Best Western Priory Hotel

The room was brilliant. Managed to get a great upgrade for a bargain. Nice and spacious, very clean. Decent decor. Complimentary confectionary in there. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. There was a very friendly cat who liked to hang around within the grounds that came to say hello. Beautiful little cat. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom size was very generous.

The restaurant menu was quite overpriced for what you got. A small rump steak with a handful of chips and blue cheese sauce was £24. I felt a bit hard done by on the portion size for the money. The paint in certain areas is a bit tired, particularly around reception (the first thing people see).

The staff were really friendly and genuine, even though there was in issue with the room (flooding- nothing they could have prevented) and they had 2 rooms out of action while fully booked, they didn't show any stress, and even though my room was a down grade it was still far nicer than I was expecting! They clearly care a lot about their customers experiences.

My double bed was 2 singles pushed together and where they met in the middle was quite uncomfortable to lie over

Good location, big room with very comfortable large bed, wet room style bathroom, had upgrade to executive double, quiet, great nights sleep. Function on at hotel but was not noisy or disturbed at all. Room in main building so original old style floors/windows etc which added some personality to the room. Was apprehensive after reading some recent negative reviews but extremely pleased with our room and experience and would certainly return if in the area again.

All good. Few potholes on the driveway which could be filled but that's the only negative we had.

Disappointed that unable to eat in restaurant on arrival as wedding reception on, should have been informed when dates booked. Room had no air-conditioning, room hot. Security of ground floor room overlooking entrance/car park (room 47) didn't feel safe to leave window open for air flow as old style window with no secure locking position.

Easy to find not far from town centre about ½ mile large room which was clean. Staff very friendly and helpful

Only slight niggle was the single bed was not firm enough at the sides so if you moved to the edge the springs would give and dump you out of the bed the price for the room was higher than other hotels I've stayed at in Bury St Edmunds but not in my opinion as good

Reception manager (scottish) was excellent. Really welcoming and very helpful with finding place for our bikes and sorting the noisy A/C unit. Room was clean and comfortable. Very hot on arrival. Noisy A/C unit was dealt with immediately. Drinks available in reception was good. Garden and terrace looked nice.

Thought breakfast looked expensive for what was on offer so went elsewhere. The self close units on bedroom doors were set wrong and some slammed shut - very noisy.

Breakfast is very good, a nice choice of items, cooked or just fruit and cereal. I can recommend the coffee. The bed was comfortable and very large. The bathroom was OK, could do with a little TLC. Be warned the hot water is very hot. Public areas, including the lounge, were always clean and tidy. Given all of the above, the staff are exemplary. helpful, pleasant and smart. They are the best part of the stay at The Priory.

Guests leaving at 7 am and letting the fire doors or their own bedroom doors bang as they close them. The heating was constantly on in the bedroom, but in most hotels, that's nearly always an issue. However, we could open the windows to let air circulate, that was a bonus. Apart from that not much to say we did not like, but please, if you are leaving early in the morning try and close the doors quietly, some of us are on holiday and like the occasional lay in.

Lovely location, beautiful grounds. My room was excellent. Lots of power points roomy, I liked being in the cottage complex style part of the hotel. Parking was excellent. Easy access to town

I had a terrible experience on my second night stay when very very noisy young people kept me up through the night from 3am -5am and I had to call the night porter who did knock on their door but they kept going for an hour afterwards. Totally ruined that night and I was exhausted for a long drive back home the next day. They should have had their bill increased for the disturbance they caused and mine should have been reduced to reflect that. A little disturbance can be expected but not for hours like they went on. So whilst I liked the cottage complex style and would stay again, you don't expect noise issue like I experienced and maybe some signage to keep quiet at night would be an idea?

Great gardens, very quiet and the staff were super friendly. Easy to get into town, even by foot. The bedding and pillows were spotless.

The facilities are not amazing, you can see there used to be a mould problem in the bathroom, with black marks on the ceiling. It's obvious that they have tried to clean it with bleach but it was still visible. The shower takes a long time to warm up which seems like a waste of water. The carpet could have done with a clean. Also, why do hotels do this? If you can fit two people in, why only offer one bath towel? Baffles me but that seems to be the case in most places. A hanger over the door for coats would be good as well.

The room was fine and there was no noise from traffic, even though the hotel is next to a busy main road. There was plenty of car parking available. The staff were very pleasant, although clearly they were short-staffed - not unusual in current circumstances. Wi-fi was ok.

We didn't enjoy the evening meal. There seemed to be only one waitress available, who had several tables to serve, meaning a long wait for our order to be taken and an even longer wait for our food. I didn't have a steak knife and my steak was burnt and chewy although I had ordered medium-rare; the absence of the waitress meant I could not address this problem. Breakfast was much better, however.
