Beautiful art deco hotel, on short walking distance from the city center, serving a tasty breakfast set in nice surroundings. We had the big family attic room in the Lodge: a very big comfy space composed of a beautiful large bathroom, a nicely decorated double bedroom (this room has no door, it is open to the hallway and the entryway (stairs), so no privacy when staying with more than a couple) and an extra (kids)room with a small double bed and a refrigerator. We really liked the rooms but found it a pity that the smaller room was so sparsely decorated. It felt a bit unfinished as there is only a bed and a small buffet for refrigerator in there ; nothing on the walls, no sitting space or table. It could be so much more beautiful and cosy with a little effort!).

We would have appreciated a door (or curtain) to visually separate the big room as well (it would feel more cosy not to look into the - not so beautiful-stairway and give more privacy) . But these are just details. The hotel is magnificent and we would come back without hesitation!

Lovely decor throughout the hotel, with the hotel rooms being thoughtfully designed. We got an upgraded room and the facilities were excellent. Good addition of kettle, mugs, teas and coffees. A very comfortable suite with a firm bed and black out curtains. Location was excellent, with a nearby bus stop that takes you into the city centre.

Our room was on the ground floor and outside were the bins and the courtyard to the lodges. It was loud in the morning around 7:30 each weekday when the bins were being used. There were also many cobwebs in the hotel room and the outside of the shower was not very clean. However, the positives outweigh the negatives and I would come back.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Elmbank. We love everything about it. The location is perfect, right next to York centre, about a 10 minute walk. Decor is beautiful and has lots of history, hotel is spotless clean. Staff are so friendly and welcoming they cannot do enough for you. Didn’t eat in the hotel restaurant this time but have previously and the food was delicious. Breakfast was really tasty too. Cocktails are amazing, I tried a few different ones and loved all of them!

Parking is a bit of a nightmare. I managed to get a space this time and left my car in it for 2 days as they’re hard to get. We stayed in room 319 and on the 2nd morning there was a really strong smell of drains coming from the shower which filled the whole bathroom. I would have given a 10 on everything if it wasn’t for that happening in the room. Apart from this, our stay was perfect.

We went to York for the races, The Elmbank being particularly well located for this purpose. Staff were very friendly(Down to earth Northern folk) and we ate there both Saturday and Sunday, sandwiches etc. We've stayed at then Elmbank a few times and know what to expect.

It's never cheap in York hotels on race days so I'll make the point that it wasn't cheap, but that's the price you have to pay to stay. The hotel was full and deserves to be. Racecourse attendances are down since covid which must have a knock on affect on the hotels. We hope the Elmbank will be available to us for many years to come.

Impressive, spacious rooms. I mentioned it was my birthday and they very kindly upgraded my room at no extra charge. Lovely sized shower room and toilet facilities. Continental breakfast offered a wide range as well as having a menu of hot dishes made to order which were tasty. Attentive staff. Great location, a short walk to York centre and close to bus stops if needed. Would stay again.

A few tweaks here and there could make it exceptional. Shower door didn't fit properly so water leaked onto bathroom floor. Bathroom sink held water for a while, slow draining, possibly blocked. A few webs on lights and walls.

The hotel staff were amazing especially the Spanish waiter who was so friendly and helpful. The main building was beautiful, reception , bar and outside bar area, , lobby and restaurant. The food was really lovely -We ate in the restaurant the first night and then went back two nights later even though it was the same menu because it was so nice. Breakfast was lovely too with a great choice of cooked breakfasts cooked ready for you. The reception staff were really helpful and knew a lot about the local area which really helped us get around the city.

I booked a courtyard room because I thought from the reviews these rooms had baths in them. Although the room was very pleasant and comfortable it only had a shower which was very disappointing but I guess none of the rooms in the hotel had baths. The courtyard had some tables and chairs outside but no view apart from other rooms and the dirty laundry bins so we didn't use that facility.

The hotel itself and decor is stunning, a beautiful location for a romantic getaway. We were upgraded on arrival and the staff were all very attentive and friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of the centre/shops. Parking on site is available at a fee and we were lucky enough to get a space. Nespresso machine in the room and a mini fridge with complimentary Harrogate water.

One of our rooms toilet rolls had what looked like sick splatters on it and soap smears were in the shower from past use but otherwise the room was clean. Breakfast - wide selection of cold options, auto machine coffee and average "Yorkshire ham" i.e. packet sliced ham, with the hollandaise eggs (I was expecting higher quality to match the hotel decor).

I love the spacious room with very large bed. The bathroom was amazing with large shower and roll top bath. The fridge was a great asset, particularly in the warm weather. The location of the hotel is perfect with a 15 minute walk to the railway station and the city centre. It was very nice to sit out on the terrace with a drink from the bar. All staff are so very professional, helpful and friendly. I will certainly return.

The hotel is wonderful. My only negative is that the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. There was also some noise from the main road outside but this settled after midnight.

This is our second stay at the hotel and it has been freshened up and is a very interesting building with lots of character. The staff at the hotel are so welcoming and make you feel that nothing is too much trouble. We had one or two issues with our room ( air con not working/ additional clothes hangers needed) But they were sorted quickly and staff checked with us afterwards to ensure we were happy.

We upgraded our room but the air con failed twice and the second time, the maintenance team had gone home and no-one could sort it out. The weather was warm and so was the room. Staff did provide a fan for the room as a substitute but the second night wasn't as comfortable as the first.
