The staff at the reception were accommodating and check-in process was smooth. The location was near to restaurants, convenienve stores, and walking distance to the beach. There is also a coin laundry by the hotel itself. Parking space is a bit tight but it is not an issue as we got to park right infront of our room during the duration of our stay.

Noise can be heard from the room upstairs and beside ours. Free breakfast is limited to only baked breads and coffee/orange juice so if you prefer a proper breakfast you can go to Cavalier restaurant with good options and use the free breakfast voucher for discount.

located near the Hurst Castle which we had a tour scheduled. breakfast ~ they gave us vouchers for the restaurant next door for like $5.00 off the meal OR you could get the FREE continental breakfast instead ~ which was toast and coffee. We did both and very satisfied with price. Room was comfortable with microwave and fridge and coffee maker.

Spa could use some attention ~ cleaning perhaps or maybe it was just old and did not come clean. Either way, we did not use it and were hoping to. The hotel next door had all the employees ~ not sure if one was closing (the one we stayed in) and we would have to walk next door for anything. Sort of weird ~ but not a deal breaker to stay there again.

Loved the price and the ability to walk down to the beach. I liked that there was a complimentary yoga/pilates class offered, but didn't have the availability to take advantage of it.

There was a weird stain on the carpet, but it was dry. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but we made it work. The continental breakfast is just basic pastries and tiny orange juice cartons and coffee, but you can use your breakfast voucher for $5 off a hot breakfast at the restaurant next door.

the property was clean, quiet, and cozy. they had an outdoor seating area near the vending and ice machines. I felt safe everywhere on the property.

the indoor pool at the hotel wasnt open. this might still be because of Covid? we were able to use the outdoor pool and spa, which was a bit out of our way. there was a gate at the end of our corridor which would have made it so much easier to access the pool, but we couldn’t open it. the door to the bathroom stuck when you tried to open it, which was startling when others were trying to sleep at night, because it made a loud noise.

Pet friendly, comfortable bed, great restaurant. The Sands is owned by the Cavalier so you have all the amenities of the location and the grounds at around a third of the price. The restaurant is excellent also.

Little things that haven't been fixed in a year and a half, eg., a drawer that doesn't completely close or a broken knob on a drawer that isn't replaced. With that being said, if they upgraded everything, they'd probably raise prices. and it's a fabulous value. It's clean and the bed's comfortable. That's all I care about. When I feel like splurging I stay in the Cavalier rooms. Also, I wish they had a program for frequent visitors as I have been there 12 times.

Our room was comfortable, quiet and we could see and hear the ocean from our bedroom window. I loved that we could use The Cavalier Resort facilities. Our room was a great value!

The breakfast was very simple and put together without a lot of care. Just coffee (which was always out), cheap plastic-wrapped muffins and Danish, oranges and apples. We used the voucher for $5.00 off breakfast at the restaurant. It was great!

I've stayed several times and loved it. I even stayed while Covid 19 restrictions were in effect and although services were limited, it was great.

The fire pits they light were not available as there were 2 separate large families that would bbq their dinner and then stay until they shut down so no other guests got to enjoy them. If families want to bbq then they need to have them use another area, so the rest of the guests have an opportunity to use the fire pits. Also, as a safety issue, parent or adult should be supervising their children at the pool. There was a group of kids that were related to each other that were running and jumping into the pool which is not deep enough to be doing that and one of them could have gotten seriously injured

I love how relaxing it was in every single way. The fire pits are always a win. The pool and hot tub is absolutely amazing. The views are great, especially because Whales are migrating up the West Coast. You can sit on a comfy bench next to a firepit, sipping your drink, while whale watching. We live in San Jose and we drove Highway 1 back. between San Simeon and Monterey we saw over 100 whales. I got video of several Orca pods right below the bluff I was standing on. It's just a wonderful location. Right next to the Elephant seal viewing point and our favorite, Hearst Castle. A+ service. My kids actually ate the breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Most awesome of all, you can bring your dogs. Thanks for having us, trust me, we will be back.

Not much could have been better.

Overall the best location for price I've visited in San Simeon. Dogs welcome and some pretty nice recreation areas to spend time less than 50ft from the beach

Do not get the room upstairs attached to the staircase. I could hear every step from other guests coming up and down until 2am. Room 269

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We had to check in next door at the Cavalier but the clerks there were SUPER friendly and very welcoming. it was raining the night we arrived so we couldn't take advantage of the heated pools. The next morning was beautiful so we drove a few minutes up the highway to the Elephant seal beach. It was birthing season so there were tons of mothers and babies to enjoy. Would definitely stay again for the value and comfort.
