The location was excellent, the pub and the room were amazing, historic and well maintained. Good looking pub and beer garden is beautiful and relaxing. The room was spacious, the bathroom was nice, overall the stay was brilliant. The restaurant for breakfast was amazing, everything was cooked fresh and tasted absolutely delicious. The bar staff were super friendly and helpful. The overall atmosphere of the pub was relaxed and comfortable and I would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

There was no handle or lock on the bathroom door and as I was sharing with a friend, I didn't want to share the intimate bathroom moments with nothing holding the door closed. The other problem was the lack of power outlets in the room. I understand it is an ancient pub and we were above the bar, in the historic room, and electricity wasn't a thing when the pub was built, but maybe one more outlet would have been useful or an extension cable?

Was right next to the Fantasy Forest festival, perfect location :D Staff was very friendly and I loved seeing people’s dogs the hotel.

- Booking WAY overcharged us for the room. I paid about £270 for one night, and then the next day we looked at rooms on the app again and there was a suite available for £226 a night … we had the smallest room. When I asked the staff I was told Booking was the one to set the prices. I think they purposely bumped up the prices because of the festival, I felt completely ripped off. -Had a minor issue with the shower that was hard to start/adjust the temperature but someone from the staff came up and helped us with it !

The restaurant and pub areas

Our room wasn’t ideal, very close to traffic from parking and couldn’t open windows because too exposed to people sitting outside in beer garden area. Also, our room could have used some maintenance from the shower door handle missing parts, to the soap dispensers mounted to wall being empty, just little things that could easily be fixed. Also, there were leaves all around the door that kept blowing into the room, so our carpeted floor was covered in leaves. I believe other rooms at the Lion Inn were great and we just got the worst room. Also, the ceiling was very low and so between having to keep the shutters closed for privacy and the low ceiling the room felt claustrophobic!

Spent 2 nights here and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Warm greeting and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. We certainly noticed extra care, thought and planning ahead. Room was stunning, warm and we had everything we needed. Service is spot on! The food was divine! Couldn’t recommend it more! Full English breakfast is the one! Interior design is beautiful. Considered and in keeping with the old style of the building. Very cosy. Tuesday quiz night was so much fun! All the staff we interacted with were great to us. We loved our stay here! Exceed all our expectations! Fab!

This wasn’t even an issue to be honest, just thought the info about the loyalty app could have been a bit more transparent with set up and if you are entitled to use the discounts straight away if you join up. This is not a complaint by any means.

The room was comfortable and clean and in an excellent location. Bathroom was a little tricky to access (Duck...or grouse), and I only bumped my head once! There was adequate storage for our clothes and two comfortable chairs in which we could relax after a day of walking. Breakfasts were excellent in choices and taste, and Oola, our breakfast waitress, was delightful, personable and helpful.

The room was dark and the the bathroom could use some updating.

We received a warm welcome and lots of support as my daughter had just been placed on thyroxine and was struggling for energy. We had her 6 month old baby daughter with us. I was very pleased with the support of the staff throughout the stay, as my daughter visited Cheltenham A & E on 2 occasions, the latter when we were due to be out of our room.

This is just a small point, as our room was very clean, but I felt the upper part of the toilet basin and back could have been cleaner. The only other issue which they endeavoured to sort, was a heavy handed chef with salt. Of course, this can also depend on personal preferences.

Breakfast exceptionally good. High quality food and drinks. Dinner was also nice. Room clean and cozy. Most of the staff was friendly.

Flexibility on check-in time. We arrived an hour before time and we were sent away by the male bartender with the message we could check in an hour later. Not really the warm welcome you want. If you value a quiet room this is not the right place for you. We were in room 3 which is right above the bar. There was quite some noise transferring to the room. Also there was on/off noise from a pump. As well as continued buzzing noise from some kitchen extractor or boiler.

Great location right in the village. Very nice pub. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent large room, warm, comfortable and well-equipped. Warm and welcoming bar area. Very good breakfast served by friendly and efficient staff. Quirky and fun record player with several LPs to play. Car park next to the pub.

The bathroom was excellent but there wasn't a lid on the toilet. Maybe it had broken and hadn't yet been replaced. Breakfast was served between 9:00 and 10:00. We would have preferred an earlier breakfast and, well done Lion team, they were happy that we had breakfast at 8:45.

Staff and food were excellent. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. The quality of the food in the evening was exceptional. The facilities are comfortable, clean and relaxing. There were some nice touches with unusual lamps, mirrors and furniture. There was good quality tea , coffee and hot chocolate in the bedroom, with additional touches such as local biscotti and bottled water. The toiletries were also very nice and the towels large and soft. It was -2 degrees outside but a very comfortable temperature maintained in the inn. A little Christmas tree in the room bought the season alive for us and there was tasteful seasonal decoration throughout the premises.

There were a few maintenance issues and black mould could be seen under peeling wallpaper. Bathroom catch didn’t work as catch had become unscrewed and the shower was stiff. There were no clear directions for how to operate the shower and it dripped permanently. But when we worked it out it was a good temperature and pressure

Great pub with very friendly staff and lovely food and cosy bedroom.

A little noisy, for example, in the evening/night there was a noise like a generator or some appliance that went on and off intermittently for hours, may have been coming from the kitchen as I think I was above it. Also part of the quaint nature of the pub is that it is small and cosy, this did mean that when my neighbours came in at 1.15 am I got woken up as their door was very close to mine.
