Fabulous old building. We had a double room with an en suite. The Room was a pleasant surprise and was large and pleasantly decorated. It was clean and comfortable. Towels, kettle, tea and coffee included. Communal kitchen 1 flight down stairs with fridge and cooking facilities. Staff kept our luggage safe after checkout until we wanted to leave Dundee. Very central to town. The hotel prices in Dundee were very high for our stay and we nearly missed visiting it altogether so the backpackers was a great surprise for the price.
Windows don't shut fully as old and fail to keep outside noise out. Our room backed on to a pub but the noise was over by 11. Disturbed one morning at 5 am as Macdonald's restaurant had a delivery, but the hostel itself was quiet at night. Be aware that the old stone spiral staircase is hard to lug luggage up if you are at the top.

I had a single room this time. The first time was a dorm. Excellent clean rooms with comfy beds in both quarters , I'm 44, so if top bunk it's slightly harder to get in and out! Lovely public rooms , comfy reading room, tv lounge with 100's of DVD's. And a games room with pool table! Incredibly close to all attractions in Dundee, the hostel is across the road from Caird Hall. Only a short walk to V&A , Discovery ,DCA, Rep Theatre, Verdant works is about 20mins by foot.
Not a huge problem but shower was on the colder side to warm, however I only tried the one on my landing, others might have been better.

En-suite Shower room was very convenient. The bed was comfortable and the addition of a table and chairs was very useful for me to conduct basic laptop work. The lockers were a very generous size - I was able to store both a backpack and a holdall. The building was of historic value and the stone stair case added to ambiance. Rooms were carpeted and central heating was excellent.
I can't actually think of a negative about my stay. I was on the second floor but not a problem, even for my medical condition. There was only one thing to note and that was a bit of a leak in the reception area (Scotland had suffered from Storm Babet) but it was minor.

Very central, on the high st in Dundee (watch out for the small entrance, we walked past it). Good value for money, as Dundee is expensive. Kettle and tea and coffee in room. No food, but Henry's Coffee Lounge opposite and the Gidi Grill opposite is highly recommended. Good for visiting the V & A, waterfront and Discovery.
Our room was up several flights of stairs, but we did ask for a double room with private room, so not surprising, and the view was nice from the window.

First time ever staying in a hostel & I seen good things being said about this particular hostel, so I decided to book a room. I managed to get a private room with my own bathroom for a respectable price. I liked it so much that I requested if I could extend for another night. I preferably wanted another single room & they luckily had one with a shared bathroom which was really great & for a good price aswell. All staff members I encountered were very friendly & accommodating to me. I will definitely stay at this hostel again when I travel & plan to stay overnight in Dundee.
There wasn't really anything I didn't like. I would prefer the checkout time to be a bit later, so I don't feel rushed but I understand that's the policy. The only thing which I can only think of which I didn't feel comfortable with was the Reading Room in the morning, as I checked out at 10am & the staff member said I could stay till 12am which was fine by me but when I entered the room, there was a couple of people sleeping in there throughout the room which wasn't ideal, as it looked like they were sleeping there during the night but I could be wrong. So I just decided to leave after checking out.

the other people at the hostel were great, sociable and also the kitchen was well equipped. the bathroom was good, and the rooms were comfortable although I found that the small lockers didn't lock even if you locked it with your lock, the handle still just turned open
besides seeing one person at two separate times at the front desk I saw no staff anywhere, and usually the reception desk was empty. the notice on the fridge saying stealing food results in immediate eviction is harsh, but understandable, except the sign is only on the staff fridge not the other three fridges so it sounds like they mean if you steal food from the (seemingly scarce) staff you'll be chucked out but if you take it from other travellers that's fine. also they don't even offer breakfast or anything or any evening activities like movie nights or beer pong.

The perfect place for backpackers to stay, but also other guests. Because this is a very social hostel. It is easy to meet and chat with other travellers, and people will start talking to you and make contact. Old building with stairs up to the rooms, but everything is cozy and clean. Check out the games room, it is BIG!
Nothing to complain about really. Only that the staff, consisting of more than ten people, constantly were in the small kitchen and cooking their own food. So it was very crowded the most of the day. Also beware: The space between bottom bunk bed and the top one is very close. You might have maybe 50 cm upwards when you rise from bed before you knock your head in the top bunk!

always my first choice when in Dundee for work. in the city center, close to public transport, in a historic building with lots of character. affordable price. wifi ok.
messy and dirty kitchen, but it's due to the other guests careless behaviour, not the hostel staff. actually the kitchen is clean top to bottom every early morning... then the kids get in and mess it up big time. a little more maintenance in the common areas would be nice.

Really well located in Dundee. 8min away from the train station, which gives you access to so many other places on the Aberdeenshire coast and Fife. We had a lot of space in our room, which was great because we all had loads of hiking stuff. I absolutely loved the reading room, the historic part of the building and the fact that we could read about it on the information panel in every room.
Because it is right in the town centre, it was noisy at night due to the people in the streets. The space to cook was also a bit small, which was fine but not on peak time. For example, more than 4 people in the kitchen made the cooking harder.

Location, comfy bed,, hot showers and well equipped kitchen. There’s also a reading room, tv and games room. Security is good with keycard access.
Fridge space limited, kitchen reasonably keen but users not always cleaning up after themselves. Heavy, noisy doors and squeaky floors but not surprising in such an old building. It’s an interesting rabbit warren, possibly difficult if you have a problem with stairs.
