This quirky 14th century inn has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with warm and friendly staff ( where nothing was too much trouble). Our room was clean & comfortable with a wonderful stamp of history. Everything from Toiletries to tea and coffee provided were of good quality, and replenished daily. Housekeepers were lovely and left rooms beautiful each day. All staff appeared very relaxed and happy 😊 Everyone made our little miniature dachshund very welcome even though she was aware of every guest in the building and insisted on letting everyone know ☺️. Breakfast choices were good , the full English was excellent , our dog enjoyed her sausage 🐾🐶 Location was Brilliant for boat trips and the steam train and within a comfortable walking distance to everything.
The car ferry operates very close by , a tad noisy but finishes by 11 pm so doesn’t disturb sleep 😴 Everything else perfect 😊

Breakfast and room drinks excellent. Decor of Bayards very pleasing and suited building. Bed excellent, bedding too. Housekeeping girls excellent and room spotless. Hotel was in excellent position near ferry, shops and castle. Hotel near to many other eating places and pubs which we used every day. We were very lucky to get a parking place directly outside Bayards for the duration of our stay and walked everywhere. The quirky characterful building dating back to the 1400's had many charms.
Evening meal was disappointing at Bayards - slowly cooked duck with seasonal vegetables was one small leg with red cabbage (hardly "seasonal vegetables" not cooked in sauce with a small square of dauphinoise potatoes; price was exorbitant for this meal as it was. Have had far better duck meals elsewhere; it was a let down. Bathroom in Beatty room was badly designed, ie one single small glass shelf over sink (awkward for washing), towel rail difficult over toilet (towels would not fit on it), no small towel rail for hand towel and no cabinet for toiletries. We could hear people in next door very clearly at night, and loud, in bed. We wondered whether this was why hotel had provided ear plugs in the bedroom.

Steeped in history and in a great quayside location we loved the food and accommodation and attitude of the staff. we wanted something a little different and came up trumps. A morning dip at the quayside is a great way to start the day.
Don't get hung up over parking - there are a number of options and it would be a shame to miss out on a good hotel experience for the sake fo a short walk.

We loved the Inn. They were so accommodating of our dog, our kids had a separate bunk bed room with lots of DvDs that kept them busy. They provided the best tea and coffee making facilities I have ever seen. With a cafetière and fresh coffee, mince pies and biscuits! The food was excellent and they had a great kids menu. We will definitely be coming again. The whole family and the dog had a brilliant time.
We went out for a drink one evening in the town and by the time we got back the inn had closed up. We didn’t know that our key allowed us into a side door so we spent quite a lot of time wondering how we would get in. A very small thing, but it would’ve been handy if they let us know that our door key let us in the side door in case they had closed up before we got home.

All the staff were friendly, which made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. A lovely atmosphere, breakfast was amazing! We like the fact that it was an old property with history, it was popular with others, regulars coming for coffee and cake along with newcomers, gave the place a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. This is due to the service that is given by the staff.
The fact that there was no allocated parking. Although with the date of the property and the location, I would not trade parking over the lovely time we had. I enjoyed wandering the streets and browsing the many lovely shops and eateries that Dartmouth has to offer.

The room was fabulous - very quaint and comfortable. Staff were wonderful and really made us feel as if they wanted us there and so friendly yet professional. Food was great, we had dinner in the restaurant one night and breakfasts were excellent (especially the sausages!) with batista quality coffees. Nice touch on checkout - we got given a goody bag with a bottle of water and a packet of local fudge.
The only bad thing was the lack of parking, and this isn't the fault of the hotel - we were very lucky on the first night and got one of the only free spots almost right outside. But after that we couldn't even find anywhere to pay to stay overnight; even the main car park in the square was 4 hours max! We eventually found Market Square which was unlimited and free! But this was about a 10-minute walk from the hotel (not a problem for us but if it had been raining or had we been infirm, then it would have been a big issue)

Breakfast and location were fantastic. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Unfortunately due to the location of our room being at the front of the property as we requested a sea view we were able to hear all the noise from the restaurant below ie talking, music and front door opening. But the most noise came from the kitchen which was located next to our room on the first floor. This started about 8am until 9pm. The food was sent to the lower level by means of a dumb waiter, this was very noisy and you could hear the kitchen staff talking very easily.

Loved how quirky the building and room was. Lots of space in the room, super comfy bed, central location, very friendly staff, scrummy breakfast, had all the ‘little things’ (lovely smelling shower gel/hand wash, ear plugs, fully stocked tea/coffee station, face towels, postcard, pen, etc).
No central parking in Dartmouth for long periods (ie overnight), the kitchen was right next to our room and you could hear/feel the microwave whilst in the bathroom, could be noisy as above dining room and open window with street noise but did not bother us (and see above for ear plugs!)

Breakfast was very good with plenty of hot and cold food to choose from. The breakfast service was very good with very friendly helpful staff. Dinner was also very good and when we did have a problem with an undercooked burger, it was replaced quickly without question. The staff at dinner service were also very helpful and friendly. The inn is very conveniently located very close to lower ferry and easy walking distance to shops, pubs and cafes/restaurants.
Our room No6 (Fisher) was clean and comfortable, but it has an inconvenient step running through it, which is a bit of a problem. It was pointed out to us when we were shown to the room. The room is also fairly noisy from what we assumed was the refrigeration plant/extractor fans on the roof out side the window. These pieces of equipment are also the only view. This is obviously a recognised problem, as earplugs are provided in the room. Room 6 is overpriced. After April parking is restricted/difficult in Dartmouth and there is no dedicated parking area for the inn.

Excellent breakfast. Exceptionally good, friendly staff. Very old building but it has been very well renovated whilst keeping bagfuls of character. Nice little touches like fresh flowers on the tables and fresh bottles of water in the room every day.
Some noise in our bedroom at the front from the Dartmouth to Kingswear ferry, but it’s very convenient to hop on to the ferry. Quite steep stairs for people with mobility problems.
