The Westgate

It was a pleasant & comfortable stay & ideal location for where I needed to be with a lot to pack in during my stay. Cooked breakfast was yummy & reasonable.

The breakfast I would have preferred earlier than 8.30 but it couldn't be helped as owner had a busy schedule although I had to skip one breakfast to achieve what I needed to do but it really wasn't a problem. Owner obliged.

The location was excellent, a few minutes walk from the town centre, which was reflected in the price which was approx half that of the town centre locations. Breakfast was very hearty and extremely well cooked. Other options were also catered for.

Only a minor criticism the shower was leaking from the top. Didn’t detract from our stay at all.

Location was perfect right in the centre of Bury. The staff were very helpful with local advice, bike storage etc. where the cooked breakfast was very good. The pub had a very friendly atmosphere where the locals made you feel welcome.

Parking was a little tight (especially for large estate cars). Other than that, The Westgate was an ideal place for us stay (we were a group of 5 cyclists who wanted to visit the local area for a few days).

Breakfast was excellent, sufficient and well cooked. A lovely country pub atmosphere and very helpful staff. The host allowed us to have privacy, no ‘noseyness’

Corridors could be improved. Approach to room is awkward.We find showers difficult so do not use in hotels, could manage a few more shelves in en suite.

Great location, the owner was lovely and no fuss, very chilled. Great breakfast too. And a beautiful dog 🐕 😍. This is a no fuss place, basic decor, no frills but well worth it. Would definitely stay here again, Great value. Thank you The Westgate

Great home cooked breakfast and location for my needs. I shall return!

Guests need to appreciate the parking situation. My sat nav took me along the road so i had to park illegally to ask someone where the hotel was located. I then had to park illegally again to ask the landlord how to get to his rear car park.

Location is very good, free parking, coffee at breakfast was really good, breakfast was good, would of been nice to have the option of brown bread for toast, and scrambled eggs instead of fried.

Can't think of anything to be honest, just to have more options for breakfast would be an improvement.

The place was central to town centre 6 min walk …. Quirky olde worlde pub,full of character. My room was small but for 1 ideal, nice comfortable bed ,and bedding .. shower ample size . Tea coffee hairdryer towels all spotless clean and white .. even above a pub courtyard there was no noise at all after 11 ish …great place would really recommend.. no breakfast offered at the moment due to covid restrictions but plenty 5 min away Costa, cafe Nero ,Starbucks , great host to very friendly .. And the price very very good !

Nothing.. for location cleanliness value for money could not fault it !

We only had an over night stay as ww were attendinga wedding, but Bury St Edmonds is a great place to visit so the location was perfect so close to the centre. Very clean and a comfy bed. Welcoming host who served us a great full english breakfast. (loved Roxy the dog) Definately would return. Great value for money for what we had.

Its a pub, so although a few things were a little outdated it fit the bill for us.

Lovely pub with darts and pool. Nice and quiet when it comes to bed time. Room had all I needed a comfortable bed and a hot shower. Only a stone throw from cathedral and town centre.

For the price nothing to complain about
