The staff was very friendly and it’s probably what is making me give this hotel a good grade. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was quite good. I liked having complimentary access to a good coffee machine with a good selection of hot drinks. Beds are also very comfy. AC in the rooms was also great way to escape from the Lisbon heat! location is pretty good, right by the Miradouro. There’s a lot of restaurants around but also lots of tourists.

The hotel is quite small and the photos are misleading. The main photo used (the one of a big terrace) is not even belonging to the hotel, it’s a restaurant across the street!! that’s not clear from the description and this is very misleading. The actual terrace of the hotel is quite a small but cute garden but it hasn’t got any place to sit and it’s not clearly signalled how to get there. The balcony in the room is ok to get a bit of fresh air but again it hasn’t even got a table or chairs. There’s not a bin in the room and the toilet door is a sliding door which leaves a gap between the bathroom and the door. definitely not great for a high end hotel.

Pousada Alfama has a wonderful location--if a traveler can take it. It is right across from plazas with wonderful views of the river and an attractive section of the cityscape. The plazas are full of life at all hours (except early morning) and the pousada is a few steps from the stairway leading up to the great castle. It is also at an incredibly crowded center of transportation in a very small space. The 28 trolley runs through it, there is a tuk-tuk stand, and the vehicular traffic right in front of the hotel is constant and complex. The pedestrian must be very careful, especially because the tiled sidewalks, sometimes slippery, are only about 18 inches wide in some places and the traffic passes within inches of the edge in places. (It is not that near to other public transportation--Metro, bus lines.) The hotel is very lovely, well-kept, with a nice, small, courtyard with a few tables in front, looking out on the action. The breakfasts in a pleasant little room are fine and the lobby and that space are decorated very nicely. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful and the hotel offers a nice surprise of edible and drinkable presents and a nice souvenir. The refrigerator has drinks and some chocolate that are free until used up and replaced. This gives a nice feeling beyond its monetary value.

Our room was very small and had no window, no view out at all. It was billed as having a balcony (I think was the term) but the French doors led to a tiny space facing a blank wall and enclosed on the two sides by partitions between the other rooms. We didn't expect this and it was a major disappointment. Less important: there were no drawers to put away clothes or other items--only some odd metal shelves and a small rack with hangers. Another minor annoyance, there was only one very small trash receptacle in the bathroom, no other.

The hotel is located in the heart of Alfama, the historic part of Lisbon. Front rooms have a beautiful view of the Portas do Sol viewpoint. The hotel combines the experience of chain hotels with an individual approach to each client. The hotel staff is very kind and helpful and thanks to the cleaning staff the hotel is perfectly clean. The rooms are small but comfortable. The breakfasts are very tasty, you can also make free coffee or tea in the coffee machine in the lobby. Downstairs there is a drink bar, where you can order drinks and snacks and enjoy life to the sounds of really great jazz music. Highly recommended! :)

The location was excellent, with a fabulous miradouro just across the street. We loved the little compliments in the room, and the bathroom had nice toiletries – shampoo, conditioner, body wash (all separate, not 3 in 1). Our room had access to the garden so it was nice and peaceful. Breakfast was also good (although the selection was not huge so on the 4th day it got somewhat repetitive). The staff were polite and helpful, so a good experience overall.

The rooms are rather small (especially for 300+ EUR a night), and the double bed feels cramped (I think it's not even 140 cm wide). The sliding bathroom door is a really poor design choice as it leaves a gap on both sides so you'll hear everything and can peek into the bathroom easily. And the TV signal was not reliable and would break off every few minutes. We had an issue with the AC unit and reported it to reception but, unfortunately, it was never fixed (we could not adjust the strength and direction of the air flow with the remote so it constantly blew cold air straight onto the bed).

The rooms were comfortable and decent size for the money, the view was beautiful. I very much appreciated the decor of the hotel, and they also gave a lot of complimentary things in the room. However, the biggest reason I would come back is because of the staff, which I find makes the biggest difference when you stay at a hotel. They were competent, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I couldn't have asked for more from them. If they keep that level of service up, I am sure to come back every time I visit Lisbon (3-4 times a year).

Problems with the wifi connection, but I am sure they will get this resolved in no time.

