Room price included continental price. For £7.50 pp you could purchase an excellent, locally sourced full English breakfast. Pub was lovely, parts dated from 1440. Large choice of meals, very generously sized. Lovely, very welcoming staff. All rooms were in an annex apart from the hotel and all on ground floor level. The room we had had a walk in en suite wet room.

Our room had an internal door to the room next door which could be opened for families. You could hear some TV noise in the evening through this door, but once we'd all gone to bed we didn't hear a single noise.

The staff were very kind and lovely, location was great, the actual pub is really cute! The bed was comfortable too and the room had good tea and coffee making facilities. If you’re on a budget then it’s perfect 👍 very happy with our stay

The only slight down side was that the walls were quite thin in our bedroom so we could hear our neighbours and I’m sure they could hear us! Maybe it was only our bedroom that had that issue..? Other than that, I’ve a great little place to lay your head down for a night.

It was in a quiet local with in reach to the wedding venue we went to. Plenty of parking. Food is very good large portions. Lovely view over fields. Rooms are basic but functional for what we needed. Rooms are compact clearly the old stable block. Well stocked with tea, coffee, milk, sugar. Would stay again.

Need to upgrade the pillows they are flat pancakes. If having a shower you need to block the bottom of the bathroom door other wise the water comes out of the bathroom.

Nicola was so supportive and helpful. We had a great meal there. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The shower was good too. Good car parking facility. Very reasonable price. Location was suitable for us as we ere attending a wedding close by. As the weather was really hot, they had plenty of seating outside. They even provided a fan, albeit a small one, for our room.

I wasn’t too happy with the mattress. And water collected in the bathroom after a shower and didn’t drain off even after 12 hours. A chest of drawers, even a small would have been useful, especially if guests stay for longer than 2 nights.

The breakfast exceeded expectations. It was included as continental but the fruit platter was exceptional. The staff were helpful and accomodating. The food at the pub was very tasty except the salty soup which was taken off the bill. There was a good range of meals to choose from and reasonably priced. Large portions. Bring your appetite. The room had a very welcome fan.

We needed to get to bed early and were woken by a late night dog walker with irritating squeaky toy( around 11pm)and some party goers ( around 1pm). the wet room shower got very wet when showering!

We had booked The Black Bull Inn so we could visit friends and family who lived nearby. Beautiful location in the heart of the Essex county-side. Although we did not have the cooked breakfast, the continental breakfast was good value for money. The landlady was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We stayed at the Black Bull three individual times during our two weeks stay in Essex and I fully recommend this establishment if you want a lovely and peaceful stay,

I booked in here as I had to attend my dads funeral in the next village of Ongar. The hotel/pub is quick and swt in a beautiful location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food at the pub is excellent great value for money. The breakfast is so good value too. I liked it that much i booked an extra night without any issues. I will be returning at least twice a year and hopefully they will have a room for me here. Highly recommended

The host was very friendly and welcoming. She took a natural interest in why we were staying and how the event that we were attending went. The breakfast was great. A lovely cooked breakfast which was very welcome and tasty. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Good value for money.

The bed was a little hard but nothing to complain about.

Pleasant and friendly staff when i checked in. Had a swift half pint of Doom Bar, before i had to leave to walk to the Queens Head Bus stop to catch my bus to take me to chelmsford for The Dualers and Special Guests music festival. Got a taxi back to Black Bull Inn after midnight. Had my cooked breakfast on the sunday morning before i checked out. Nice room for a solo guest, bed was comfortable. Ensuite toilet + shower . And a very reasonable price aswell.

lovely old pub with lots of charm and separate annex containing rooms. nice outdoor grassed seating area and medium sized cat park. friendly staff who looked after myself wonderfully. price was reasonable and food was lovely and would definitely stay again.

nothing really but slightly dated bathroom but room was well decorated so not really an issue.
