Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hyatt Centric Philadelphia. The room was comfortable both in size and in amenities. Except for the higher storage shelves, the room was very clean. The 'nightlights' on bed were helpful when getting up in the middle of night & stayed on the perfect amount of time. They weren't overly bright. I loved that the lights beside bed & seating area were dimmable. I requested a room away from elevators; they placed me at the far end of the floor (Room 901, King w/ City View). It was perfect - quiet and close to ice machine/water dispenser. (Ice machine was not noisy). Another reviewer complained about fans that ran constantly. The fan in each the shower/sink area & in the toilet area did run constantly, but the noise was more like a white noise and not distracting. I simply shut the door to the toilet to reduce the sound. Hotel is on a side street, which reduced street noise. Housekeeping emptied trash often & replenished towels/bath supplies every other day. That was enough for me. Housekeeping staff friendly, respectful and helpful, as was front desk staff & door man & one of the valets though I didn't use the garage at all. Location great for exploring Rittenhouse Square area, lots of restaurants close by and an easy walk to museums, historic areas of the city and subway stations. I liked that you can enter the hotel & go straight to your room without navigating a busy lobby/restaurant area. Also nice that key card is required to operate the elevator. Hotel is still new and hallways still clean and free of stains on carpets/walls. I didn't do a lot of shopping, though there are many stores close by. Overall, this was a great place to stay!

The room temperature was hard to regulate. I set thermostat between 72 and 67 degrees. If set to cooler temps, the 'furnace' ran constantly & blew really cold air. If set to a higher temp, the room would get stuffy. I slept/sat on right side of bed (as you face the bed) & felt the air from blower all the time. Maybe it would have been less of a problem if I was on other side of bed. Not many TV channel choices, but didn't spend a lot of time in the room, so not a huge issue. Had no problems that required housekeeping or maintenance. Flashlight in closet helpful, but only turns off when back on its holder.

Location was great, trims were big.

For a 4 star hotel at over $250 a night one would expect much better breakfast options than the grab and go sandwiches and snacks available. Also there was no offer of assistance with my 3 large suitcases checking in or out. A baggage trolley was not offered at check in nor do they send someone to your room to help with luggage at checkout. Finally Tylene at the front desk kindly helped me with my luggage until I got into my Uber. He was friendly and extremely helpful.

Wonderful interiors, really nailed the look. Centrally located near Rittenhouse Square and easily accessible by transit. Only a ~20 minute walk from the train station, making this a quite attractive spot to day trip to NYC or DC at less cost than getting a hotel in either of those cities.

Sound insulation was good between floors - the exposed concrete ceiling lets you know that. The walls however are very thin. During the day I could hear folks in the next room having a conversation at a normal tone. Thankfully things were quiet in neighboring rooms by evening and night but just how well sound carried surprised me.

The entire place looks quite modern (I think they even had USB-C charging plugs on the wall). The fitness center was quite usable though still limited in variety.

No microwave in the room, and the bed frame protrudes to the side to the extent that we bumped our legs against it several times (you can get used to it though). The breakfast system was a little hard to understand. If you book with breakfast, you basically get a fixed budget per day to use in the restaurant on the 2nd floor. Also no coin laundry in the hotel, but there is one nearby.

did not like there is not a door where one washes up or showers - not comfortable if sharing a room with a friend. Definitely not enough lighting - way too dim. And no USB ports to charge devices. Typical now in hotels to have them everywhere - only one outlet (not USB port) next to bed. One person could use. One last thing, I use a CPAP - no comfortable place to set near bed and there was not an available plug nearby - good thing I happen to have an extension cord.

The location is perfect. The rooms have been refurbished and are smartly decorated. All the staff quite pleasant.

It is very difficult to open the door from the street. There is not enough lighting in the room, it was a challenge to put on my makeup. The reason why I won’t stay again at the property is the shower and sink area are not enclosed behind a door. It is ok if you are traveling alone or with a partner, but if you are sharing your room with a teenager or anyone else you don’t want to expose your naked body you are out of luck. Also, it’s quite chilly when exiting the shower because you are standing right next to the entrance of the room and it is chilly - no door, what were they thinking 🤔

The interior design of the hotel is very nice, cosy and elegant. You can see the raw wood next to bluish wallpaper and paintings everywhere, which is very very soothing and pleasing to the eye. The breakfast was tasty and the fruits were fresh and crisp. The room was spacious. I really appreciated that a small lamp turned on when I woke up from the bed to lighten the way towards the restroom.

The AC was too strong and could not be adjusted to a weaker fan rate. The breakfast selection could have been better.

great location, you can see the hotel is very new, we loved the room it was clean and modern furnished, the view of the city was great too

parking for 55$/night was too expensive. We choose to park nearby which was half the price, due to covid the room will be only cleaned after the 4/5 days

o Having the reception on the 2nd floor seemed a little weird to us o No microwave in the room - Separating the shower from the toilet is generally a great idea for hotel rooms, but in this case there is an design error involved, at least in our room: If you step out of the shower while your partner is entering the room bec she is returning from gym, anyone on the corridor gets the full picture. - No room service unless you request it - Overnight parking is way too expensive (65 $ per day), there are cheaper options closeby (e.g. on Latimer St., fyi)
