Devonshire Arms at Pilsley - Chatsworth

Lovely village location, near to Bakewell. Scrupulously clean, well appointed throughout. Really comfortable room with four poster bed and views. Fabulous food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Staff were wonderful, cheery and helpful. The food is amazing. Compact but clean rooms. Lovely location. Plenty of on site parking.

Very hot when we stayed so air con would have been very welcomed. Although I know it’s prob not required that often. Bed itself wasn’t the comfiest but ok for a few nights. Also, we hadn’t realised check out was at 11am. We left at 11.15am and one of the cleaners made a snide remark that we would be charged a late check out fee. It soured the end of a lovely stay if I’m honest but given how lovely the rest of the staff were, we ignored her.

The room was beautiful, bed was so comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and newly renovated. Beautifully decorated. They were very accommodating with our dogs. Staff was wonderful and the breakfast options were beautiful (we had chose the smoked salmon breakfast and the full english)…. But OMG - the evening meals were DELICIOUS. Excellently prepared by an incredible chef. Fresh ingredients and flavours were amazing! We both had starters, that were gorgeous, I had the fish of the day main and my partner had lamb. We finished with dessert that was perfection! Definitely coming back every year! And plan to sneak back for some meals too since fortunately, we do not live to far away!

The hotel was lovely and clean and had very welcoming decor throughout. The staff were lovely especially Emma who checked us in and even let us have a look at some other rooms for our future stay. The hotel was easily accessible from Chatsworth House and the food was lovely.

The room could have done with being fitted with air conditioning (a minor fault but the staff did provide fans for our room). The pillows were a little too soft and flat for my preference and I think providing a choice of firm or soft pillows would be ideal.

A good location for all the places we wanted to visit. The room was cosy but very comfortable and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was great, a great breakfast and we had dinner there on two evenings which were excellent.

There was no lounge area where you could sit after dinner for a drink. It was more of a restaurant with rooms, than a pub, as there were not many people just calling in for a drink, it was all set up around having a meal. Even a couple of small sofas would have been enough.

All aspects of our stay was excellent, food was outstanding in both taste and service. The staff at the hotel good not have been more helpful and pleasant all being a credit to the hotel. The only thing that could cause problems was that the height of the four poster bed required steps for guests to get into bed. In our case we are fit 76 / 73 year olds who laughed at the challenge each evening We were during our stay our Golden Wedding, during which we were presented with a glass of Champagne and a celebration card, both of which was a loverly surprise. Thank you all for making our stay so memorable.

The f.ood was superb as always. We have stayed at the Devonshire hotels many times over the years

I would have preferred a room without a 4 poster but that was my fault for booking through booking.com. I won't make that mistake again. I am very short and find your ordinary king sized beds suit me more. When I phoned to change rooms I discovered that I had booked the last available room on the dates that I wanted. As I said, my fault entirely!! Next time I will phone.

bedrooms were beautifully appointed with superbly comfortable bed, high quality linen,delicious compli,entry biscuits,tea and coffee in the room. staff were very attentive and food excellent.

perhaps the bar and restaurant area felt a little generic and not as cosy as we would have liked bearing in mind it’s location. would have been good to have the fire lit in the dining room.

It was lovely and decorated nicely and very cosy, the bed was beautiful they have steps going up to it, the breakfast was lovely too. Perfect place to go to after getting married at chatsworth, breakfast wasn't to early either which meant we got a lie in, the staff were really friendly when we were enquiring about whether we could leave our belongings and pick them up later, its also only a 20 minute walk away from chatsworth which is a nice walk too

There wasn't anything I didn't really like it, was a lovely place in a great location, the shower wasn't up to my standards but I have high standards!

Our second time here. Lovely location, delicious food and friendly staff. Warm and cosy. We have booked to go back next year with our dog.

My only slight criticism would be the pillows. But that's a personal preference as they were too soft for me. I should have mentioned it as all the staff were so friendly and I'm sure they would have provided more.
