Surfer Beach Hotel

- location is amazing, steps to the beach and tons of restaurants available with options for everyone - staff was friendly and helpful - texting service to provide information was easy and responses were quick

- the wifi was not strong/did not work consistently. if you were expecting to be able to work or use your phone solely using wifi that might be an issue - there are small updates that could be made to update the property to perhaps give a better appearance of cleanliness. i think the hotel itself is clean but there are certain things such as couches/headboards/curtains that no matter what cannot be kept as clean as they should because of their age and material

Service was extraordinary! Bed was comfy and sheets/towels were spotlessly white. Hot water when needed. Great view of the ocean close by. Pool was 82 degrees and very clean. Right next to World Famous Restaurant which has fabulous food, and easy walking distance to other restaurants and a grocery store. Other guests were polite and friendly. Dogs were welcome. We will definately go back again as soon as possible.The hoe

The hotel is older and needs refreshing. However, everything was in working order. A new paint job on the exterior and new carpeting in the hallways would be nice. But this is a beach hotel with kids and dogs, so wear and tear is to be expected.

THE LOCATION WAS AMAZING!! I was nervous because so many reviews mentioned the smell of mold, but other than the normal atmosphere caused by being close to the beach and the staff not using those flowery, fake "air fresheners", which I REALLY hate, there wasn't any problem with this in my opinion--and I'm very sensitive to airborne contaminants. Would DEFINITELY stay here again.

Parking was an issue. I asked if they had parking, which they do have. What they didn't tell me was that there was a charge for it. Also, I was there on Memorial Day weekend, so the place was BUSY and parking was VERY tight. The spots are TINY and there were tons of guests that brought trucks/suvs that were just shy of being RVs. There was NO way they would fit in the hotel's tiny spots, so these vehicles took up extra spaces that just made parking even harder to find.

Get the king ocean view. 3rd or 4th floor. The king deluxe is bigger but the view does not compare. From the king rooms you don't even have to get out of bed to enjoy the beautiful sea, pelicans, and surfers. Its location is so prime. Food all around. Stephanie at the front desk was great.

Shower is small. Like if you are 6ft and over, good luck. But I think they have rooms with bigger showers. And the TV was going out. But you don't come to the beach to watch TV. I wish they told us about 30 $ parking we would have ubered as we were just doing a stay cay. But they are dog friendly surfer beach hotel is AWESOME!

The location is the shining feature! We were in an Ocean View Jr Suite and the views of the beach and daily action from our deck were excellent. Bed was super comfy.

We stayed in one of the junior suites and were surprised by the room and location. Every time we visit San Diego we make it a point to stay at a different hotel near the beach. However, I think we have finally found a place that we want to make a home away from home. It is not luxurious, it may only have one elevator that is very slow and makes you climb up and down the stairs, and it may be a bit outdated, but after my vacation there it felt like I was leaving home and I didn’t want to leave. The staff was very friendly and always eager to help in any way possible. All of the rooms there pretty much get a balcony and a beautiful view of the ocean, you get so much space, a great pool, and access to Pacific Beach, plenty of food spots, and shopping areas. This one place literally met all of our needs and wants. I see my partner and I coming here multiple times a year for the rest of our lives. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to find a paradise away from their busy life.

It was a bit outdated, the TVs are horrible (not that you would really be watching tv with the view outside the balcony) and the mini fridge did not cool properly.

Absolutely wonderful location with great ocean views. Room is very comparable to beach hotels we have stayed in all over the west coast. Very close to great restaurants and a really fun place to visit. Extremely quiet during the stated "quite time." Also very dependable, fast internet.

Couldn't watch all ot the channels on TV due to noisy background. Small inconvenience

For an older hotel, they keep it clean. And you can't beat the location. I normally wouldn't spend what I did a night on this particular hotel; but it was last minute over 4th of July. It ended up being perfect for us. They even let us in early around 12 because our room was ready. Huge bonus!!! Staff was friendly.

The hotel rooms need some updating. But it's an older hotel that meets your needs and great location. Need more bath towels stocked in room.

The staff all were exceptionally helpful & very friendly! they allowed us to keep our luggage safe in their luggage storage area, since we arrived early. plus, they texted us once a room was ready for us & allowed us to check in early. when ever we saw or passed any staff member they always said hello & were friendly. the location was perfect! two of our favorite restaurants- world famous & woodys both on the same property. plus, so close to many other great restaurants! easy access to beach! and great view from our room of the ocean! king bed was very comfortable! A perfect place to stay!!

Location was excellent. Easy beach access. Beautiful view. Great Price for right off the beach.

Please get some flavored creamers for your guests. A lot of the restaurants don’t open until long after some have been up and coffee is not always that close. so flavored creamers would be nice. Oh and the door when you first come in hits the counter top. it’s jarring at first when you walk in and you get stopped by the door not opening all the way…might want to look into that.
