Antica Locanda al Gambero

This hotel is located handy to St Mark's Square with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel breakfast was very good, with good service provided. Our 4th room was quite adequate for a short stay, the only downside being that there is no lift. The hotel is not far from the Grand Canal so access is reasonable for Venice.

The only downside is the lack of a lift - reception is on the first floor (with the restaurant) and our room was on the 4th floor. This meant that we had to carry our luggage all the way up.

Venice is absolutely Gorgeous and The Hotel made my stay even better. The location is Perfect. To get there, get out from the vaporetto on the most famous station Rialto and turn right, keep walking and you will see the restaurant Sapori di Mare, so turn left, (you have the restaurant by your right side). Go straight, the walk will take 3-4 minutes and here is Antica Locanda al Gambero. If you decide to see the most beautiful european Square (piazza di San Marco), leaving the hotel, take the opposite direction to the Rialto station and go straight. After 2 minutes walk, you get there. The place is also perfect for lonely travelers, like me- it's safe and close to most locations you will be interested to visit. You won't be afraid to enjoy piazza di San Marco and other monuments in the area in the night, thanks to the great location where there are a lot of people and the short distance to the hotel. I was very surprised to see I was offered a room with a balcony <3 I attached some photos. The personnel is super Kind and Friendly. I had a problem with my phone charger and had no idea I could buy such a thing around, among all those souvenir stores, just 3 minutes walk :D one of the receptionists indicated me where to go :) the stuff is not only ready to help and answer your questions but also take a quality conversation about the european cinema. Thanks to another receptionist (super nice and intelligent), I found the tricky locations from one of my favourite movies of all time (10 minutes walk from the hotel). He explained everything to me, gave me a map and tips. I was beyond grateful, as they were the reason why I spent my vacations in Venice. Not only he asked after if I found the places, but also recommended other movies shot in Venice. We had a great conversation about the cinema & Venice. Thanks to such service and personnel, you can feel the artistic soul of the people and the city. I can't wait to be back in Venice and Antica Locanda.

Niente da odiare

A nice two bedroom option (hard to find) especially in an expensive city with small rooms. Worked well for us as a family of four for two nights. Beautiful hotel decor with lots of character. Convenient location for sightseeing, shops and restaurants. A fair distance from the train station but a good opportunity to see Venice by boat (ferry). Once at the Rialto bridge/ferry stop, it’s a short and easy walk to the hotel. Nice location on a small canal, classic views out the window of passing gondolas, and the rooftop terrace was small but lovely for an afternoon wine and rooftop views. Friendly and helpful front desk staff and baggage helper (there are lots of stairs that are steep and tricky to navigate with heavy luggage so we appreciated his help). Room was well serviced. Breakfast staff also friendly, the breakfast room was lovely and the selection was simple but everything you needed to start the day. We enjoyed our stay!

Not the hotel’s fault - just a tip: We weren’t able to reserve a table at the restaurant below the hotel over the weekend - perhaps because it’s a Michelin star restaurant - so if you want to have dinner there, perhaps make a reservation in advance. Lots of other options in the area though.

Location. Very central in San Marco. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

If you have heavy luggage, climbing stairs will be a problem.

When initially finding the hotel, it's a bit tricky, as it's down the alleyway where the restaurant is, and it is right next to the restaurant staff table and in between all the customers' tables. So it makes you think you're going to the restaurant but you ain't. Once you find it, it's easy. The location and staffing are absolutely great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were small but very clean, and it had everything you needed. From ironing board, mini bar, toilet amenities, complimentary drinks and snacks, air con, extra blanket/pillows, etc. You name, they've got it. 24/7 receptionist. Do not hesitate to book unless...

Couple of downsides. 1) There are no lifts, so if you have large luggage, carrying from airport to hotel is already difficult enough around Venice, but then having to carry it up 3+ flight of stairs is exhausting. And after a long day of walking around beautiful Venice walking up the stairs is a pain too. 2) Our bathroom was very small and narrow. We can barely move around in our bathroom. If my husband and I were any bigger, it would have been a problem. 3) Cause it's in a prime location, there's bound to be noises, so if you're an early light sleeper, this would be difficult.

It was absolutely beautiful, almost like a fairytale. The rooms, albeit a tad bit small (and yet not cramped to actually complain), were very clean and elegant. The sheets and the towels were changed on the daily and they would supply anything you'd need, like toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, body lotion, even coffee, tea, chocolate and biscuits on the house!! The location was right between Rialto and San Marco, and not hidden from plain view. It's also not far from supermarkets! The personneel was friendly and always open to chat or inform us of anything we'd need to know, even without us asking. We exceptionally adored Gustavo, Olga and Christian, who not only helped us when needed, but also made our stay that much more enjoyable.

There is nothing left to say, from the location, to the facilities, hygiene, and staff, it was up to my standards.

Breakfast was great, good variety, location was centre of Venice a short walk to Lots of things to see, room was great top floor and we had a window over looking the canal we could hear the gondolas and singing! Magical!

We spent 5 nights at this hotel. We drove from UK - parked at Marco Polo and took the Alilaguna waterbus across to Venice, which takes about an hour to get to Rialto Bridge. The hotel kindly sent very clear instructions about how to find the hotel, which is located about 5 minutes walk from the Alilaguna stop at Rialto and about 8 mins from St Mark’s. Our en-suite room was compact but had everything we needed. There was a huge, comfortable bed, large screen tv, good lighting, small safe, kettle, selection of drinks, biscuits, fridge with minibar and also a free little bottle of fizz and local biscuits as a welcome gift. Everything was spotlessly clean and the room was serviced every day including replenishing tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. The room looked over a small canal and we could hear the gondoliers singing as they passed. Reception is on the first floor and our room was on the second. There are 4 floors but no lift - though this wasn’t a problem for us - and we saw staff helping carry luggage up and down for guests. Staff were very friendly and always greeted us as we passed reception. Breakfast included a good range of hot and cold food. Hot drinks were brought to the table. The hotel is in the lively heart of Venice and has a good restaurant beneath it - we had a fabulous time and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Every tomenwe left the horel we needed to leave the key from room on the reception.

The room is sooooo comfortable and clean, the shower is nice with marble plate, the staff is very very friendly and supportive, I asked tens of questions about what to do n where to go and transportation and they were ready to advise n explain in details , even helping in bringing bags to my room upstairs. aircon is working perrrfectly, after checking out you can leave your bags to enjoy your tour.. then come back to collect it at any time
