Easily the best true B&B we've ever stayed with. Kurt and Kana are very personable and made us feel like we were staying with friends from the first moment to last. Kana's breakfasts were excellent, different each day, and always including fresh tropical fruit and coffee from their 5-acre plot and Kana's own baking creations. Kurt was a "delivery boy" (his term!) with flair at each breakfast. We shared wonderful conversations about our life experiences on the spacious lanai with its inspirational view. And one important point: Kurt has to repeatedly assure people that the 200-meter drive in from the main road is not a 4WD cross country trek. It is easy in any car and only requires you go slow. It adds immensely to the ambience of the Edge. Finally, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the location is close to the Big Island activities while being far from the noises.
Some folks might have a problem with the very vocal rooster outside the "Nut Room." But we loved the rural sounds and adjusted by getting up a little earlier than normal.

The location of the house is wonderful with beautiful views of the mountains and ocean and surrounded by coffee trees , macadamia trees, and all sorts of tropical fruits. The balcony is very spacious and cozy. I could stay there for whole day. The breakfast serviced couldn’t be better with nice bread or home made quiche, fresh and sweet fruits from their garden , and Kona coffee from their plantation. It exceeds my expectations.
The drive to the house is a little difficult since the house is location is on sort steep mountain, but if you pay attention to the direction given by the owner and arrive in daylight, it should not be a problem. Don’t follow Google direction. Drive slowly and carefully after you get off the main road.

This was hands down one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The property is absolutely amazing with a stunning balcony view. The home-cooked breakfast is delicious. Kurt and Kana are amazing hosts, they make you feel welcome and give you suggestions to best tailor your visit.
Not exactly a con but worth highlighting that the drive to get to the place could potentially require a 4x4 if it's raining hard. We had no issues whatsoever and it was easy to find the property with Kurt's detailed instructions. Otherwise there isn't a single bad thing about this B&B!

Kurt and Kana were delightful and very personable. Kurt shared a wealth of knowledge of the area, but not in an intrusive way. We had the the 2nd floor room with spectacular views. The bed was very comfortable, the room clean and fresh, plenty of room with a large balcony, and the breakfasts were wonderful. The breakfasts always included fresh fruits from the farm including their own grown Kona coffee. We highly recommend staying here. Just one item is that the driveway in is a bit steep and narrow in places so you'll need to drive slowly and carefully on the property.
We liked everything even the steep driveway was manageable.

The room was very comfy and the shared bathroom was clean and I had everything what I needed. The bed was very comfy and I sleeped really good. I really loved the selfmade breakfast every morning with fresh fruits from the garden. I got something different every day. The view from the balcony was marvelous! Kurt was very nice and shared a lot of tips for nice markets and snorkeling spots. I could also borrow snorkeling gear and a cooling box. As I stayed more than 3 days I could also use the laundary service. I would definitely come back to this place again and again!
The drive down to the hotel is a bit adventourus. So make sure to arrive during daylight when driving down there the first time. I got good instructions from Kurt so I had no problems with finding my way. I had a normal car and it was fine to drive but I had to drive very slow, I guess a Jeep would be a better option.

Kurt and Kana are lovely people. Room is spotless and huge lanai ( we were on the main floor) which is private except during breakfast time. Bed very very comfortable . Very lush plants and sounds of frogs and birds and crickets to lull you to sleep.. - so much better than road traffic noise.Appreciated greatly the snorkelling gear and chairs and cooler etc. Very close to two steps beach for great snorkelling and on the route to black sands beach as well.
Road in a little hectic for someone if a nervous driver- for everyone else ok. No restaurants walking distance (so if you want “ sundowner “ drinks best to get take out ( plenty nearby including pizza, Thai, Japanese, Hawaiian etc)and have sundowners on your lanai). Would have loved a kettle in the room - kitchen kettle fully accessible and offered but nice to have one in the room ( or on the lanai) for folks that are shy or don’t want to be noisy walking through the house early hours etc.

I enjoyed the location, but I enjoyed meeting Kurt and Kana more. They were nice people and treated us well. The food was amazing. I never experienced bed and breakfast. This experience was very unique because we had fresh fruits and something new everyday. Thank Doctor Kurt and I hope one day we can met again. Mahalo!
The drive down the road was a bit scary if you come when it’s dark. Plan accordingly if you don’t know the area. Hawaii gets dark really fast and if you are driving down to a place like like the Edgy, it may be a bit scary. But Kurt met us at the entrance with a light to guide us. The best day we laugh about the drive and we enjoy the small drive down the Edge.

It was for sure not what I was expecting - and probably not what you can imagine! Kurt and Kana create an amazing environment where you feel not only incredibly welcome, but also extremely comfortable. The room is great, location also great, breakfast is delicious - with a different menu everyday, full of fresh fruit - and they offer you literally everything you need (and more) to have the perfect stay in the Big Island!

An absolutely great spot to spend some days on Hawai‘i. I stayed in the Crow‘s Nest, the room on top of the house. You have an extraordinary view on the tropical landscape and the ocean. Sun sets must be absolutely breathtaking (if there are now clouds). The view is great from the lanai on the main floor as well. My room was spacious with many windows overlooking the great landscape. The washroom has a big shower. There is a spacious room to put your clouts. And there is a personal fridge as well. The Crow‘s Nest comes with a totally privat lanai. Everything was clean and well maintained. The hosts are very friendly and helpful when you need any information on the surroundings. If you stay there for at least three nights, you can have your washing done for free. There is a nice hammock on the main lanai, I spent quite some time reading there. The breakfasts are freshly cooked, nice and healthy. They come with fresh fruits from the property. And with nice coffee grown on the property as well. So truly a great place to stay!
Everything is fine and smooth. Just be aware, that driving down to the property is somewhat challenging. The route is small and quit steep. However, it is feasible even with a Chevrolet Silverado. And with the sketch you will get in advance easy to find.

We walked in and first looked out across the Pacific, it was breathtaking. Waves crashing against the volcanic reefs far below, headlands jutting out into the ocean, and beautiful sunsets. The breakfasts were wonderful, homebaked scones, fresh fruit from their farm.
The drive from the main road was a bit bumpy. Nothing our Jeep couldn’t handle.
