Lovely continental breakfast. The location was perfect. Great hotel for some much needed solitude and hill walking! I’m looking forward to returning when they have completed the refurb of the kitchen and lounge / bar area. Complimentary wine was a nice touch! The owners were very friendly and helpful. Comfy beds and a great nights sleep in a peaceful location!

My only comment would be that I don’t think guests should take their dogs now to the breakfast room. The hotel is dog friendly but personally I would prefer if there was no dogs around food.

Cambus O'May hotel is situated in the lap of nature but the same time on the highway. It's 130 year old property with a character and history of its own. I liked that there is a mini trail inside this property, river Dee is two minutes walk and so if ithe famous Cambus O' May bridge. The ballater is just 3 miles from this place. Catharina and her husband have been fantastic hosts. Their sweet dog Shidah was a wonderful companion during the stay. This place is dog and kid friendly. My dog was so calm and loved the place. The breakfast was limited in choice but there were some exotic palates. All in all I'll revisit this place again in a heart beat if I plan to travel that region again.

We loved the friendly staff, the attention to detail, the welcoming environment and tha fabulous location

Some horrible elderly guests who had a tantrum over bread and were obnoxious to the lovely staff at breakfast. The staff remained polite and professional but didn't deserve such rudeness

A beautiful hotel. I spent the evening on a leather sofa in front of a roaring log fire. Absolutely lovely. Also the hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay and would go out of my way to stay again.

Nothing. I loved it all.

The hotel was easy to get to ,the bathrooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The food on offer was to a good standard ,large portions …maybe too large ! Pleasant owner couple. Nice that the room heaters were on in the morning, just to take the chill off the room. Fires downstairs were kept burning into the night to keep warm ,and there was always a pleasant atmosphere.

We did encounter one staff member who was not that up to speed with English or with English drinks at the bar. No member of staff was discourteous though ,but understanding of English would be good. I think there was a couple of times when a drink ordered at the table didn’t come….but I am nit picking maybe.

Quaint and quiet place. Just what was needed after a busy days drive from Edinburgh with a stop at Stonehaven and other places along the way. Food was delish and hot; staff friendly and the house pooch was darling. We visited Muir National Reserve before heading on our way and if you have have time this place is very close. Thank you!

Not much to add here but want travelers from US to know that top sheets (beds) and wash cloths (bath) have not been customary this far (day 3) of our trip. My sister let me know about sheet so we packed one, but for ladies who like a good face scrub might want to add to their list. For the accommodations no negatives!

The hotel is a former fishing lodge which has been renovated keeping its history and feel in mind. The effect was quite quirky but gave a warm welcoming feel. The gardens and land are beautiful with the terrace looking out over a lawn, rhododendrons and trees towards the River Dee, The Cambus o May Bridge and the hills beyond. The staff were really friendly and helpful and full of character. Lovely, comfortable areas to chat with friends and have a drink from the bar. Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms all had a shower but some were over the bath. There was plenty of parking at the hotel which was safe and away from the road. Breakfast was a cold buffet but it was plentiful. Tea and coffee were available at all times. Simple but tasty evening meals available.

Bathrooms could have been more accessible for those with mobility issues as in some rooms showers were over the bath but if too much modernising was carried out then the ambience would be spoilt.

The house and grounds are magical - I wish I could have seen them 100 years ago. We had a large, comfortable room, which has been tastefully refurbished, overlooking the lawns. Lovely people with a dream that I hope they are able to fulfill.

On the first evening the whole Fawlty Towers experience was delivered by one person doing the work of three people. Check-in was chaotic but problems were resolved promptly and with good humour. At dinner neither "Manuel" nor "Sybil" knew that Cabernet Sauvignon was a red wine but we got the right one eventually and the steak was excellent and very good value. Breakfast was a cold buffet only but with freshly cooked pastries.

Loved the location of this lovely old traditional hotel with stunning views! The breakfast, while continental, had everything you would have wanted. Marie, who checked us in, was very pleasant and helpful.

Unfortunately, while we loved the room we had (room 4), the electrical socket for the kettle wasn't working (but did work when moved to another socket) but unfortunately the TV didn't work despite trying a number of sockets! Being only a one night stay (going to a nearby wedding) this didn't create too much of an issue. The toilet was very noisy when flushed. Also would have preferred a walk-in shower but, all in all, a lovely room.

Everything was perfect. The building is amazing, inside and out, with authentic decor and curious antiquities within. We received a warm welcome and were immediately made to feel at home. The staff are all wonderful people who couldn’t do enough for me and my dog. The owner went above and beyond for us and other guests. My room was comfortable and cosy and I also enjoyed an evening by the fire in one of the communal spaces during my stay. I can honestly say that everything about our stay was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back!

As previously stated, everything was perfect.
