ideal. Throw it out!

Absolutely great little pub with rooms. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was outstanding, couldn't fault the food even though items were unavailable, choice was good, great value and portions massive! Drinks again were great, good selection and good prices. There is a tiny but though. We arrived, yes, we understand a little earlier than planned due to a sudden change in our schedule. We introduced ourselves and were checked in , payment taken and shown to our room. Our room was smashing, nice size, comfortable bed, great carpets, bathroom great size, superb shower, tea and coffee, lovely and warm. This is where the but comes in. The TV wasn't working. So tried to tune in channels, no luck. We decided to grab a bite and a drink as we were traveling since 3 am. Mentioned the TV to the Landlady who said someone would have a look We ate, can't say how good the food was enough, if you are passing stop and see for yourself, had a couple of drinks then decided to venture to the nearest town for a walk to walk off the massive portions! Returning at 4ish the TV still wasn't working which was a little frustrating as there was a function on the evening and all we wanted to do was shower and sleep and use the telly to counteract the noise from the bar, which from experience and reading past reviews could be considerable Returned to the bar to ask, and was told 'we're a little busy, someone will have a look when they can", ok, waited another 90 mins, still nothing, so back to the bar. The barman was shocked and came up 10 mins later to rectify the problem. 2 TVs and still no signal, we were then left without a TV Usually, this would not be a problem. But, as we have said, sleep was calling and we we're both ready to heed the call , the music started. Usually we would have used our phones that play some film or music but I he WiFi was also not playing ball! The music came to an end around 12 so sleep was had...
Think we've covered that already!

Room was basic but bed was wonderful and comfy. Bathroom was really nice. Staff were very friendly.
Breakfast between 7 and 8. Far too early. We gathered it was family run and school runs were important. They did change it to 8.30 for us but we were away to relax, not get up early for breakfast. Might be an idea to charge less and give room only with breakfast being an extra charge. We didn't get up for breakfast on the second day. Personally I would think breakfast should go up to 10 am which I don't think is unreasonable.

I was in the area to attend a wedding so I was only staying 2 nights. This is an old pub in good condition. What was provided was what I wanted; it was a basic room, the facilities that were provided were very good. There was a good TV in the room with a large chest of draws for clothes. There was an en-suite bathroom with a modern shower. The large bed was comfortable. The tea/coffee making facilities had ample supplies of tea, coffee milk etc and a large electric kettle. There was a hand towel and a bath towel each for 2 people. There was good parking space. I was expecting to be eat plenty at the wedding so I didn't require a breakfast. My first night I ordered a meal in the pub. The food is basic pub grub but with a good selection and catering for smaller meals sandwiches etc as well as full meals and desserts. I had the gammon which came with 2 eggs, mushrooms, a large grilled tomato, onion rings and french fries; it was a substantial meal and you are unlikely to go hungry. Charmagne was serving behind the bar when I arrived but led me up to my room, the following day she checked whether I needed anything else e.g. more tea/coffee supplies.
If you wanted to nit pick, there was no wardrobe so if you had clothes you wanted to hang up it could be an issue. To get to the room you had to go up a flight of stairs; it is an old pub there is no lift. I really can't think of any more negatives.
