Le Citizen Hotel

Very comfortable large room. Lift access. King size bed. 2 sitting chairs. Bar fridge. Nice bathroom shower over the bath. Room view over the canal. Windows open for fresh air and also double glazed for noise reduction and temperature control. Good block out curtains for sleeping. Walking distance to international train station- Gare du Nord. And subway access to sightseeing attractions. Breakfast included was good. Tea/coffee French bread and jam or croissant, granola and yoghurt. Also can have a wine or beer at the end of your day in the bar which over looks the canal. Many cafes, restaurants and patisserie to choose from. Laundromat close by. Extremely helpful staff with directions and information about trains. I cannot thank or praise them enough for helping us and sharing their local knowledge.

Nothing to dislike

Although the room was small it was v clean, compact &had a lovely outlook over the canal St Martin(which we also took a 2hr cruise along to the Seine) -fab. The bathroom was small but had a fantastic shower pressure &v clean .The bed & pillows were comfortable .The curtains blocked light &although a busy street it was never too noisy. Chaim on the front desk was fabulous &nothing was too much of a problem & he happily & informatively answered all our questions.All the staff were v good. The metro was not too far & there were lots of lovely cafes to eat in.around us .

The television was not connected & even though we wouldn't have used it a lot, it would have been nice to catch up on world news as cable television was advertised or just to chill out with a movie after walking Paris all day .Disappointing as we weren't told this on check in or given an alternative room

The social area although with great view on world walking by was a bit small uncomfortable. A sofa would be nice.

The staff at Le Citizen could not be more helpful! We had forgotten that we would need a French power adapter for our 3 night stay (spent a month in the UK and only left to go to Paris) and reception were able to provide us with one. Staff are there 24 hours a day and the property is secure; you need to ring the doorbell to get in at all times. We were given a map and multiple recommendations for things to do by one of the staff, an he even made us a complimentary coffee after he found out we were Australian! Breakfast was great and staff were accommodating even on the days we were a little late in making it down. The location is great, within walking distance of at least 2 metro stations providing access to most lines. Republique is a bustling district a short walk away with lots of restaurants and a picturesque square, but there are many dining options around the hotel for all times of the day so you do not have to walk far. The gelato place across the canal on the corner is brilliant - the most amazing gelato I've had in a long time! Ten Belles is an excellent coffee shop within a 2 minute walk and Liberte is an incredible boulangerie less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. In general, Canal St Martin is a picturesque area and we could even see the top of the Eiffel Tower from our room! The cleanliness of the room was wonderful and the housekeeping staff are promptly on to their tasks when you leave the room.

Our room was on the 6th floor which was great, but despite the double glazing it was noisy. It is definitely more noisy during the day than during the hours you will be sleeping, but we heard sirens blaring at least once every 3 minutes during the daylight and evening hours. The hotel is obviously aware of the noise as they provide complimentary ear plugs. At times, the hot water was not as hot as it should have been and the bed was a little on the smaller side (although comfortable). Fitting 2 large suitcases in the room was also difficult and we had to zip them up every time in order to move around the room.

Great view! Just sitting by the window and watching all the action at the Canal is enough. Beautiful room, as shown in the picture, friendly and helpful staff, a nice small bar and great breakfast. The area is amazing, full of nice cafes and restaurants and walking distance to Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord.

On a warm summer's night, expect it to be noisy from the people gathering at the banks of the Canal St Martin but that's part of the charm. They provide ear plugs, and it isn't a problem with sleeping but if you are looking for something very quiet in the summer, maybe this is not the best option.

The location is great ,hotel stands on Saint Martins canal both the view of it from the room.There are a lot of different cafes for breakfast,coffe and dinner.Not so busy area.Carrefour shop is 2 minutes walk.The Republique Metropolitan is 8-9min walk.You can walk 40min get to Musee de Louvre,Montramartre There are nice staff in the room like tea,cattle ,shower gel .The room was cleaned every day.The bed is comfy .Big mirror and good hair -dryer.

It could be some bottle of water provided in the room;)

I had a great stay at Le Citizen. The room has a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast is simple but great, the best orange juice I had in a long time. The staff was very kind and helpful throughout my stay, and even after when they hold my luggage for a bit after checkout. The area is very served with restaurants and bars and public transportation. The view of the room was very pleasant, overlooking the canal.

The streets can get a little loud at night, but they do provide ear plugs in case you are a light sleeper.

Breakfast was basic but I had some good yogurt and granola and cappuccinos. Very comfortable bed and modern bathroom with good soaps etc. Good security. I thought the location was great because you get to experience what it is like to live as a Parisian as opposed to touristy. Having said that, all the tourist spots are around 15-20 mins away by the subway. Close by all the transportation hubs like Gare de L'est. I thought the Canal St. Martin area was charming and interesting with endless restaurants, cafes and bars. I can recommend an excellent French restaurant called La Biche Du Canal and a great Asian/Cambodian restaurant called Le Cambodge, both within a block of the hotel.

Location fantastic right next to the canal and an easy walk to 'the centre' of Paris. Lots of great restaurants close by. Feels like a more authentic stay in a pretty village atmosphere, slightly removed from all the tourists a couple of streets away. Room was tiny (fine for one person) but to be expected as in Paris and rate was fair - gorgeous view onto canal. Bed was comfy and although on a busy street, there was no street noise.

I would rather the room key also buzzes you into the hotel vs having to wait for a staff member to open the door every time you come in. Sound proofed for street noise with windows, but rooms have an adjoining door to next door room so could hear everything.

Great shower - one of those that makes you think that you need to live under it. A lift to the bedrooms - unknown in many Parisian hotels. Super friendly staff, can't speak highly enough about them - again unusual in many Paris hotels. Are is really nice too, not far from the RER/Gare du Nord, some cool bars and restos.

They could work on how to get into the hotel! The glass door is locked, so you need to enter through the wooden door, which isn't clearly marked - a bit of obvious signage would help the new guest. Rooms are small, but that's every hotel in Paris in my opinion!
