Expanse Hotel

Room provides all basic wants. Staff friendly and available. Excellent simple home cooking. Regular entertainment in adjacent AMrine B ar - the legendary Dave Robinson (wednesdays) and Nigel Heap (Saturday) each doing their solo thing over the recorded other parts (think modernb day pavenment singer/players). Great ocean view of the North Sea. Excep[tional value for money. What not to l;ke?

Room radiators not great - I did not exactly freeze but possibly more enjoyable when outside temperature not sub 10 degrees. Shower needed a service (probably only a thermostat needing replacing).

We chose this particular hotel for our recent trip to Bridlington primarily due to its location on the seafront. We were very happy with our choice. Our rooms were well decorated and comfortable. New modern bathrooms had been fitted which were really nice and functional. Big shower with plenty of hot water. Bed was large and very comfy. Our room was very warm which was great given the sub zero temperatures outside. The Staff were terrific and willing to make time for a chat and to introduce themselves. We chose to stay in the hotel for our evening meal which was fantastic from start to finish. Portion sizes were huge and the quality of the ingredients was first class. Same could be said for the breakfast which quite frankly was delicious. I personally took the opportunity to have locally sourced smoked haddock with poached eggs and the others in my party had the traditional full English. Plenty of cereals, toast, tea and fruit, yoghurts available. We also decided to have a few drinks in the Marine Bar Real Ale pub next door which was also very good. Friendly staff and a great selection of beers, lagers and ciders.

Everything was to our liking. Nothing to complain about.

We had a short break here, will definitely be booking again. The staff were exceptional from start to finish, friendly, polite, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was included and was lovely, toast and tea followed by a lovely cooked breakfast, but with the option also of fruit, cereal etc. Main meals were an additional cost but were reasonably priced and the food was good. There is also a well stocked bar which doesn't charge extortionate prices, which was great. Afternoon tea is also available. The rooms were lovely, each has its own small bathroom with towels, guest soaps and a small shower gel and small shampoo provided. Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided with milk and biscuits all there for you, which is brilliant for settling in with after a long journey. These are replaced by leaving restock in a small bag outside the room. There were a couple of issues with the room, mentioned below. TV, phone, and an clock radio in the room, and a hairdryer in the bathroom. Also an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. The view from the rooms is absolutely outstanding, Expanse by name for a very good reason, the view of the beach and sea is gorgeous, we watched yachts in the morning, and Flamborough lighthouse at night. Nights are really quiet outside, as you are not in the rowdy touristy end of town, so no anti social behaviour outside of an evening. You can walk into the town centre though if you want the arcades, amusements and shops, harbour etc., or take a ride on the little train that passes the front of the Expanse and right into town. Loads of brilliant things to do and see within a relatively short distance of the hotel too, depending on your interests, we went for the nature and culture things, Bempton Cliffs and RSPB centre, Bridlington Animal Park / Zoo, we saw the tallest monolith in a local church yard, a model village and various stately home type places. We crammed so much in, it was brilliant.

The only gripes really were small issues with the rooms. One had a window that did not catch shut and could just blow open, would be dangerous if children were in there. This was mentioned, not as a complaint, just an observation that needed seeing to. Also in that room, the chair by the window had a broken arm. The second room had the main middle window's double glazed unit blown, so it was constantly steamed up, which really spoiled the panoramic view. There was a smaller window at each side though, and in peak season you don't spend that much time in your room anyway, I am sure this will be dealt with out of season when it is quieter and not as fully booked.

I booked a single room and the space was more than adequate, the bathroom was massive. The bed was very comfy and I had a good nights sleep. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate were available in the room and there was a small balcony containing a chair and table if you wanted to sit outside. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice available, all the staff serving breakfast were polite and friendly.

The floor of the balcony could do with sweeping as it was quite dirty with old cigarette butts thrown down, if I'd had a dustpan and brush I'd have cleaned it myself as I did enjoy sitting outside watching the world go by. The two lights in the bathroom were exceptionally dim, I'm not sure what wattage bulbs were being used but I would guess no more than 15W each.

The hotel is in a great location, directly on the promenade, good parking with sea view from my room and the restaurant. Outside the centre of Bridlington so quiet location but only a short walk into the centre or the opposite direction to a countryside walk. Staff were friendly and professional. Quality of breakfast was great with plenty of choice too. Room and bathroom were very clean. Seaview room, with a small balcony for sitting outside was very special - the photo is my view.

Small steps to front door, even after using ramp option, and then a rotating door could make access difficult for some people

We stayed at the Expanse for 2 nights and we read a lot of reviews giving negative reviews which caused doubt about the place, this was from the rooms to the food to the attitude of the staff I can honestly say that this was not our experience. staff were very friendly and polite, the room was clean, yes a little dated but very clean and comfortable. the bed was great, both myself and my wife had great nights sleep. the breakfasts were lovely, fresh and delicious. we ate in on our second night, we had lamb with mash and carrots, was lovely, tasty. we would definitely stay again

All the staff were welcoming and very friendly, nothing was to much trouble. We were a party of six arriving at different times and everyone was so helpful. Everyone was happy with the rooms, they were comfortable and clean. Brilliant location, didn’t need to use car at all , lovely to step out to walk along the cliffs, beach and promenade. The breakfast was good and suited everyone’s needs and also we ate in the Marine Bar and that was very good.

Nothing really, perhaps parking but we all found somewhere to park so all was well.

Sea-view room spacious, comfy beds, plenty of storage space, thick curtains blocking out the light. Good choice of dishes for breakfast. We had dinner one night, good-sized portions, good value. Got a space in the car park, also 1-hour free parking in front of hotel useful on morning we left.

small niggles - light over basin linked to main bathroom light, so fan came on every time. Restaurant staff calling us 'guys' every time they came to the table. Maybe 'cos we're over 70 we find it's annoying American slang!

I have stayed at the Expanse on several occasions without any problems unfortunately on this occasion the lift was out of action which meant I had to be moved to a room on the First Floor which was smaller than I had used in the past ,it was also quite noisy from the use of bathrooms on floors in the vicinity. I would like to add that the staff were very helpful to visitors in dealing with the absence of the lift and this problem will not stop me from returning for further visits ,it was still a great stay .

The Expanse Hotel is perfectly situated, you just have to cross the road and you're on the beach. My room not only had a sea view but also a balcony and because it was sheltered, it wasn't too chilly to sit out there with a cup of tea, even in February. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the receptionist (Sue I think), who was great. A booking mix-up (entirely my fault) was quickly and easily resolved. Breakfasts were great.

The evening meals in the restaurants were quite expensive for what they were. They tasted... fine, but not amazing.
