Gorgeous old building, great on site bar and restaurant (breakfast only) at the back. Small free private parking area. I was able to fit my car in a space off the street and walk to the city centre. Close to everything but very quiet and private room. Booked a single but got a lovely double bed in a cosy well appointed room. Very friendly and informative welcome with loads of tourist information provided by Donna to help plan my visit. Complimentary hot beverage on arrival was very welcome in the cold snap.

(This was a visitor issue more than a issue with the hotel) Some visitors took up several parking spaces by parking on or across the bays, which limited access to the carpark. However I was able to squeeze into a space and leave my keys at reception in case they needed to move my car.

The location is great, about 10-15 minutes walk into the city centre. Breakfast was good and the staff were all friendly and helpful with a good knowledge of the city and what is available. Once you have arrived you don't need a car to visit anywhere in the city.

The only problem is parking. There are about 60 rooms but only around 10 parking spaces behind the hotel and two on the road in front of the hotel. If you are there at weekends or in school holidays the hotel has a good arrangement with a local school for off-road parking about 5 minutes away. Having said that the staff were very helpful with information and explaining about the parking arrangements.

Very good breakfasts- plenty of choice and excellent service. Room was clean and well supplied. Location is excellent- able to walk to all major venues including Minster, Railway Museum and York Castle Museum. All staff helpful and nothing too much trouble. We intend to visit York and stay here again before Christmas 2024.

Heated towel rail in bathroom was very hot and made the room too hot, the week we stayed. Would have like ventilation in bathroom either an opening window or extractor fan. Being in a back bedroom, in hot weather with the windows open, meant we could hear deliveries etc from about 6:30am onwards. Having said this, none of them spoilt our stay and would stop us staying again or recommending the hotel to others.

To start off our day with a great breakfast after a great night's sleep in a very comfortable bed in a very clean and well-spaced room where staff were very friendly and helpful, The Wheatlands Lodge Hotel is the only Hotel my wife and I would use on our visits to York as we have done in the past and hopefully for many more visits to York and this delightful family run hotel. Many thanks to Tim and Fiona for making this such a wonderful visit to the hotel and the lovely lady who served our refreshments in the well stocked lounge in the evening after a delightful five course meal at a fair price.

There is nothing to dislike about this family run hotel.

Staff were so helpful and so friendly Breakfast is amazing, (Caroline was so helpful pleasant and attentive ) The room was clean and well presented we were on the top floor and the veiw was brilliant The bar is easy to find for a late night drink and well stocked. Can't recommend enough, You are greeted with a smile and left with a warmth knowing you will return

I was travelling with my daughter who is a wheelchair user and has a portable hoist. When I arrived later than was expected, I was delighted to see a member of staff come and help me with all my luggage. My room was on the ground floor to accommodate the wheelchair and was a lovely spacious room. The beds had been positioned in a way I'd said earlier that would make my stay easier.

The only thing that was a pain was trying to get it the room with the wheelchair due to the positioning of the door and stairs. But really, that was more to do with the size of the wheelchair than the hotels fault. It is a really big bulky wheelchair.

Beautiful lodge within walking distance of town center and also close to bus stops and train station. After spraining my ankle before arrival, Tim quickly arranged for me to have room on ground floor. I appreciated the rubber shower mat and grab bar. Room was perfect for 2 night stay. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Staff very helpful whenever we needed anything.

The only negative was a group of children guests who woke me up early both days with what sounded like a herd of horses on stairway outside my room. They were just being playful children, but it did take away from my desire to have more peace and quiet. They also played loudly in their rooms until about 10:30, but quieted down throughout night.

All staff were lovely & really helpful, the first lady we met (apologies can’t remember her name) gave us lots of details for the city before we were due to check in as arrived in the morning to take full advantage looking round. When we checked in Maz was lovely & answered any questions we had & we continued to have a chat while staying when she was working in the afternoon/evenings which was lovely. Fiona & Tim (the owners) were also great to talk with & answered any questions or queries we had or again just for a chat about the day :-) The room itself did exactly what we needed it for, sleeping & getting ready in the morning. I’m not going to mention beds or pillows as these are a personal preference & you can’t please everyone with all the different types you have (you only need to watch Four in a bed to know this!). The breakfast was excellent (1 meat & 1 vegetarian eater) and we also chose dinner here which again for the price was value for money, thank you to the chef.

The stairs but not something you can change with a lift due to the building & means more exercise for when you have tea & cake.

All staff were excellent . Meals were very good and filling. Bus stop into York railway station was nearby. Walk into York was on the level and took about 20 minutes walking slowly. The bedroom was good with space and good light as was the bathroom. Needed an extra bathmat in the bath for the shower which I was given.

The bed was ok if you were a small adult or a child, as it was fitted very tightly into an alcove space. Not good for me being tall. To stay again I would have a double room. The restaurant on the day I arrived was fully booked for dinner, so had to go out. Room service or bar meal was not offered, which I would have preferred.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble Parking was available at rear of hotel The location is ideal - hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood, while also being quite close to the train station city centre, cinema, playhouse etc Our bedroom was warm and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep Breakfast was served at our table and included good vegetarian choices and a good choice of drinks The bar was stocked with a good range of drinks and we're reasonably priced There's an attractive garden at the front where you can sit and enjoy a drink There's a relaxed, mature and friendly atmosphere at the hotel - I was staying with family but would be just as comfortable staying there on my own

The colour schemes and decor in certain areas don't do justice to the beautiful building