The hotel is located within walking distance from some very important historical landmarks (the Lisbon Cathedral, Saint George's Castle, the National Pantheon, the Rua Augusta Arch, etc.) and quite close to the main Rossio square. You have quite a lot of restaurants nearby, although transportation around Alfama (other than a couple of trams, including the historical 28E, and a bus to the castle) is relatively scarce. However, it wasn't an issue to get around on foot. While the hotel is in a very touristic area, the rooms are very well soundproof and you won't be bothered by the noise on the busy streets around. I'd say the rooms are about the right size (not too big, not too small), really comfortable, squeaky clean and the breakfast at the hotel was very good (quite a lot of options). The welcome gift (custard tarts, Ginja liqueur and a hand painted tile) were a lovely detail. To top it all off, the personnel was incredibly kind and helpful. Every single one of them. I think it is the best hotel I've have stayed in so far! If you are planning to go to Lisbon, you can't go wrong with them.

There's absolutely nothing that we didn't like during our stay.

Pousada Alfama is in an excellent location. All staff are welcoming and friendly. A gorgeous boutique hotel with courtyard out the front to relax with breakfast or a drink and enjoy river views. Close enough to walk to many attractions. Our room was small but very well appointed. Very comfortable with a balcony and garden views. Very quiet and peaceful for a great nights sleep. Breakfast each day was delicious and plates were always replenished. Complimentary mini bar and welcome gifts on arrival were appreciated. We also enjoyed complimentary Tea and coffee which was available in the lobby. Such a fabulous stay. We hope to return one day.

Nothing to dislike it was a wonderful stay. Could only suggest adding two little outdoor stools to enable guests to enjoy the rear balconies and lovely little garden area.

We had chosen the hotel because we were revisiting Lisbon after many years and had enjoyed the city so much on our first visit. The hotel is situated in the Alfama, with a great view over the Tagus. It is an old building centred around an open courtyard and has been beautifully restored. The rooms are excellently appointed and very comfortable. We arrived after 12.00 midnight, late and stressed after flying with Ryanair but were given a genuinely warm welcome . In our room we found a small bottle of cherry liqueur (Ginja) and some pastel nata. Throughout our stay this level of detail and care was maintained. Everything reflected this approach, from the generous range of breakfast options to an evening drink and tapas from the bar, which we enjoyed in the courtyard looking out onto the Miraduoro da Graça. Throughout our stay we were treated with the utmost kindness and hospitality by everyone at the hotel. An unforgettable experience, thank you.

There was nothing to dislike about our stay.

The location is right in the tourist heart of Alfama, so there was easy access to lots of restaurants, bars and tourist attractions, with the centre of Lisbon only a 15 - 20min walk. The staff were really friendly and always willing to suggest places to go. The Giant Panda on the wall by Bordalo II in the hotel courtyard was great and the courtyard was a great place to have breakfast, despite the hustle and bustle on the street outside. The breakfasts were really nice and set me and my wife up for the day ahead (meaning we didn’t need a big lunch). The room was very clean and had a safe. A nice welcoming touch was the complimentary drinks from the mini bar, the small bottle of Ginja cherry liquer, the Pastis De Nata and a free hand painted souvenir tile.

The entrance is on a road very busy with trams, Tuk-tuks, cars, taxis and people, not to mention the bollards which mean you can’t get off the road to unload. If you have a car. Stopping the car to unload the bags was a nightmare, though one of the staff was very quick to come out and help. I recommend you arrive at the hotel much later in the day when the road is not so busy. It’s also a very noisy road, but the glazing in our bedroom shut most of that out. However you can still feel the vibrations of the trams from morning to night. Our room was small and only had some open steel frame shelving/hanging rail as storage. No cupboards. Very ‘boutique’. Highly impractical. Also no kettle in the room. You had to go down to reception for a tea or coffee. Not ideal first thing in the morning.

Overlooking the river Tagus and nestled within the labyrinthine streets of the Alfama district, this hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Lisbon! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was delicious, generous and varied and the room we stayed in was clean, comfy and fairly luxurious. There were also small, thoughtful gifts in the room to welcome us. It felt like a special place to be.

It is very difficult to drive to the hotel - no closeby parking, unless you arrive early in the morning when the street may have space for you to park for a enough time to check in and drop your luggage. The square outside the hotel has good views of the river so it’s a hotspot for tourist tuktuks to park during the day.
