Quietly tucked away along the highway, Hale Ho'ola was such a lovely little B&B and exactly what we were looking for! We loved our cozy room, the delicious breakfast, the beautiful views and animal watching from the private lanai. We felt very welcomed and were well-looked after by our hosts. Do note if you're looking for the traditional tourist experience this may not be what you're looking for, but we appreciated that this was far enough from Kailua-Kona to not have to mingle with tourists and gimmicks. The nearby restaurants -- all mom and pop shops -- are excellent!

Nothing, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here!

Our Hosts were very helpful & kind. The view from our room and lanai was beyond expectations. The breakfasts were very good (fruit every morning! bacon & an egg protein based main with a bread item) - more than I can eat! We seldom heard other guests. We had a mini fridge and use of a microwave in the common area. Space & amenities were well thought out. Snorkeling equipment was available, along with books & games. Loved the quietness and that a National Historic Park was close by - great for early morning walks/run. (park outside gate if going in before opening.)

The slight downside is lack of AC - we weren't around much during the day - once the sun went down there was a nice breeze that came in and it was chilly by early morning hours. Definitely manageable. Even with the screen on the door and windows we did get a few mosquitoes in the room which were annoying. All in all I would stay again

Beautiful location, with great views over wild scrubland to the ocean beyond. Room comfortable and clean, plenty of towels, own private lanai. Beach towels and equipment available for guests’ use. Carl and Elma attentive and helpful hosts. Amazing breakfast in the morning on the upper deck, where there is an even better panoramic view. Loved all the birds and animals around the place, and our hosts had plenty of tips on things to see and do.

Exit onto main road a bit hairy. Being serenaded by the tree frogs at night might annoy some people.

Excellent breakfast. Nice room with a very nice balcony with very good views.

Although correct in general terms, the owner made us feel quite bad about a silly "incident". During our breakfast, we realized that the milk (from an already half empty bottle) smelled too hard and we told the owner about that (there wasn't too much milk left, and of course we don't want to take unnecessary risks while on holidays). But the owner, visibly upset with our comment, brought another bottle of milk, filled 2 glasses of milk, each one from each bottle, and tell us to explain if there was a difference, because both were white. An absolutely unnecessary and unpleasent moment. Absolutely innapropiate from a host

Elma and Carl were great hosts. My husband, adult daughter, and I stayed in the Palm Suite for 2 nights. The Palm Suite has 2 queen beds, full bathroom, and private lanai. We really enjoyed the lanai. When we checked in, Elma showed us their supply of beach towels, sand chairs, boogie boards, water shoes (mostly larger men's sizes), sunscreen, bug spray, snorkel gear, swim fins, and sand toys that guests could use. This was great because we had booked a snorkel tour to Captain Cook monument that recommended that we bring a beach towel and water shoes/appropriate footwear for walking on lava. Obviously, you aren't guaranteed to find your size for water shoes, fins, and snorkel gear but it's nice to to have the option. We had to leave before 8 am to make our snorkel tour so we requested a breakfast to go. Elma was very sweet and made each of us a hot breakfast sandwich. We were able to enjoy the sit-down breakfast the next morning and it was delicious. The fresh fruit was excellent.

For urban dwellers like us who aren't used to coqui frogs and roosters, bring ear plugs.

The location was beautiful. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The private lanai were very nice. They provide everything you could need for a beach vacation, from beach towels, coolers and umbrellas to water shoes, snorkel gear and boogie boards. Breakfast was lovely and their dog is a sweetheart. It was nice to chat with the hosts and the other guests over coffee each morning. The property is lovely, with many fruit trees and beautiful flowers and plants, and is very close to the best snorkel spot on the island. The rooms are comfortable, cute and peaceful. The showers have great water pressure.

It's a little far away from very many dining options but with a rental car, that's not the biggest deal. There are no windows, only screens, so you cannot shut out the noise from the frogs, which are notoriously loud. We used a white noise app and were able to sleep well, but we had to keep it up at full volume all night. There's also no ac or tvs, but we were comfortable, despite that. Overall we'd highly recommend this place, especially to a single traveler or couple who want a nature based vacation.

This was absolutely the best place we stayed at during our vacation at Hawaii! The hosts were amazing and helpful, the place is beautiful with amazing views, garden and birds. The home made breakfast were delicious. The place was clean, it was easy to park. There was a microwave in shared area, possibility to borrow snorkeling gear etc. There is everything you might need! :)

The place was 45 mins away from the airport only bc the speed limit is between 35-55. The B&B has a great view of the ocean with great sunset. Java sparrows were abundance and geckos came for a visit. B&B backs up to uninhabited rural land where feral pigs, horses & chickens pass by. Lots of birds zip around with tree frog that will sing in the evening. Guests will not go hungry.

The B&B is off the main road and has a narrow driveway. If you’re trying to find the place at night … good luck! One has to drive for eating (There is a restaurant within four miles from the B&B that serves great fish fries).

We really enjoyed the breakfasts, which were customized to support special diets and served on the lanai with a view of the ocean. Our room was comfortable and had a private lanai with an ocean view. We had access to dishes, utensils, and a microwave and we had a small refrigerator on our lanai for our exclusive use. The hosts, Carl and Alma, were welcoming and wonderful. Excellent value! We enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder while waiting for breakfast and the daily parade of wild pigs and piglets behind the property.

Parking was a bit tight. You must be very careful as you exit the property onto a very busy main artery.

Everything was great! Delicious breakfast, Carl and Emma were super kind and welcoming. They also provided everything we needed to go snorkeling in the nearby bays (such as Two Steps).

To me it's really not a problem, but the noises of nocturnal animals were quite loud, I guess they may bother someone.
